Amethyst got limb enhancers to fit in the height requirement at the ball, you sped, nothing else. Because she was PD's "court". They're not sending her to fight a war or anything so she doesn't need fighting equipment. For a show where everyone goes over it with a fine tooth comb they sure do miss a lot of obvious shit.

Honestly, just watch the show and enjoy it. And if you don't like it, find some other show that tickles your fancy. Hating it like it's the Antichrist immediately makes you a sperg.

Eh, this is a criticism I can kinda get just because it’s part of a bigger criticism that SU doesn’t seem to get how people work and that misunderstanding has lead to the show’s world to be wholly milquetoast and lifeless. Hell, half the tine it seems like SU’s humans don’t even know that Gems were even a thing. Like it or not, religion is a huge part of human civilization and history (to the point that neuroscientists theorize that there’s a physical area in the brain that allows religion to be possible called the God Spot - or G Spot) and to claim that these massive and powerful extraterrestrial beings have occupied the same planet for almost the entirety of human development and had absolutely no impact on humans or their culture/mythology is retarded to say the least.

Of course this user’s complaints seem to end at Connie having “no identity” and that this would be rectified by changing her current personality to include more “Have I mentioned that I’m Indian/Hindu today?” moments, so I doubt their understanding of people is much better.

EDIT: Another flaw about the “no religion” is that it creates something of a plot hole regarding that whole Lars and Renaldo bullshit, who tried to be ghost hunters at one point. How can the concept of a ghost, let alone a ghost hunter, exist if humans never conceptualized ideas like a soul or an after life - two major parts in the foundation of every religion?

I found a TERF with the best criticism of Steven Universe I've ever read: Steven Universe is bad because it pushes the troon conspiracy because the gems don't have periods:

The limb enhancer thing is pretty weird actually, just not for the reason these spergs are screaming about. Like, if they’re shape-shifting space lesbians, why can’t she just stretch her limbs out to be taller? This show really doesn’t make any sense, but it’s certainly nothing to write literal essays about.

It's explained that if she stretches herself to be taller than she naturally is, it puts too much of a strain on her and she could hurt herself.

It's also said that the younger generations of gems can't shape-shift because their planet was low on resources when they were made, so that's why they're given technological enhancements.

Yeah, there’s always been an unspoken rule to SU’s shapesifting that it takes more energy for a Gem to shapeshift into something that is greater than their mass, though the sizes are so inconsistent on SU that I don’t blame viewers for forgetting that.

Doesn’t help that SU also has a habit of either making up new powers on the fly or suddenly use a preexisting power in a manner that was never established as being possible. For instance it was established for the longest time a Gem’s color scheme couldn’t change when shaeshifting, only for the Pink Diamond reveal to happen where suddenly Pearl can mimic Rose perfectly - colors and all - and Pink can pull a new color for a skin tone right out of her ass.

I always figured that PD's hair is light enough to pass for Rose's skintone and Amethyst has inverted her color scheme at least once before. Pearl's coloration is total bullshit though, it's bright fucking pink for all of one episode and "coral pink" or what many would consider orange for the rest, and God knows they'll pull some bullshit like "white contains all colors so it doesn't matter". Meanwhile it's never been explained exactly how Rose shifted her gem, covered her irises, and changed her skin (they don't even say "oh yeah she inverted her color scheme") but they're definitely going to boil it down to "durr hurr diamond power".

I don’t recall Amethyst ever inverting her color palette, unless you’re referring to the cat. In which case I wouldn’t consider that a palette swap since when she transforms into something with hair it’s always light, and since a cat is technically covered in hair it only makes sense that form would be too - if you shaved her in that form you’d probably see her dark skin underneath.

And I’m not sure I’d buy that PD just inverted her hair and skin since it’s not a matter of hue so much that one glance tells you that they’re two completely different colors. There’s also several dark shades of pink in PD’s design that past examples of Gem shapeshifting should dictate would make up some of the layers of her dress, but are no where to be found on Rose’s design.

And yeah it’s frustrating how many times Steven’s pulled a new power out of his ass, or the number of disrepencies get hand-waved as a “diamond powers.” It feels like the writers often make the rookie mistake where they’ve already written everything up in their head so they already know all these details when writing scenes, but then forget the audience can’t read their minds so there’s all these moments that feel contradictory or confusing from the perspective of a viewer.

Well here's one instance of Amethyst's palette swap while shapeshifted

And I know there's one more where she's shapeshifted but I don't give enough of a fuck to find it.

That's how you can tell they are used to writing fanfic.

Steven Universe: *has an episode about a broken family being shown the error of their ways and working towards fixing their relationships with each other*

SU Critical: BUT WHAT ABOUT THE FASCISM?!

I hope this means the series is over so this shit can end. Given the fandom's shitty reputation, it's not likely that there's going to be another show anytime soon that these freaks can latch onto so obsessively.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA they're already signed for a sixth season, keep dreaming.

I still think this show sadly sucks (and worse off, it didn't have to!), but dear God... That was a better way to end it than it has any right to be ended. Too bad they still want to make a movie and new episodes, afterward. Why keep going with this when what we got here was more than enough closure worth a damn is anyone's guess, IMHO...
