I remember him playing Hiro's dad in Heroes and he managed to still pull badass off like 20 years ago.

Proud to say I never liked Heroes. Couple actors spun out of it. All of them have dead careers, though... Some of them are literally dead.

And if you’re gonna center the entire stupid season around Claire, at least cast someone who can act her way out of a paper bag. Sylar would starve if he ate her brain. (RIP, I guess.)

I don't know what I think about actors running a racket at cons doing pics and sigs. Even people like gay Klingon probably charge $50 and that's how they "work" when not acting. When I was a kid I went to a sci-fi con and met Bruce Campbell, got his signature, and he was just at a table where a few folks waited in line. I think he was promoting Hercules or something but he did a big talk in the hall later about Evil Dead. I have no idea how approachable Campbell is these days, maybe he is a bad example (he is facing mortality now, bless him) but I know William Shatner charges like $1000 for a ninety second photo-op, autograph$ extra.

Like, there should be an age limit. Once you’re a certain amount of dead you can’t just roll in there charging a grand a pop.

The problem with Bill specifically is that Gene scammed him out of the show's residuals (on-brand...Russell Brand, that is), so he feels entitled to charge what he likes, and also talk about whatever he likes...He treats the moderator like a director who told him how to say “sabotage.”

I think Takei was wrecked when they canceled him for saying he didn't like that they made Sulu gay in Star Trek Beyond because he thought it was cannon Sulu had a wife and kids, they canceled him for that and since then he has been trying to make up for it by proving he is the gayest of the gays and the wokest of the woke.

In the end all it has done is burn bridges and made him a bitter old man.

Even when they made John Cho a fencing expert and openly gay, George could not take the W. He's just a catty contrarian.
Even back when Beyond came out while I was still getting into Star Trek, I didn't see what his deal with making Sulu gay was. You can't even say it violates continuity because the Kelvin movies are a different universe.

I think the big thing was they made Sulu gay because Takei was gay and thought he would appreciate it as a homage or something. Then they were blindsided by Takei saying "no, Sulu is not a swisher." Not to mention the idea that while Star Trek might show a brighter future for humanity, but that doesn't mean everyone wants to see fags on screen all the time, especially when the character had been described as normal for all those years. Race-swapping and sex-swapping is bad enough, but even normies have limits and Hollywood didn't anticipate that.

TooGay became insufferable after Howard Stern gave him a voice on the show... For a period of time he was really entertaining and it felt like his bitterness toward Shatner was waning... Then @No Batty Boys in Jamaica became president, stuff happened, things became all troonery and buffoonery, Trump arrived and loveable George became bitter rage monster. Many such cases.

It also didn't help that Star Trek: Excelsior didn't become a thing... He did that guest spot on VOY that was actually pretty decent and showed that he could carry a show like that at that point in his career... At that time I would have even said that would have turned out better than what ENT became... And now, ENT is TWoK compared to what followed.

More to the point, what the actor does in his personal life doesn't extend to the character he plays and vice versa.

Yeah, that was his main objection to Star Trek Beyond, he said they only made Sulu gay because he was gay and he didn't like that because he didn't like them acting like he was Sulu.

Of course he went back on all of that after they canceled him for saying it.

You can tell he's still angry. That entire story was just making Koenig look like the biggest loser possible.
To hear Takei tell it, he was the star of the show, but it wasn't Koening's fault that Takei left the show to go make The Green Berets and the producers brought in someone young that they could put in a Monkees wig and grab the Tiger Beat (or whatever the 60s counterpart was) demographic.

If anything, Takei should count his lucky stars that the producers didn't just write Sulu off the show entirely or just recast the part since he was busy. He was just a glorified day player and not the lynchpin of the show, regardless of what he seems to think.

Exactly, he got the big paycheck from working with John Wayne and got to come back to his day job when he was done, that us more than most actors get, I don't see what he is so bitter about.

Did he expect them to stop making Star Trek until he finished filming a movie?

Takei is a bitter old queen. There's no changing that.
What's his fucking problem, anyway? I get he's gay and was interned during WWII (which left his family destitute) and he's a liberal, but I don't quite understand why Takei is such an asshole professionally. Is it just typical Boomer shit? I don't know enough about him outside of Trek.

Shatner is completely full of himself and Nimoy I fully understand because I know where he grew up.

I think he thinks of himself as the real star of Star Trek and is mad Shatner is more famous, never mind Shatner got screwed to the point he was homeless and living in a pickup at one point, Shatner screwed him somehow.

Shatner never turns down work and gets as much for said work as he can, nothing wrong with that.

I think he is still mad that since the budget was cut Shatner had to cut some of his scenes from Star Trek V, but that is the nature of the business he chose to be a part of and it was almost 40 years ago, he needs to let it go.

So you think it's basically a bunch of office-tier political bullshit? Shatner definitely seems more like a hustler and I could believe there's a resentment there because Shatner had a better career overall. It really makes the friendships of the TNG cast refreshing and wholesome. I'm glad they're all friends.

If someone at Paramount went You can have Voyager or you can have the Excelsior with Sulu as captain ...it would be a profound dilemma. Excelsior at least has the chance to be funny. Sulu looks like he can chew some scenery.

But it would still need a competent showrunner so the point is already moot.

Walter was right there!🕺
