Triple post, but now that the game's out, I wanna give my thoughts after the first world:
The forest is way more tolerable compared to Forever, especially without the godforsaken big ass "Chasey Saws" that make every single chunk with them blind. The wall running isn't really needed yet; you can cover insane amounts of distance with the dash. Wasn't too hard to figure it out. If Meat Boy's back is against the wall, he's going to wall run.
The boss was a complete joke, and spoiler alert, all of them are basically Little Horn. Memorize the attack patterns, and it's a piece of cake. Though I say from footage that the final boss is an improvement, despite replicating what everyone says is the worst part of the original, it's a half-decent test for your reflexes. Compared to Forever, where you are NOT beating that bastard on your first try, even if you used a guide.
Tone-wise; it's going in the right direction, because Jesus Christ, I felt that they literally hired Nintendo to do the art for Forever. 3D is dirty, industrial, and some of Edmund's humor is replicated here. Also, despite him saying he had no idea this game existed, evidence points to the contrary:
1. Both this game and Mewgenics have a hellish place called "The Core".
2. Both games have a boss encounter where cultists revive a boss from a previous Edmund game.
3. A large amount of Meat Boy stuff in Mewgenics.
4. Literally the same band for both games, but I heard Danny is involved. Still kicks ass, but it's all a little samey.
