I love h&I one episode of each Star Trek per night. Anybody else watch the channel?

Tonight on ds9 why the fuck does everyone try to make Nog disavow Starfleet. Even Jake. Captain Sisko riding his ass hard. Wtf. Nog has the will and more gumption than Wesley or that methanol breather on TNG .

In hindsight it’s retarded they gave Nog that much shit for joining Starfleet. Data and Worf are just walking around the Enterprise, some half-Romulan started a Red scare and Picard had to do a whole courtroom speech to shut that shit down.

We were still so mad about Wesley Crusher. So they’re like “alright this time the cadet’s gonna earn his keep.” Nog gets screamed at, hits the books, gets his leg blown off in the war.... they also made his satellite ears useful, with Nog acting as a scout.

I like that in-universe both career paths are completely explainable. Nog got into it during the dominion war, bull rushed the academy, sent into the war in the middle of it, got I think like two separate war time promotions, makes sense for a high enterprising ferengi who has found his calling.

Kim meanwhile is stuck completely cut off from Star fleet and in a position where he's both needed and can't easily be rotated out. Makes complete sense he doesn't advance. Also think it's not that unusual for personnel to just remain as ensigns for the length of their service. Probably a lot of people aren't lifers like most of the cast we follow but just serve for five or ten years then go do something else (join the Maquis).

I need to watch this show again, I have no memory of this scene.
It's from the episode "Won't get Fooled Again".

It's like an entire fever dream episode. Almost feels like the kind of episode that turns into a "remember when" clip episode which is a sneaky way to give the cast and crew a bit of a break but more creative.

This part near the end was the chef's kiss for me:

The episode heart of stone?

Because the kid was a little deliquent! They had to be sure his resolve was genuine or whether it was a scam.

Plus, you know, being starfleet is hard. You got to face borg, dominion, random anomalies and crystaline entities. Remember Q's words to Picard?

Sisko is just giving Nog his version of that.

I know it's maybe better to keep things mysterious about the period, but I'd like to see a spin off about the post atomic horror, maybe that intermediate period after first contact where shit was mostly still fucked, but also being rebuilt.
The timeline is all jumbled up and messy, but I liked the idea of ENT with humanity being less refined and the Federation being just an idea yet. I think it'd be fun to have a loose sort of series where seasons depict different periods from the Eugenics Wars in the 90s over WWIII in the early 21st century to the post-atomic horror and the rebuilding periods later.
I think it could be interesting. Not really Star Trek per se... but then again, what proper Star Trek did we get in past decade? The Orville and I guess Lower Decks?

It's almost impossible. Time in grade promotions mean Kim moves up as long as there's a billet. Janeway promoted people based on whims and the writers had no clue what they were doing. Nog served during wartime when lots of officers died, so his trajectory makes sense.

I think people doubted Nog's intentions because he is, up until that point, a traditional Ferengi. They always have an angle and it wasn't until Sisko broke him down that he revealed his true feelings: Nog knew he was screwed in the Ferengi system, so he wanted in on the Federation. That's a major point behind the root beer scene with Quark and Garak: they both know their ways of life are threatened, and it's not due to subjugation or force. It's because the Federation works.

A series about the Vulcans working with the US to fix the planet and form United Earth would be cheap to make with little to no special effects and location shooting wherever they're filming. Enterprise would have made more sense if Starfleet wasn't founded yet and it was a joint United Earth military and science mission with a Vulcan scientist or military officer. Maybe make them a Romulan agent to lead into the Romulan War in season 3. Draw inspiration from SG1 where you have a CO who doesn't know shit about science. Then you can spend a season or two going into how the Federation was founded and expanding the lore of the original members.

I just don't trust them to make ST anymore. They've made it clear they don't respect the property and even if they've removed Kurtzman that doesn't mean they won't hire someone just as bad or possibly even worse.

I'm waiting until AI gets good enough for me to make my own tv shows then I'll share my creations here.

This gets remarked on a few times in the series. Most of the crew have done enough to have earned several promotions by the end of the show, but there are no openings and the only time field promotions are considered is if someone dies. We should have gotten another Tuvok murder mystery where all of the suspects were people who wanted the victim's job, like in the Mirror Universe.
