Honestly, I’d rather have a generic plant enemy with a fun, unique moveset than Generic JRPG Swordsman #2000.

Seriously though, I think the hardest part of Sakurai’s job isn’t actually developing the game, but rather, it’s having to deal with these idiots criticising his every decision and accusing anyone who calls them ungrateful of being white knights.

The plant was a fun idea. Even if he included something like Monty Mole, Spike, Wart, A Shy Guy, Birdo, a plethora of Generic baddies in Mario, people would REEEEEEEEEEEE more.

Piranha Plant represents what Smash should have been about ever since the N64 game: a fun, creative and amusing game.

Hell, if Mouser was in it, I'd be grateful as hell.

Oh.. more reee from Gamefaqs.

The worst part about all the Fire Emblem characters imo is that they're going to have to run through all the sword man protagonists before they get to any of the axe/lance users who might actually have interesting movesets that deviate from the formula. I'm not big on FE though, have there been any notable/community favorite characters from that series who weren't sword users?

I hope Bubsy makes it to Smash before Geno and Banjo.

Close enough.

Well, Robin doesn't use a sword.

*coughs nervously*

With FE, I seen some people like the mage, archer and axe users. Then again, Weebs love their swords, so I guess swords are gonna make the weebs flock to the game more.

I feel like it's more of the fact that all of the main characters of the FE games are sword users, and Sakurai+Co. want to include the frontman of each game.

Notable characters I've heard of afaik are:

  • Hector: One of the main protagonists of FE7 who is an axe user and will always use an axe.
  • Celica: One of the two leads of FE:Gaiden/Echoes who uses magic too though can use a sword depending, but is more known for her magic.
  • Ephraim: The Lord of FE8 who uses a lance and is one of the more highly requested FE characters.
  • Anna: A recurring character in the fire emblem series who is known for either using a bow and arrow due to fire emblem warriors or an axe because of Fire Emblem Heroes.

Let's be honest here; the only Fire Emblem character anyone should care about is Ike.

There's a few I can think of.

Tiki, Anna, Walhart, Tharja, Camilla, Azura, etc.

Note that Sakurai specifically said the characters were selected BY NINTENDO and not him. This already started some fearmongering conspiracy theories that the DLC will all be characters made to promote new Nintendo games, which makes them "unworthy" somehow.

In other words, we'll probably get the next fire emblem protagonist as DLC and people will still act surprised and salty.

A FE protagonist, Sephiroth and the Dragon Quest 11 protagonist for maximum anime sword rage and Japanese sales. I’d actually like DQ representation though just for the music.

I don't give a shit about any of these leaks unless they put in mother fucking TRAVIS TOUCHDOWNView attachment 580541
Hey, I'm still hoping

"By Nintendo" makes me hesitate to buy the season pass. Which I should never buy anyway, but honestly prior to this I'd never thought I would even consider not buying an extra Smash character. I would be super pissed if it was Steve, Monster Hunter, random JRPG character I've never heard of and two shills and I had paid for it before knowing.

My guess is that Sakurai and the Smash Bros team doesn't care that much about who the characters are in the first place. Yeah they made a poll for the community to see which characters the community wanted but I think they are way more interrested in the gameplay of the characters and how it could become an original fighter than how well known a character is.

Bayonetta was put in the game because they found a way to make her into a cool fighter with a gimmick on her own. Ridley wasn't put as a DLC in the previous game because the team didn't find a way to make him into a fighter... but managed to find a way to do so for Smash Ultimate. For the same reason Piranha Plant is a new fighter in the game not because it's a popular community pick but because they found a fun gameplay to have with this character. That's all there is I think...

Maybe Isaac, Geno, Waluigi Shantae and all of the other characters just didn't spark anything creative to be had with them. Or the gameplay ideas they had with them weren't that good. Smash Bros is meant to be a fighting game not a "my waifu is in it omg" game. So I much prefer them to put actual cool and fun fighters to play with in the game than stupid characters with no gameplay depth just to pander to some crazy fans on the internet.

But no... must be because Sakurai is a bad man who don't know anything about the community and gaming...
If you ever feel like your shitty animu faggot was fucked over by sakurai and the smash team you gotta remember
Shin megami tensei hasnt even received a trophy in smash even though the series started on the nes

This exact thing happened in Marvel versus Capcom 3 and it was fine. When you’re out-speding the FGC, that’s rough.

TBF, this same thing also applies to the cut characters in MvC Infinite, and we all know how well THAT worked out.
