That, and the tendency to read way too much into assist trophies and years-old Sakurai interviews that he more than likely forgot that he even did. Smash roster speculators tend to have a conspiracy theorist mindset in regards to who might get in. There's Issac fanboys on /v/ who seriously believe that he was going to be revealed FOR SURE but they delayed it because of the Hokkaido earthquake (since apparently he has an attack in Golden Sun involving earthquakes). Apparently this makes more sense than the idea that he wasn't getting in in the first place because Golden Sun is a dead series whose last game predates the fucking DS.

Then there are people who make asspulls such as "SHANTAE WILL BE IN SMASH BECAUSE SK IS A TROPHY!" type theories.

This didn't stop when a Gunvolt Spin off game was announced and then Smash was annouced on a direct. Some people in an amino were salty beyond hell that Ridley was in and not a niche character from an even less known Indie Game. It's pretty much going "WELL DIS GAME IS COMING! MAYBE BE IN SMASH!" type mindsets.

Just like that guy on Gamefaqs whocrows for Project x Zone characters to be in Smash bros.

People really want some of the most banal or obscure characters in Smash. Sakurai and a dev can say no. These people do NOT care if their character plays bad. They just want to see them in action. A VIP pass moreso.

AC, one of Nintendo's more popular IPs these days with plenty of fans clamouring for a Switch release, is not deserving of 2 reps. Makes sense.

Also correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Mortal Kombat franchise fucking BOMB in Japan? That would mean there's zero chance to get Scorpion in Smash...

Mortal Kombat wasn't popular in Japan due to the excessive violence. It had a few releases in the 90's, but things were tonned down. Blood was green and any deaths were done in black and white. MK 9 and X were banned in Japan.

Japan does have SOME MK fans, but they are pretty niche and small. Japan isn't a censor free country as weebs think it is.

Eh, I actually like GameXplain's content for the most part. While they do post lazy re-uploads of game trailers for quick and easy money, they are a pretty good source of Nintendo-related news and their in-depth analysis videos tend to be informative and interesting. And they've been one of the few big-name channels (at least in this era; Smash 4 was an entirely different story) that have been mostly unaffected by re.tarded "leaks" circulating around the Web like "OMG Sakurai's hand gestures hinting at Crash Bandicoot being playable in Smash?!!?!!?!!" It's just too bad Smash speculation is inherently autistic to the point of being contagious, and anyone and everyone who delves in it gets infected at some point. And while I'd rather not shoot the messenger (I did say ResetEra was responsible for that stupid "theory"), I wouldn't give any attention to this non-news, either.

Also, you're assuming all the dumb clickbait on YouTube will end after December 7. Dude, even if Sakurai came out and said there would be no DLC at all (which is unlikely given this day and age as well as the Ultimate era likely lasting much longer than the 4 era did, but hypotheticals gonna be hypotheticals), the "Character X leaked" videos will still continue even well after the base game's release. The Smash 'tism just never ends. and we're all along for the ride.

As of a few months ago the switch has been cracked open hard enough for people to write their own sysmodules, and currently one of the most popular ones is one that does man-in-the-middle file substitution on files in switch bundles. Assuming smash ultimate is running an ancestor of the Smash 4 codebase I’d assume that the modding scene is going to start going places fast after release. Expect a torrent of authentic looking ‘leak’ videos at the end of the year.

E: actually hoping they do have DLC support because that’ll allow modders to cleanly add characters instead of replacing them.

Or at least someone needs to look into “LaxChris” given he’s responsible for seven of those.

There’s a handful of autistic bowsette in smash videos floating around too.. but then there’s this one, which gets my stamp of approval.
