Check it out motherfuckers. They did this with Wrath of Khan a few years ago, I've been waiting for them to do it with The Motion Picture. When I went to see the re-release of Wrath of Khan the theater in my area was almost dead, it was great. If you live anywhere reasonably populated you should be able to get tickets for this.

I want to be hype but last Fathom event I went to was some shitty stream of Gundam that couldn't have even been 720p. When your whole point is fine detail spaceships a bunch of blurry pixels is worthless shit.

Wrath of Khan was good aside from the fact that the sound in my theater was kind of quiet. Then again I once saw The French Connection in an old-fashioned theater and my ears nearly blew out of my head during the sniper scene because the building was like a cathedral, i might just be complacent by this point.

That was the one around JJTrek or JJTrek 2, right? I caught that at local theater, that was a fun time, nice enough copy. That's one big reason I'm hesitant to see TMP, because I saw some of the spaceship shots in a good enough format, so now if they do some cheap shit I'll probably notice it more.

That was actually awhile after JJTrek 2, I was to say it teetered on being close to JJTrek 3. 2017, I think? I'm more worried they're gonna play the remastered version of TMP that has that ugly fuck CGI shot of V'Ger. Or, worse, the original theatrical cut with the bad sound mastering. I'm still gonna go see it because I'm a movie sperg to the core, but there's enough versions of it out there that I have no idea which one it'll be.

Wrath of Khan was just the directors cut. Its about as good as the original, there's precisely one scene I like less in that version and the rest of the scenes were better.

That's a different showing, then, because the time I saw there was a showing a few days previous where JJ and Nimoy came out and were all "lol pranked here's new one" and I was mildly concerned I wouldn't get to see WoK

Mosley went on to explain that the individual in HR said that while he was free to use that word in a script, he "could not say it." Mosley then clarified, "I hadn’t called anyone it. I just told a story about a cop who explained to me, on the streets of Los Angeles, that he stopped all n---ers in paddy neighborhoods and all paddies in n---er neighborhoods, because they were usually up to no good. I was telling a true story as I remembered it."

. . .

Monica-based Secret Hideout offices that serve as the writers rooms for Discovery, Picard and multiple other Star Trek shows. Paradise and Kurtzman, who previously dismissed two Discovery showrunners after claims of abusive language and behavior, later learned that Mosley had quit the series without so much as a call to explain what happened. (It's worth noting that Discovery has a particularly inclusive writers room that includes three African American scribes, two Asian American writers, a Native American and Latinx woman, among others.)

tl;dr - Star Trek: Discovery producers reprimanded a black writer for telling a story in which a cop called him a "nigger." Said black man also mysteriously becomes three shades whiter in the Hollywood Reporter's reference photo.

That sounds a lot like that weird story about a big higher up from Netflix. They were having a discussion about what words they could or could not use in their programs or their ads and the guy said "the word nigger". It wouldn't have been a problem if someone didn't walk past the office and heard him say the word. That person complained to HR and got him fired.

But so far , IMHO DS9 has the edge in having great characters. B5 spent so much time setting up the war plot, the human characters were mostly very plain during season 1.

being fair in comparing their first season (or early season 2) selves, I like Sisko a lot more than Sinclair or Sheridan. And Kira was a lot more interesting than Ivanova. Even Bashir, despite being hated, had a lot more personality than Franklin.

Later seasons of b5 might change my mind, but I give the edge to Ds9 so far.
B5 seasons 3 and 4 are considered the best seasons and season 5 the weakest. If you're not willing to watch season 5 just skip to the last episode "Sleeping In Light" for the series conclusion.

It's depressing to think that B5's season 4 could've been two seasons if carried out according to plan. I second skipping the season 5 that we did get unless super curious, it really is dispiriting to watch.

So now that it's getting closer, is anyone here going to go see Star Trek: The (Slow) Motion Picture in theaters in like a week?

I hate to say it... I don't particularly like TMP, but I think I just might...

The burning question on my mind though, does pedo dad from 7th Heaven (Decker) get royalties? lol.

The director's cut of TMP is supposedly much better because it cuts out a lot of the filler.

Myself, I just can't help but be impressed by how 1970s it is, from disco Bones to the whole plot being about sex.

As a B5 nerd I can say that there are some eps of season 5 worth watching, and they all, besides the finale, either involve Londo, that one episode by Neil Gaiman, or the episode "The Corps is Mother, The Corps is Father." The PsiCorps is your friend. Trust the Corps.

...or the episode "The Corps is Mother, The Corps is Father." The PsiCorps is your friend. Trust the Corps.

I can't help but suspect a "Bester Gets His Comeuppance" story arc was in the works but was cancelled.

I would have liked that, a lot.

I might, but last Fathom thing I saw looked like some shit pirate 620p stream, and when the only reason I'm there is high quality spaceship gravure that's not a very good thing.

I just started watching The Orville recently. When I watched the original trailer two years ago I immediately hated it and thought it was going to be "Family Guy in space". But since Star Trek fans have been so positive about the show in the wake of the disaster that is Discovery, I decided to give it a try.

I'm only four episodes in so far, but I'm really enjoying it. Some of the humor falls flat and Malloy and LaMarr are completely annoying and useless characters, but the stories and serious moments are great. The third episode in particular, regarding Moclan gender reassignment, had me hooked.

I too like the Orville. I wasn't expecting too but I found myself enjoying the series. I understand that Seth is a massive ST fan and I guess his homage to ToS is better then you would expect. It's not Trek exactly...but it's sure not bad.

It's far far more entertaining the STD. Which just makes me cringe.

If it's any consolation, the chick who only got the job because she was boning McFarlane in the first season got fired by the second season.
