The interesting question is why she would believe it. How did Tarl scam her that successfully? When he talks, he comes off as someone who is lying.

There are certainly parallels between her and the more entitled and younger scam victims who think their boyfriend Johnny Depp needs Google Play giftcards, especially if you look at how egregious the lie is and how much the scammed person believes it.
