Science Study says new Lambda variant could be vaccine-resistant - Despite the article taking every chance to say "could", the research concluded that it, in fact, does.

  • A report sequenced samples of the lambda COVID-19 variant to see if it was resistant to humoral immunity.
  • Researchers identified a site at the spike protein’s binding receptor that potentially confers immune resistance along the lambda’s spike protein.
  • This study has not been peer reviewed.
The lambda variant, a COVID-19 mutation first identified in Peru that is quickly popping up worldwide, has been highlighted by governing bodies like the World Health Organizations (WHO) as a variant of interest. But a new study suggests that it may be resistant to some vaccines.
A preprinted whitepaper published in late July focused on the mutation that distinguishes the lambda variant, denoted as C.37, within its S protein, found in the cell’s binding receptor.
The mutation at this location on the virus is associated with being resistant to immunization efforts.
Using data from the Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data database, researchers found three mutations within the lambda spike protein that could mean resistance to antibodies induced in humans by vaccines.
“Our results suggest that the resistance of the Lambda variant against antiviral humoral immunity was conferred by the RSYLTPGD246-253N mutation,” the report concludes.
The RSYLTPGD246-253N mutation, along with two other mutations identified when synthesizing the COVID-19 samples, specifically resists immunity from antibodies generated by the human body.
Notably, the study sampled genome sequences from South American countries like Chile, Peru and Argentina, where the lambda variant is the dominant strain.
Chile’s primary vaccine is developed by Sinovac, rather than the common Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna shots used in the U.S.
The study is not peer reviewed.

Kind reminder that the Spanish Flu still exists and this hypochondriac shitstorm will never end until politicians get beheaded.

The fearmongery never ends until people start jabbing the "experts" with hot lead in Roblox.

See, they took thr branding too far. "Delta" sounds scary. Mekong Delta? Delta force? Sure. Gamma was good.

Epsilon onwards just sounds a little silly. Lamda and Mu both sound cute. It's time to try scary numbers or something
You're not wrong... Mu is right before Nu, and Nu makes me think of Chrono Trigger.

Ladies and Gentlemen, your Nu variant!

get the jab
get the second jab
get the booster shot every three months
get the new variant jab
get the new variant booster shot every three months in addition to the old one
[repeat every time a new variant pops up]
Y'know, that would be pretty reasonable for at-risk people. Old farts take all kinds of treatments to keep living.

It's mandating it for everyone where the wheels come off.

Unwashed masses arguing against constantly shifting goalposts and eternal mask/lockdown requirements = Dangerous misinformation.

Journalists publishing articles about a single study that has yet to even be reviewed, let alone repeated = Totally okay, just keeping us informed.

I'm sure this isn't just garbage marketing material from Pfizer. Would Albert Bourla lie to us?

I agree with other replies - a useless article. Though I've read a number of articles about this variant and there isn't much solid data. It probably is resistant to a degree - as are all strains of Covid to vaccines now.

The only thing that is certain is that a strain will most certainly evolve that is very resistant to the current vaccine and would require an entirely new vaccine. But we already knew that was coming. And the resistant strains may be worse or not than Delta.

I'll take my boosters for what it's worth, but I recognize a couch trip when I see one. This bitch isn't leaving anytime soon (as we knew would happen). I hope a new strain takes over that is pretty mild, but something is gnawing at me about Covid in that it appears to be more akin to a mammalian virus as it seems to cross over to other mammals with incredible ease, and I just can't shake the feeling every time that I eat Bacon, that this virus is going to take a ride on a pig and then come back to me with some new coding that makes it bad as a big Fuck You right back at me.

The moral of the story is, while you can, eat as much bacon as you can. I'm pretty certain I got the Delta strain and have some thinking impairment going on - I caught myself listening to "the Final Countdown" by Europe, and I am pretty sure that it's a bad sign.

Cool. Which one comes after "lambda" because I'll have to start changing the strain I scaremonger about to make people think I'm smart.

Lambda had a good run, too. Most people have heard the word "delta" before so it didn't impress them as much. But "lambda" turned heads and made people listen to me.

I'm so glad we went through lockdowns, mask mandates, destroying the economy, destroying civil liberties, and the politicization of healthcare just so it could all get undone by fucking petri dishes Peruvians.

Sometimes God looks at your best plans and says jajajajajajajaja
