The devs of Among Us are just now getting to a 3D version of the game? Didn't the hype and rage around Among Us die like 3 to 4+ years ago? I've also seen fan games of Among Us in 3D so I'm confused as to who is going to be excited over this since you can already play 3D like Among Us games.

I'm pretty sure it's just a port of the vr game to a non vr build.

Ah, that makes sense. I think that was the "fan game" of 3D Among Us I was referring to. Still, I don't believe that there are people out there being excited for Among Us fucking 3D.

Of the demos that I tried so far I have found 2 to be interesting enough.
The good ones -
Labyrinth of the Demon King
The environment and world was interesting, but I never find the "retro" look particularly scary. Combat was simple, but enjoyable. Not too complex, you have a parry, dodge, light and strong attack, it works decent when fighting enemies.

Stygian: Outer Gods
Pretty short, maybe around 10 minutes. Even shorter if you skip through all the dialogue. More a teaser than a demo honestly, but regardless it seemed promising enough.

Most of the other demos I tried have been pretty bad. Mainly all trashy unity horror games.

Steam Next Fest is happening again. What have you found among the unity slop and Chinese asset flips?

I thought QuantumPulse 2A was a Zachtronics game, heh. Gonna have to write down what else I actually try.

I heard there is going to be remaster of Days Gone. I know it's not Next fest related buy why remaster a game that was released in 2019 and 2021 on the PC?

I tried out Hot Wax. It's a Tetris style game where the blocks are candles, and you clear them by lighting them and chaining wicks together to make combos. I enjoyed the couple of rounds I played, so I wishlisted it. Hopefully there's enough in terms of gameplay to make it worth a purchase.

Not played the demos of these, but they look neat.

No Alibi. Looks like a co-op Hotline Miami.

A Bumpy Ride. A train driving game with a DS art style.

This shit looks so grim it felt like I was browsing latest uploads on Miniclip in the early 2000s.
edit: AIslop thumbnails. Great.

All this technology at hand and all we get is pathetic crap for vigin zoomers and people who like jap crap, asset flips, 'retro' shit that isn't even retro and the billionth chess game. This should be renamed Steam Crap Fest. Thankfully shit like that Waifu Pillow (wtf...i don't even wanna know that people buy stuff like that, how sad and pathetic can you be?) will probably get removed from sale here in germany due to loli graphics.

That's not even a new demo, but the old gamescom demo from 2023 that wasn't all that well received.

AI art is a useful tool for indie devs. Wanting it banned is dumb. There are so many bigger issues with Steam than AI art being used.
It's a fine tool within the game itself, but using it as the face of your product is demoralizing and grim. Seeing thumbnails with the same art styles mixed with incomprehensible composition is equivalent to seeing advertisements with race mixed families and forced goycattle humor.

Unrelated, but I regret even checking next fest.

cross-posting the post I made about Next Fest before I saw this thread

wtf happened to Steam Next Fest? It's been pretty decent for the past few years, but for some reason this year's is absolutely overflowing with AI-generated, Chinese-owned slop. I browse by genre, too, and a good 80% of this slop was stuffing every single tag it could in there so that shit like "zombie graveyard simulator," a primarily Simulation game with farming and economy elements, was showing up in the FPS tab. I found a single new game that I liked out of the several-hundred I browsed when in other years my Following tab would usually double. Entire pages of games had to be skipped because there was nothing on there except absolute garbage. What on earth happened for the quality to take such a nosedive this time? I checked the page without my hidden tags and it doesn't look any better. I'm not surprised-- the vast majority of my hidden tags have to do with hiding gay shit, mobile-port dominated genres like Idlers, Clickers, and Match-3s, and stuff I just don't like, like Horror or MMORPGs. The slop problem just got worse without them.

I can go on like this forever, every single genre tab is infected with this stuff and the Simulation/Strategy genres unfortunately some of my favorites have it especially bad. I can't imagine why the difference is so drastic compared to last year. Maybe it has to do with me seeing more Chinese games on Steam in general. :/

game makes a huge deal of there being selectable flags for the train, trailer has the gay flags on the front for the entire duration despite this supposedly being set in the 1800s (look at how the little furries you ferry around are dressed, the admitted 19th century inspiration, and the setting in-context), and the entire game is just LoZ: Spirit Tracks without the adventuring or the kickass train theme
seriously that theme is so fucking good how did the devs miss out on this nvm forgot that people like this can't make anything decent or original, next question
personally I wouldn't trust this, it has enough indicators of troonslop that either the game's fanbase will be flooded with the types or the devs will be outed as such and be relatively obnoxious about it. Kind of a shame because I like the concept, but the execution says a lot and I am keeping my expectations extremely low

on the topic of train games, I guess I should share the only game in the entire festival that caught my interest: Crystal Rail, a sort of weird roguelite monopoly built around being a ruthless railroad tycoon.

It's clunky, it's got some questionable aspects (I don't know why the conductors are animals or trust that it's for a good reason, for example, and the whole revolution bit reeks), but I really appreciate that it's trying to do something new and the stained glass look is very unique. I don't appreciate how it seems to have taken some cues from Persona 5 in regards to character portraits, I think those bold neon colors and slanted nametags clash rather hard with the rest of the game, but that's bordering on nitpicking so I won't harp on it.

The main thing going against this game (other than the general clunkiness of the interface) is probably the writing. You can see from the descriptions of the leaders and the gameplay mechanics that the devs aren't exactly nuanced writers, but given the premise of the game I don't think that'll be too big an issue. Seems like it'll focus more on mechanics and board game elements than characters or worldbuilding, so I don't think bad writing will be too huge a deal.

Please keep posting actually decent games you find in this utter shitheap. I can't take the amount of shovelware on display anymore lol. It's seriously exhausting to sift through so much dogshit to find even the mediocre stuff.
