Unless the year is 2002 and you're playing Combat Evolved on the spankin' new Xbox you got for Christmas there's literally not a single reason to play Halo.

Now you're forcing us to endure your spergouts with Halo? Holy fuck GET GOOD.

i mean it's not like it's a fundamental game which pretty much redefined many "rules" for the entire genre (limited weapon inventory, regenerating health/shields, grenades that worked predictably, etc) or it has an interesting plot i mean why would anyone want to play it really

You realize all of that was already standard stuff by 2001, right?

The only thing Halo "defined" was clean up the control layout for console FPS games after Goldeneye, but what the fuck do I care about console FPS games. The worst platform and controller combination to play first person shooters on got slightly better but remained inferior, that's the legacy of Halo.

Nigger please, I can't even get a proper copy of Goldeneye on a webstore, if you want to play Goldeneye on PC you have to get an emulator.

Meanwhile Halo is a multimillion dollar franchise.

This is like saying Archimedes inventing calculous first matters even though it was lost to history and the evidence only survived because monks wrote the bible on his notes.

Whatever you say, zoomer. Please find me a pre-Halo FPS which had at least the regeneration and the limited inventory elements and I'll take a hammer to my own cock.

EDIT: Oh, and it was the first FPS to really do vehicles right too… (IIRC. I know one of the Unreal Tournaments did them at some point but I'm fairly certain it was after Halo. Please correct if I'm wrong.)

I don't think you understood what I was saying. Goldeneye was the first somewhat functional attempt to take the FPS genre to consoles. It set the watermark until Halo came along and cleaned up the jank that Goldeneye still suffered from. Halo: CE was basically where shooters on a gamepad peaked in terms of controller input. They're still functionally the same.

The multimillion dollar franchise argument is worthless unless you own Microsoft stock, do you? I don't. What's the most watched TV show? Big Bang Theory? The Kardashians? Baby Yoda? Does that make them good? Unless you're making money off the product the sales figures are a meaningless metric.

lolno, Doom 64 & Quake came long before Goldeneye, but you're acting like Goldeneye was 1:1 with Halo & Halo just took all the credit.

Did Goldeneye even have vehicle combat? I'm guessing not.

Have you tried Bayonetta yet?
Oh this is Bayonetta dude, I was wondering why people were treating him kinda shitty but it's totally because he deserves it.

Eh. I mean its okay. nothing too great? Like idk halo is kinda overrated lmao.

CLNL
You'll probably get a better reception if you post in

or if you think Halo being overrated is a particularly controversial opinion

Are you genuinely retarded? That's literally the opposite of what I said.

I don't mean that as an insult, I'm asking if you have some sort of learning disability so I won't use any inappropriate slurs in the future.

You're an idiot. You literally said that everything Halo innovated on was already standardized by 2001, then further implied that the only real difference between your example, Goldeneye, & Halo, were the control schemes.

You can't even retain this much in your head when responding to refutations. You can't even put up when asked if they share half of the same mechanics or not. You can't even answer if Goldeneye had vehicle combat or not.

What a waste of time.
