Can't Meleefags go one day or tourney without acting like retarded children with their tantrums? Is there something with Melee that just poisons the brain compared to Ultimate/SSB4 or even Brawl?
Most Pokémon have gender (in the sense of "sex, except we don't like using the s-word around children"), and the ones that don't are from species that are entirely genderless (mostly representing inanimate objects, like Magnemite, and also most legendaries are genderless, and so is Ditto); a large number of gendered Pokémon species even have visible gender differences in their ordinary forms, but the evolutionary line that includes Greninja is not one of them (the video also mentioned how Pikachu's gender differences could be used to tell that a couple cosmetic forms are female, while most are male: Look at the end of the tail).
Before I watched the video, I figured that because Greninja, like all starters except Pikachu and Eevee, is from a 7:1 male species (but not one with any visible gender differences in their ordinary forms), if one had to specify a gender for Greninja in Smash, the best choice would be male; the video pointed out that in Smash, Greninja can turn into Ash-Greninja, which in the Pokémon games, only the special Greninja from the Sun & Moon demo (who is male, has the exclusive Battle Bond ability, and cannot breed) can do, following the example of Ash's Greninja in the XY anime.
That's a good reason to conclude that the Greninja in Smash is male, and even to speculate that he's Ash's Greninja.
True for far too many titles anymore, anything multiplayer that isn't explicitly geared against player competition will end up having a 'competitive' mentality infect it and drag casual down with it. Even TF2 which released in 2007 has had this shit happen to it just because Valve lets the community push them around.

While the site was down, Leffen lost to hurgrybox at Ludwig smash Tournament and decided to throw a bitchfit afterwards and threatened to leave smash in 2023 for Strive and SF6 if he doesn't get his way.
He going to DSP/LTG himself. Street Fighter is one of the biggest and oldest FTG series. They already know how much of a bitch he is from the smash community. What he going to do is started shit with one of the top players then shit himself afterwards.

I genuinely don’t get how adults can obsess over a kid’s video game for so long. I can get the whole “play competitive” for the chance of winning prizes, I guess (or for “fame”… shudder).
But no, I don’t get it. I always get tediously bored with a video game after a while. My kids stopped playing Smash Bros. once a new game replaced it. It’s so weird to me that there’s enough of a “community” exists for an entire thread about it. What is wrong with these people?

They genuinely enjoy playing the game that much. That's just it. The problem is that this collective enjoyment doesn't stop the autism from setting in.

The Smash Bros. series is a favorite of mine, but if you look at people like SonicFox and Low Tier God, there’s just something about fighting games that manages to make people turn into turbo-cringeworthy individuals that let the fighting game persona that was created on the Internet for terminally online people to make it go way too far.

If you ask me, the fact that these people even committed so much of their lives into a video game tells me it's not really the fighting games that create these people, but rather the mental illness that already exists inside them. It's one thing if it's a hobby or a side thing but these fighting game competitors and speedrunners have that same genre of autism that makes them dedicate their lives into playing video games obsessively and broadcasting their skills to the internet.
I mean if it pays and entertains people then good on them, but damn does it take certain brand of person to do that.
Harassment in the community and addressing Technicals
This is a message from both GimR and Aposl, co-founders of VGBootCamp. To be totally honest, we never thought we would find ourselves writing a statement to address this, but once again loose accusations have tarnished our name and have encouraged such constant harassment that we unfortunately feel the need to put out a response clearing the air.
It seems that even when accusations are made by a notorious pot-stirrer, we are guilty until proven innocent, even without credible evidence and sometimes without any at all. Even when accusations are made based on total assumptions (but are stated as fact), answers are demanded of us immediately.
Each time we have tried to step up and give those answers - and when we do, we are admittedly met with gratitude, which makes it seem as if “you have nothing to hide, it shouldn’t be a big deal to address this.” But what most folks don’t realize is that these attacks take a huge toll on us, they steal our time and resources, and they cause discourse in this community to become overwhelmingly toxic. We do not wish to address baseless rumors anymore, or accusations based on guesswork. We want to be able to focus on the work of building up the Smash community, not having to continually backtrack and rebuild because others decide to tear it down without evidence.
We hope our track record has shown that we always welcome community input - however, the line between constructive feedback and harassment of our team should not be crossed. Going forward, we want to establish a zero-tolerance policy regarding threats and harassment of our team. We want to continue to work alongside the community to foster a respectful and collaborative environment, but we cannot afford to feed into baseless rumors any longer.
Addressing the accusations
First and foremost, we want to emphasize that we never unbanned Nairo from our events, even after he was removed from the Global Ban Database (GBD). If we ever re-evaluate the ban, we will make an official announcement about it. This has been our stance for the last 2.5 years. Additionally, Nairo is still banned from Twitch. Again, the GBD (Before it was defunct) was only one of the tools we used in our decision making, the final decision of who is and who is not banned at VGBC events has always been up to us alone. We also know other TOs who operate the same way, where the GBD is one component to help in decision-making, but not followed blindly.
Additionally, in most cases, we officially announce approved re-streamers of VGBC events - save for those who do not contact us in time. That said, we want to also mention we have exclusivity with Twitch, so all approved re-streamers must do so on Twitch. So in short, we have not given Nairo permission to re-stream VGBC events.
When Technicals started recording us at Double Down he was already trespassing. In fact, he had already been banned, and snuck back into the event with a disguise on. At that time, our priority was simply to engage with him as little as possible, and to remove him from the premises. We knew his claims and accusations were baseless, and giving him any attention would only validate his behavior. Unfortunately, he showed this to be true, as he continued to escalate the harassment after the event, based on the same false assumptions. We eventually decided to block Technicals on multiple accounts because he quote tweeted GimR and claimed that we condone pedophilia. This of course caused even more harassment from his followers.
It is very frustrating how much traction all of this has received, especially since it seems so obviously in bad faith. While we are disappointed that we have to address this in response to so much direct harassment, as well as defamatory and slanderous claims - we hope that this statement not only helps in setting the record straight, but also reminds the community to please be careful when making assumptions, and to never jump to immediate and/or constant harassment We are better than that.
TL;DR: Nairo can't restream our events but we're also not gonna punish him for doing so. He was also banned but not really banned, fuck Technicals.
Nintendo suddenly withdrew many of their clauses and contracts with seemingly 0 heads up
Panda Cup and its parent company was seemingly poaching and manuvering to get events on their circuit instead of Smash World Tour, even threatening Beyond the Summit
Apparently they also got some form of preferential treatment compared to other orgs, atleast it appears so, either way, its a total shitshow and people who were normal and anti nonce are celebrating lmao Medium Article (Archive)
Video Game Bootcamp is also putting all of its events on ice

It's so crazy how serious this Super Smash Bros shit is. I don't think EVO ever had such a high tier of gayops going on that had an effect as big as this, cancelling a tournament worth $350k.
That being said, Alan is a giant cunt and Panda deserves to burn for this.

Unfortunately after continuous conversations with Smash World Tour, and after giving the same deep consideration we apply to any potential partner, we were unable to come to an agreement with SWT for a full circuit in 2023. Nintendo did not request any changes to or cancellation of remaining events in 2022, including the 2022 Championship event, considering the negative impact on the players who were already planning to participate.
Nintendo never actually sent a C&D to SWT, but SWT understood their letter as a C&D.
Counter-response from SWT:
We did not expect to have to address this, but Nintendo’s response via Kotaku has been brought to our attention:
“Unfortunately after continuous conversations with Smash World Tour, and after giving the same deep consideration we apply to any potential partner, we were unable to come to an agreement with SWT for a full circuit in 2023. Nintendo did not request any changes to or cancellation of remaining events in 2022, including the 2022 Championship event, considering the negative impact on the players who were already planning to participate.”
We are unsure why they are taking this angle, especially in light of the greater statement and all that it contains.
“As a last ditch effort, we asked if we could continue running the Championships and the Tour next year without a license, and shift our focus to working with them in 2024. We alluded to how the last year functioned in that capacity, with a mutual understanding that we would not get shut down and focus on the future. We were told directly that those times were now over. This was the final nail in the coffin given our very particular relationship with Nintendo. This is when we realized it truly was all being shut down for real. We asked if they understood the waves that would be made if we were forced to cancel, and Nintendo communicated that they were indeed aware.”
To be clear, we asked Nintendo multiple times if they had considered the implications of canceling the Championships as well as next year’s Tour. They affirmed that they had considered all variables.
We received this statement in writing from Nintendo shortly after our call:
“It is Nintendo’s expectation that an approved license be secured in order to operate any commercial activity featuring Nintendo IP. It is also expected to secure such a license well in advance of any public announcement. After further review, we’ve found that the Smash World Tour has not met these expectations around health & safety guidelines and has not adhered to our internal partner guidelines. Nintendo will not be able to grant a license for the Smash World Tour Championship 2022 or any Smash World Tour activity in 2023.”
To be clear, we did not even submit an application for 2023 yet, the license application was for the 2022 Championships (submitted in April). Nintendo including all 2023 activity was an addition we were not even expecting. In our call that accompanied the statement, we asked multiple times if we would be able to continue to operate without a license as we had in years past with the same “unofficial” understanding with Nintendo. We were told point blank that those “times are over.” They followed up the call with their statement in writing, again confirming both the 2022 Championships and all 2023 activity were in the exact same boat.
By 'in writing', they must mean by email or fax, as mail wouldn't be able to deliver that quickly. But what is most interesting to me is this statement: 'It is also expected to secure such a license well in advance of any public announcement.' Looking at the original Medium article, we can see how SWT decided to announce their not-yet-licensed event. They applied for a license in January 2022. Nintendo reached out in March 2022, a few days before SWT 2022 was announced. SWT says they worked out specifications with Nintendo for this application, which probably had some manner of how they would announce and advertise their event. Now this is where things become confusing:
Nintendo’s response to our application came slowly, which did not surprise us. They reached out in March, a few days before our announcement — and we went back and forth on the feasibility of the scope, especially since our Tour was global and Nintendo of America would have to coordinate with other Nintendo teams. We kept Nintendo in the loop of our announcement plans, but we understandably ran out of time for the formal license. Still, we relied on our other conversations with Nintendo and pressed forward with the 2022 Tour.
Apparently SWT made some kind of announcement only days after hearing back from Nintendo. What kind of announcement was that? And how did SWT keep Nintendo in the loop of their announcement plans when their announcement was only a few days after Nintendo's supposedly first response to their application? Did the application specify the announcement plan? Did Nintendo make any suggestions about this announcement in the March response? In the next paragrah, things become more clear:
This caused our application to go into limbo, and that a “decision could not be made at this time,” since we did not have the full scope of our proposal sorted with Nintendo in advance. Again, we knew timelines were going to be difficult and that we were building something very long-term. We discussed other approaches and ideas, and eventually Nintendo recommended at this stage to apply for a single event license for our December championships, which would also help get the ball rolling to start working on 2023, with a much longer lead time.
Reading between the lines here, it becomes clear that SWT fucked up by announcing their events without having come to an agreement with Nintendo first, and they were missing a key 'full scope' that probably should have been in their original application. So, Nintendo shelves the agreement as they don't want to deal with these incompetent morons who shoot first and negotiate later, and tell them to get a single event license.
All the other bullshit about Panda Cup is noise and doesn't matter for the subject at hand. What matters is that SWT works with Nintendo to draft a completely new application to get a one-time event license approved for their tournament in December, and that gets submitted in April. At the same time, Nintendo begins issuing various one-time event licenses to various other tournaments. SWT complains that this is 'rules for thee, but not for me', but that doesn't make sense. One, SWT was applying for a multi-event contract with Nintendo when they announced SWT 2022. These other events announced their events and then got issued a single-event license, which is exactly what Nintendo was telling SWT to do at this time. In addition, we don't really know whether these event licenses were applied for before or after their announcements.
Now things become confusing again:
Nintendo was very slow to respond to our many bumps, even though they were aware that we submitted in early April with the intention of announcing the event in July, giving more than enough time for a decision or a discussion on next steps using the timeframes they provided to us. We continued to push back the announcement for the Championships in the hopes that following Nintendo’s directives would help our relationship in planning for 2023.
But SWT already announced their events back in March, right? So why this holding back of announcing the championship event? Hasn't it already been announced? Maybe, maybe not. I have no idea. Maybe the announcement in March was for a circuit series and the announcement here is for the championship, but I doubt that really matters because SWT already fucked this up back in March. I would guess that SWT was just trying to do shit too early. It sounds like Nintendo was dealing with other events that were happening sooner and pushing back SWT's application because it was at the end of the year. They may have also ended up on a shit list for their previous 'announcments' and whatever shit that stirred. Now when Nintendo deals the 'death blow' in November, we have one interesting thing. Nintendo denies all licenses and supposedly doesn't give specifics as to why (but in their own statement they do cite two violated non-public protocols), but they never do actually clarify about the tournament in question:
As a last ditch effort, we asked if we could continue running the Championships and the Tour next year without a license, and shift our focus to working with them in 2024. We alluded to how the last year functioned in that capacity, with a mutual understanding that we would not get shut down and focus on the future. We were told directly that those times were now over. This was the final nail in the coffin given our very particular relationship with Nintendo. This is when we realized it truly was all being shut down for real. We asked if they understood the waves that would be made if we were forced to cancel, and Nintendo communicated that they were indeed aware.
Notice they didn't ask about the tournament this year? They also seemed to imply they threatened Nintendo with 'waves'. Who the fuck is on their legal team? The less events there are for this poisonous, autistic community, the better, so I am pretty happy with Nintendo all-things-considered.
Panda has some kind of agreement with Nintendo. According to Panda it's exclusive, but clearly in practice and according to Nintendo itself, it's not. Now Panda (and all tournaments licensed by Nintendo) agree to not use any modified versions of the games at their tournaments. But Panda allows TOs to use any memory card for the games, and the memory cards contain a mod known as UCF that autistic Melee players need to have for some reason. This is known as stealth UCF. The problem for Panda is that they can't just throw up their hands and say it's a TOs fault for having a modded game. They are directly responsible for ensuring that there are no modded games, and by explicitly stating that TOs can use any memory card in their official, Nintendo-sanctioned ruleset, they are explicitly sanctioning mods through that memory card exploit. Therefore, Panda is committing fraud which is a federal crime.
EDIT: Something else I just thought of, which really should be an elephant in the room, is calling the whole thing the Smash World Tournament. That's pretty retarded because it sounds pretty official, and you can't deny that that name has intrinsic value to Nintendo, especially when you compare it to their competitor, Panda Cup, which sounds fucking retarded.
One of the biggest Smash tournaments in the world, the Smash World Tour Championships, with over 6'400 live events worldwide and more than 325'000 in-person entrants, has received a notice from Nintendo two weeks before the event to cease operations. The Smash World Tour (SWT) was scheduled to...
