He starts out as a tyrant but over the season becomes fully omnicidal because every streaming villain has to threaten “all existence.” Spock's the new court jester. He also unironically gives a speech about not fitting into the cultural boxes society has made for people. Low and behold the episode is about rescuing slaves from Orion slave traders. Look unto the horrors man hath wrought.

Made it to season 6 of TNG, you can see the wheels are starting to wobble and you know they’ll be coming off soon. Maybe it’s just the foreknowledge that pretty soon Crusher will be fucking a space ghost.
The Scotty episode faintly smells of desperation to me, but at least Doohan got a paycheck.
It’s not all bad though. Want to know the best thing about these later seasons? No bloody Wesley.

“Relics” is unintentionally hilarious because it’s framed like this turf-war episode between Scotty and La Forge, it almost threatens to parallel that short lived Season Two 'rivalry' where Data bodies Pulaski and sends her straight to Hell.

They do the bullshit reconciliation Star Trek thing at the end but the damage is done. After the whole Leah Brahms sex doll fiasco, Geordi has no aura left. And this is before he gets duped by the Duras sisters (of all people) into destroying the Enterprise.
But anyway.. honestly the late TNG “bad episodes” are, at least, fun-bad. People clown on "Sub Rosa" or "Masks" but at least those are funny, like “what were they smoking."
"Gambit" is the worst, it’s like they took every boring TNG trope (archaeology, Romulans, Picard solo missions) and put it together. Picard is supposed to be a space pirate which is already asinine, because Patrick Stewart is not built for it. "Honor Among Thieves" did the same thing with O’Brien and it worked because O’Brien can pass as a thief. Then Riker shows up in part two doing the same undercover crap but as a rogue Starfleet officer. Why wasn’t this his job from the start? Instead they gave the assignment to Picard?
I liked Spike, his redemption arc/Buffy love arc was...good. David Marsters is a good actor and made it all believable. Plus his snark is 100% pure gold.
I liked the redhead girl before she went lezbo witch. It was neat to see a "normal" person trying to deal with all that super-natural shit without going insane....which she did later but after season 4 I wouldn't watch any more.
I liked the dark brooding atmosphere. David Borezan played it pretty well and the show tanked when he left.
It was a decent show if you didn't take it seriously. Hell...I even kinda liked spin off Angel.
