I think it was on the DVD at least. They make jokes about Nemesis too, so it must be relatively late.

Also I meant *commentary

They can Walk of Shame it and awkwardly de-age his jowls and paste the result onto a body double :optimistic:
I don't understand why they didn't do something with a body double. If they can paste dead people's faces onto body doubles in Star Wars, surely it would be pretty trivial to film Brent Spiner's face and superimpose it onto a double. It might look funny but the results would surely be better than this.

Well we have to remember that this isn't actually Data (unless Picard was dreaming or whatever), just the convenient third Noonian Soong type android Data transfered his core memories into before he an hero'd at the end of Nemesis, so maybe the third brother tried to assert his individuality by becoming old, fat and tired-looking.

That's just a guess. We have no idea yet how stupid STP is going to get.

Also why are they using a Romulan Bird-of-Prey from the TOS era?

(This is the actual reason, regardless of what they come up with to justify it.)

Romulus was blown up in the backstory to Star Trek 09, likely all they had were museum pieces orbiting around bumfuck Rihannsu planet

Isn't it the Romulan Star Empire? Presumably they have a lot more than one planet, and it seems weird to think that losing one planet (even the capital) would be a permanently crippling blow.

Maybe it was like The Force Awakens and their whole navy just happened to unfortunately be right next to the planet when it blew up for unspecified plot reasons.

It could also be true that it's not much of an "Empire" and that Romulans are simply lying about how large their space is

What if it's a plot point that Data got fat AF? Lol, I'm just kidding.
Well he became a flotation device in Insurrection. Maybe they can reveal Soong missed a bug in his systems and he can't deflate now.

It also wouldn't really hurt the acting if it was full CGI, Peter Cushing in Rogue One-style. It might actually make him look more like an unreal android, but obviously they don't have the budget for that.

They're modeled closely enough on ancient Rome that I think in this case it's fair for people to assume the Empire would dissolve.

...and where do they find all that money to waste on STD? It looks like they went overseas to shoot a big part of the season, that's not cheap.

STD does better overseas. So if they film overseas more foreigners will watch...its about ROI

Yeah, let's be real here. What people want with "ST;Picard" is basically more TNG episodes. But I fear we will instead focus on a Mary Sue and poorly written OCs with the 90's trek cast being relegated to cameos.

I hope I'm wrong, but what I've heard from ST;D doesn't give me hope.
