If liberty is your goal, then yes it's not very libertarian to side with the rioters. If these assholes actually got what they wanted, you would be living under a system far more authoritarian than whatever you have now.

The situation feels very similar to when christians are asked to support groups that would inevitably destroy them if they could.

This is why Libertarianism is such a vacuous philosophy. You eventually have to supplement it with something else. This is why they inevitably become NeoCons, Alt Right, or Bleeding Heart SJWs. "Liberty" is not a system of thought nor a solution to everything. It has to be tempered with some other ethos. Libertarianism is like atheism in that regard in that it tends to be an overwhelmingly negative philosophy that inevitably gets attached to something more philosophically meatier.

Is there some rule that says satire has to be a 100% accurate reflection of the thing being satirized? Because I don't remember there being such a rule.
Nor did I know that a piece of satire is considered an argument. I find it amusing that people use the word "strawman" the way they use the term "ad hominem".

Ya'll are equating libertarianism with anarchism. Libertarianism is already essentially a compromise between anarcho-capitalism and conservatism. Or more accurately that's right wing libertarianism, the most common modern form of libertarianism. Left wing libertarianism is a compromise between anarcho-capitalism and American liberalism. And centrist libertarianism is a compromise between anarcho-capitalism and boomers who just want to grill. So libertarianism by its nature is already "liberty supplemented with something philosophically meatier."

But no libertarian is completely anti-law enforcement or believes that randos have the right to do absolutely anything without limits. If they do, then they're not libertarians. They're confused anarcho-capitalists.

As far as presidents of my lifetime, Dubya is probably the one that fully earned the venom. While 9/11 was serious shit that deserved a serious response... not sure the Patriot Act or invading fucking Iraq (a regime which tended to repress radicals) was the proper way forward. Best case scenario: he's Jimmy Carter, a well meaning President who pissed the bed. Worst case scenario: he's a dolt figurehead elected on name recognition so Cheney could unlock the gold war profiteer badge.

As I've said, there's plenty of reasons to criticize him. That's not the point. Before there was TDS - Trump Derangement Syndrome - there was BDS: Bush Derangment Syndrome. It usually stepped beyond policy, and typically got into conspiracy theory territory. The meer existience of Bush was enough to send these people over the edge to the point where there were media productions fantasizing about assasinating him. So many Hitler comparisons, too. In fact, many of the same charges hurled at the Dyslexic Man are now hurled at the Orange Man. The fact that many Democrats pretend to love George W. Bush now is more of a testimony to how much more they hate Trump.

What makes Styx, Aiden, et al so lolworthy in this regard is just how outdated it is, like they're still stuck in the 2000s.

Well sure... I guess... there were eventually Hitler comparisons in his 2nd term... but 9/11 happen in his first year.... I mean long before there was this Bush backlash there was CDS - Clinton Derangement Syndrome. It was steeped well beyond policy and was mainly media productions enthralled with cum stains on a dress. Clinton was attacked by unhinged looneys just like Trump and/or Bush. That's the way it's worked since the GOP wanted to sink Slick Willy over a blowjob.

All that said, Bush easily and clearly defeated Kerry in both popular and electoral. So... I'm not too worried about Trump. The silent majority will vote this November.

It's sort of annoying the term is as completely misused as it is when the "liberalism" in neo-liberalism is laissez-faire capitalism, not some left wing thing. It's about free market capitalism, not politics. The primary names associated with neoliberalism are Austrian school economists like Hayek and politicians like Augusto Pinochet, not a left winger.
