Anyone want more Dukat clips?
1000195898.jpg

I can’t find a clip, but "Apocalypse Rising" is full of great Dukat quotes. He dumps Sisko on Qo’noS and goes, “Smell ya later, Emeril.”

Sisko: “Hey how TF are we supposed to get back?” :o

If this were a JRPG before the boss, Dukat would still be charging bulk rate for Hi-Potions.

"Either they blow you up, or you convince the retards they've been played and give you a lift. Either way, my job as taxi driver is done, Benjamin. G'night!"

Its rare for a show to have good writing six seasons in:
Really channeling his inner Hitler there at the end.

I keep forgetting how goofy cardassians looked with that neck sometimes, the full body shots really highlight it.

It was a lot less pronounced when they were introduced in TNG as an alien-of-the-week species:

and honestly, goofy beard and low budget face mask non-withstanding, it did look better IMO.

He looks like a ventriloquist dummy.
Yeah that last sentence there makes no sense. I meant the neck looked better, not the rest of the makeup. I expressed myself poorly.

On the other hand, the Ferengi were pretty much looking like they ended up looking in DS9. Armin Shimerman looks a lot younger here, even with the makeup. Well, it was 1987.

When I googled this image, I found this little interview tidbit, I wasn't aware that Quark felt personally responsible for the failure of the Ferengis to land:
What we were told about the Ferengi and what we ended up with were like night and day. The Ferengi were going to be the new Klingons. They were never meant to be a comical race; they were meant to be ferocious and menacing. And unfortunately, they hired me to play one of the lead Ferengi, and I failed miserably.

My final performance was not at all what [Star Trek: The Next Generation creator] Gene Roddenberry wanted. By that point, he was rather sick, and he was not on set. But I met him briefly–maybe no more than 30 seconds–when he looked at my makeup and looked at my costume.

“The Last Outpost” was a disaster. And no one one bears the brunt of that mistake more than I do.

Armin acts like he personally invented the Ferengi. He was just doing whatever the director Richard A. Colla told him. He directed CHiPs and some mid-budget action comedy stuff.

Armin was depending on Colla to tell him how to play a Ferengi. But you can't really say that at a convention. “Well, according to Dick Cola...”

Armin's version of the story is cleaner, he's an old pro so he's not going to say "well the direction was dog shit" in any case.

ngl I don't think there's a way to direct Armin (with a butt glued to his head) that will make him sincerely indimidating
sleezy, creepy, they def got what they could out of Ferengi in DS9 but yeah even if you had Arnold as their muscle it's still the Terminator With A Butt Glued To His Head

Personally I always regarded that story as spin. How do you square “Ferengi are the new Klingons” with these goldbugs who are constantly molesting women outside their race? It makes Rowling look subtle.

"Last Outpost" is where Gene went out to lunch. It took years to unfuck them into something that was even vaguely not-offensive.

They specifically designed the makeup around Marc who is proportioned like Uncle Sam.

A lot of them just end up looking like a Funko Pop version of a Cardassian.

Most of time they don't put any thought to the makeup at all when casting.

I did thoroughly enjoy that when Iggy Pop had his cameo it was very clearly him. Even dressed up as a Vorta you can’t hide that unmistakeable face of his.

Turns out he has scoliosis, so he’s actually way shorter than his head implies. His spine is like a stack of quarters so they weren't about to make him do much....

At least he was in this show and not Small Dick Academy.

Some producer could have told the director "no"
