This is one of the few "celebrity" deaths that actually upsets me.

The species is poorer without him. A big, bold F.
 
I know he didn't believe in heaven, but I hope he's up there right now flying around on kickass cyborg wings. Rest in peace.
 
I didn't particularly care for him as a person, but he was fascinating nonetheless. His great intellect and contribution to physics is phenomenal (as is his fight with ALS, like damn), and it won't be evenly matched in our lifetime. This was inevitable, though the hole he's left behind is never going to be completely filled.

Oh boy, now I get to scroll through 50 million “R.I.P. Prof Hawkins, T&P” posts on facebook tomorrow from people that aren’t remotely familiar with physics.
 
For someone who managed to survive a life destroying illness, he is one of the most amazing people to exist in this era. I will miss his musical career the most.

 
Plot twist: he actually died 20 years ago and his sentient cybernetic chair has just been carting his corpse around.
