Talk about games you're interested in that haven't released yet or the development of games that already exist. I couldn't find a thread for this so I decided i'd make it. tell me if there is one and I just didn't see it.
Sometimes you can find an absolute gem by looking at what hasn't come out yet, even if most games never see a release.

mod dev wasn't mentioned but it was 110% implied.

Every access game on my wishlist like Ultrakill. No I won't pay someone to test their beta build, that even if fun, will almost assuredly have every interesting part removed to appease trannies.

Monsters and Memories. EQ throwback from a small team that looks promising. Cheesy name but I've played a couple play tests and it's solid.

I don't know what the heck the developer is doing, hopefully they're still alive.
I've been keeping an eye on this game for a while. I feared it was abandoned as the dev hasn't put out a new video since 2024, but he said on the Steam discussion page that he's still working on it:

I hope something comes out of it, it's a unique take on the monster raising genre among a sea of Pokeclones.

You should also include mods because.

Operation Black Mesa, started development in 2007, learned about it in 2017 and it still hasn't come out. Even the blue shift one hasn't been finished yet.

Half life dark matter is a mod where you take control of the Black ops team for the gold source engine. Hasn't had a big update since 24. Creator still says he's working on it still as of March 6th of this year.

Nova Arizona/Dry Wells expansion are mods that expand Caesars legion lore and are supplemental mods to the Long 15 expansion.

Skyblivion/Skywind are mods I have been waiting for a long time.

Fallout 2 remake in fallout 4

Fallout Miami has released several trailers within the past few years that show it pretty far into development, still no release date.

Whichever vampire the masquerade remake is still ongoing can't remember which one is it'll going but still waiting on it.

There's a half life team that's working on some of the beta content that has released actual stuff but nothing feature complete, raising the bar or something like that.

Honorable mention goes to CS: CO for having a retarded devlopment lead who used leaked code to try and make a more feature complete game only to get absolutely shafted out of having a steam release even after the release of CS2 because of his incompetence

One of the things I was seriously hyped for for a long time was a surrealist horror boomyshoot called Divine Frequency. I was very happy when they got picked up by Hellforge Studios, a company (possibly run by a NZer?) that publishes games built in GZDOOM and such.

Unfortunately, the guy responsible for refining Divine Frequency's story died. He was very good at whittling the MONGOL-like schizo lore of the creator into something that seems like retarded rambling at first but has an internal consistency that creates a very cosmic horror "I wasn't meant to know this" feeling. It was magnified tenfold by the fucking bizarre world, resulting in one of the only times I've enjoyed a Lynchian dreamy half-reality in any media.

I got to play a few early versions (especially when they were still using Doom/Blood assets), and the combat is cool but the story was really what I was interested about, and I'm not optimistic another writer will come along with that talent for turning schizobabble into worrying eldritch context.
Nowadays, one of the games I'm quite hyped for is Acrolyte. It's a 2D Metroid-like with an interesting visual style, and some changes to the Metroid formula. It's been getting more updates now it has a Steam demo. Only criticism from having played an hour of the recent version is that the world is now way too big for how empty it is. Takes fucking forever to traverse and has no fast travel yet. But: good fast-paced combat, responsive controls, grimdark story, and they're not heavy-handed with the implied weird cybernetic body-horror shit going on with your character and some upgrades (you casually graft a spaceship booster to your nervous system to unlock your Dash).

Ultrakill
It was fun last time I touched it, but all I've seen about Ultrakill for years is that it's now full of stupid fucking memes, discord injokes, and shit like a hidden boss that's literally just Mandalore and That Owl Guy Whose Name I Can't Remember. Shit like that has thoroughly put me off playing until it's done, and I'm worried about what I'll actually get at the end.

Edit:
A friend reminded me of this game the other month, I casually reminded him it's been almost a decade since that mod was announced. He didn't believe me until he went and checked the original announcement 8 years ago. No idea why it's not already out.

I thoroughly enjoyed Fallen Aces, or at least what there is of it, when it came out in 2024, but it being a New Blood game means I'm still waiting for them to drop episode 2, which probably isn't even going to be the final one.

Release date: Never. Ever. Even worse now that Michel Ancel retired.

I hope something comes out of it, it's a unique take on the monster raising genre among a sea of Pokeclones.
By the way, his pixel art is insane.

Do you think that his final character portraits he did were without references? Like I did watch some video on his Twitter or something about him getting better at pixel art on faces, but the last ones are incredibly detailed.

I've been keeping tabs on Vein for a few years now, as the most promising 'Project Zomboid 3D' in development. It's definitely improved a lot in the couple of years it's been around, but I'm starting to worry they're going in the wrong direction by shifting focus to multiplayer.

Gimme a 3D open world where you're the sole survivor and need to grind out an existence, hoarding a base full of shit you scavenged from the dangerous dead world around you. That's it. That's all I want. Don't squander such promise on the race-to-the-bottom that is factions multiplayer survival garbage. Gimme more world, more things to scav, and more stuff to do with the things I scav.

The Scramble Vice was supposed to come out last year, but now is just "Coming soon". *sigh*

Stoneshard has been in early access for six years, but I keep holding out hope that they'll announce a full release.

V.A Proxy just keeps releasing cool gameplay videos.

Uncommon Time Predecessor gets tiny updates every UT stream.

Endacopia is "Done", and it's coming out "THIS SUMMER".
