The main difference between Smashies and joystick jigglers seems to be that more than ten people play Smash, and Street Fighter and Guiltygear actually have canon trannies playable in the games because their devs love 'em. There used to be more larger tournaments called Majors, if you went to these and placed well enough, at the end of the year, if you had enough points you'd get to compete in Capcom Cup which is invite only, based on your placement at the major tournaments. Capcom is HQ'd in San Francisco and other Japanese companies have their HQ in California and have been giving their NA branch more decision making authority. So throw in the idea of money, sponsorships, and other corporate fuckery and you get tournaments that get forced to accept all the degeneracy.

Naw, it does, even if you don't like the spastic neutral it has it definitely does. 'Meaty' just describes hitting something late during your active frames to generate greater frame advantage, which you can do in those games the same as you would in any other. There are also frametraps, though Smash doesn't have counter hits (no, parries aren't 'counters', Smashers), so the actual payoff isn't the same kind you see in other games (i.e. launchers, splats, screws, bounces, etc).
