Here's Vergeben backpedaling again. For some reason, people still believe him:

1543100985287.png

For those who don't know, his most infamous prediction is that Minecraft Steve would be in the game, a claim so ludicrous that depictions of Vergeben made in mockery often represent him as a Minecraft character.

He began by claiming that Steve was a roster character at launch. Then he changed it to DLC character. Then he was an assist trophy. Now he's downgraded it to being a boss which might not even be Steve but just something which represents Minecraft. He's already been proven wrong since the boss listing has been leaked due to Ultimate's early release in Mexico, with a Minecraft based boss nowhere to be seen.

And, once again, nobody suspects that he's blowing hot air.
Melee is far from dead though, and the reason one would stick with PM/melee is pretty obvious. They have advanced tech the other games just don't.

Call me autistic all you want, but I can play melee every single of my life. Yet brawl/tr4sh bore me to tears with the slow floaty gameplay and lack of movement options.
Melee is dying. It had an overwhelmingly negative reaction at EVO which spurred the TO to drop it and Smash 4 in favor for Ultimate, and many other major tournaments are following suit lest there be three Smash games at every tourney once Ultimate is released. In addition, many of the big names in Melee (read: the same five people who are always in grand finals) are announcing either their retirement from Melee or how the game has gotten stale for them. Melee is also unapproachable to many people, and its number of entrants has been dropping off for years, with the only numbers it can boast is simply viewership. Even then, Melee is unappealing to TOs because the people who watch or play Melee don't watch or play anything else (including other Smash games, which you yourself have just demonstrated) and are known for causing a ruckus, being extremely loud when Melee is on stage and booing games that aren't Melee. That's completely ignoring that the TOs also need to find and carry around CRTVs as well. As of right now, Melee is only really present in specialty streams which focus on Smash specifically.

Melee is a solved game with veteran players who have almost two decade's worth of experience and infamously complicated and hand-destroying button inputs which makes it unappealing for new players to try to jump in, and is known for never having any upsets (that is, a relatively unknown player taking a major tournament) when it's just the same players it always is winning a tournament. There's simply no new players coming in other than the delusional people who are lucky to even make it on stream over the usual players who take tournaments.

Saying a game which is a nuisance to TOs, isn't entertaining to an outsider, incurs the anger of viewers for games which follow its time slot, is hemorrhaging players, and which discourages newer players to come in to replace the ones who have left isn't dying is denialism. You're free to play the game how you want it, nobody is going to stop you. But you can't tell people it's a game that isn't withering away with an overwhelmingly negative reception from everyone outside of those who obsess over it.

Can I get a source on the boss listing being leaked? I saw the leaks of all the cutscenes, but not this, and you got me curious.

You'd think people would stop believing him after Pirahna Plant's announcement but here we are. Hell, I don't believe him for the simple fact that he thinks Steve of all characters will even be playable.

You can find pictures of the bosses, but it's:

Beast Ganon (OoT)
Crazy Hand
Darz
Dracula
Galeem
Galeem and Darz fused
Galleom
Giga Bowser
Marx
Master Hand
Rathalos

Another thing which confirms Vergeben wrong, by the way, is an accidental DLC leak:

There's a placeholder in the music files explicitly for a Monster Hunter victory screen theme, confirming that the first DLC will be the Monster Hunter character (similar to the character of the same name in Marvel versus Capcom).

You don't have to know specifically who the DLC character is, all you really need to know is that it contradicts what Vergeben has been saying, yet he and his followers still act as insufferably as possible that Vergeben's predictions are true without a lick of evidence and proof to the contrary.

I don't know if all the infomation about the events involved around the leak is in the this thread but I think this video gives a good summary of what happened
I hope people will take leaks with a grain of salt for now on but I doubt it.

No one cares about what game you like the most you can like a game just don't act like its way of life and act autistic when someone has a different opinion on it.

Don't worry, they won't. Nobody ever learns.

It could also point to a cut character, because I doubt that after Smash 4's accidental Ryu leak that they're more careful with the DLC files. Either way Vergeben is gay.

I sort of agree that I don't like how people are leaking info about the game two weeks early, but these people don't seem to be aware that you can just, you know, not look at the leaks.

There's also some salt towards Square-Enix because Cloud isn't in World of Light (probably), meaning people would have to unlock him in a different way than anyone else (that's most likely still easy, considering the conditions have been streamlined in general).

I wouldn't have known how easy it was to pirate Switch games if these guys weren't complaining about it so much, so thanks.

The guy in the middle is another example of Melee players doing everything they can do to defend the game before Ultimate is even out. What "ShionSinX" is saying here is just explaining pretty much all you really need to know: having a buffer is unquestionably superior than not having a buffer. But the guy in the middle tries to spin it as a negative thing using moon logic about doing an "unrelated response," which is complete nonsense since it'll only do what you pressed, and you can tell this person never played any other game besides Melee because "holding up to do uptilts" does not buffer a jump like he mentions--you only jump using an unbuffered, single up input. This was explained in the thread this was posted in, as the first user mentions.

Expect to see more of this when the game is release. Melee players will do anything to prove their game is still relevant, including just outright lying like the user below is doing.

I still enjoy Melee (mainly for nostalgia reasons), but these guys seriously need to move on at this point.
Especially since because they had to remove all items and only make 5 fighters and stages viable for tournament play, their version of Melee is the most barebones, tedius, and stagnating kind imaginable; a kind that also exploits a physics glitch.
Explain this: if wavedashing was intentionally added, why is it both never mentioned in any official sources (websites, strategy guides, etc.) and "removed" from every Smash game made since then?
Seriously, how the hell does anyone actually think Melee was designed with tourney players in mind.

This kind of autism is exactly why this thread is up. You'd imagine people'd get bored of nearly 2 decades of Melee.

Actually yeah that is why I made it in the first place. I made the community think I would get more posters talking about shit like that one guy that tried to run other players over. But then the trollshielding smash fans came in who are just speds laughing at even bigger speds who think Grinch is gonna be in the game. That said its still fun to watch the said so I guess it all equals out.
