Isn't it the Romulan Star Empire? Presumably they have a lot more than one planet, and it seems weird to think that losing one planet (even the capital) would be a permanently crippling blow.
This is a Kurtzman production, you're thinking too much.
Jokes aside, there is a lot of things wrong with the events that led to ST 2009. Like you said, the Romulan Empire is a star empire, it's not limited to one planet or one star system. Also they got the science wrong, a star doesn't turn into a supernova in the next minute, there must have been Romulan scientists or simple observers who could've noticed the star changing its status as the centuries went on, so plenty of time to make the preparations to leave the homeworld and find another planet within the Star Empire.
The problem with these hack writers is that they fucked up the main timeline with their pseudo-science and the item from JJ's Mystery Box (the Red Matter). No matter what happens, the destruction of Romulus is canon and that's sad. Now they're using that shitty plot device to talk about muh peaceful refugees.

STD does better overseas
Have they released any numbers?

Yeah, let's be real here. What people want with "ST;Picard" is basically more TNG episodes. But I fear we will instead focus on a Mary Sue and poorly written OCs with the 90's trek cast being relegated to cameos.

I hope I'm wrong, but what I've heard from ST;D doesn't give me hope.
Exactly. People are expecting to see TNG again but they should know better, I mean just look at the TNG movies, lol.

Am I too late for the DS9 circlejerk? Damn good series. Also all the women still look good.

Once the merger is done and if Shari Redstone wants to prove she gives a damn about Star Trek. She will make everything Bad Robot touched non-canon.

'edit' Yes I am fully aware it will never happen but one can hope it does.

They're modeled closely enough on ancient Rome that I think in this case it's fair for people to assume the Empire would dissolve.

The Roman Empire outlived the fall of Rome by nearly 1200 years, remaining the strongest military and economic power in Europe for most of that period.

It could also be true that it's not much of an "Empire" and that Romulans are simply lying about how large their space is

It seems to strain disbelief that nobody would notice that over 200 years of contact and conflict with the Romulans and their neighbors.

Plus, we can get a reasonable approximation of the military power of the Romulans from their participation in DS9's Dominion War; they seem roughly on par with the Cardassians and Klingons, both of whom are shown on screen to possess large empires with numerous inhabited, developed worlds.

Romulans were roughly equal to the Klingons and the Federation in territory and military strength. The Cardassians up until their alliance with the Dominion were a lesser power who continued existence is owed to the Federation not curbstomping them during their previous war prior to TNG. And again when the Federation intervene in stopping the Klingons from curbstomping them during that war in DS9.

Maybe it was like The Force Awakens and their whole navy just happened to unfortunately be right next to the planet when it blew up for unspecified plot reasons.
The backstory for the MMO had multiple reasons the Empire overall died and if anyone is interested I can post it, I guarantee it 's better than anything Woke Trek will say inevitably

I feel like activating my anger unit. Post away.

I don't remember exactly but something about iconians brainwashing the empress and lots of reman and romulan defectors to the splinter new republic

To play devil's advocate, there could be reasons for that; "Empire" could be a translation of some similar-but-not-identical concept, or it could be a legacy of when Romulus was (presumably) divided into multiple polities, much as how Japan is still notionally an empire (complete with an emperor) despite being essentially an island chain.

Oh and yeah they added later on that the Iconians manipulated or brainwashed one or more Romulan scientist(s) to study Iconians tech which cause the destruction of Romulus because a Romulan killed an Iconians during time travel, but as I said Romulans were already doing that on their own before that was added later on

Speaking of Short Treks, STD grimly deconstructs tribbles

That is fucking stupid. I know the creator of Tribbles went on to do War Against the Chtorr, but Tribbles are supposed to be disarming. Invent another fuzzy thing that actually looks like it can eat people. This trailer looks like a total fakeout anyway.

Also they're leaping around like the Killer Rabbit of Caenerbog. Star Trek Discovery has officially descended to Monty Python levels. Fuck this shit.
