That episode gets singled out a lot.

At the time I thought it was alright. It's a very TNG-type of plot. Like the orphan who makes up a Romulan interrogation scenario for Riker. Will is so dad-like to the kid, but it gradually unravels into a mis-mash of desperate reaches as he figures out what's going on.

Edit: F*cking Hell, Braga. You really need to satisfy yourself before sitting down at a keyboard.

I've used the "deviant" sticker before, but I don't think I've ever personally given it to people who deserved it more than you two.
Aww thanks.

Make me feel good, which is tough considering I am watching the episode where Bashir becomes an old man and fights creepy space monsters. It's okay.

As usual, Garak is the best part of a Bashir episode.

His culture murders people if they become a liability. So of course he would place great value on surviving to old age. (For instance, Tain is the only head of the Obsidian Order who lived to see retirement.)

Deep Space Nine, season 3, episode 13, Life Support

This one is alright! I like this episode even if I don't love it. Watching Bashir and Kira go around concerning the ethics of keeping Bareil alive and himself is a great Star Trek question. And I am always on board whenever Winn is in an episode. Louise Fletcher was such a great "get" for DS9 and she kills it. Someone call @The Last Stand because he's got a new waifu. Anyway it is a good episode and the only real downside with it is that Bareil has been voted off of the island.
Got to admit, I cannot tell Kira's lovers apart.

One boring ass episode I watched the other day had Kira & Shakaar and I'm like, "wait I thought he was dead." Took me most of the episode before I realized he and Bareil were different people.

This was a great ST episode though, provoking one to think about deep questions and leaving things up for debate. Not the best among those number, but a really solid member of the club.
Deep Space Nine, season 3, episode 14, Heart of Stone

This fucking episode. I don't like the A-plot with Kira and Odo and the magic growing vore crystal. But I love the B-plot with Nog trying to get into Starfleet. He really starts to become his own character in this episode and starts off on his journey of becoming one of the best Trek characters. Rom also develops a fair bit, which I like. But that fucking A-plot... it's the kind of shit Patrick Sean Tomlinson would come up with; which is to say it is total garbage. I wish this episode was all about Nog getting a letter of recommendation from Sisko.
Rewatching episodes like this really make you wish they had gone with SFDEBRIS idea of Kira being the one to pine after the asexual Odo. The only good part about their relationship were the times it gave Odo & Quark something to talk about.

Best part definitely Nog. RIP Aaron.

One of the things I find very annoying about certain Star Trek fans is how some of them view it as inherently communist. I guess it's easy for them to view it as such if you hyper focus on Star Trek: The Next Generation but honestly focusing on how Earth solved the problems of hunger, greed & war in Star Trek was never the point of the series and it shouldn't be.

The point was that it was accomplished and now we are focusing on what humanity did afterwards which is openly described in the opening narrations of the both The Original Series intro and TNG.

It's always been weird/fascinating to me how certain fandoms view and interpret the media they like regardless of the reasoning.

And even in Star Trek, what happened is Earth got bailed out by the Vulcans after WWIII.

Forgot this thread existed, but checking back in, since a few months ago I have finally finished DS9 and I absolutely adored it. Its a shame they don't make TV like that anymore

You've brought this up before in this thread but I feel as though some Trek fans are in denial about how bad the 21st century was according to the Star Trek lore. While I don't think that the real 21st century won't be as bad as that, it's still going to suck a lot. Then again, after what's been happening with the George Floyd "protests" and cancel culture I feel as though it might be.

Plus that paradise only seems to be Earth. All the rest of humanity are stuck with fucking xenos and dying of various plagues.

Otherwise I ignore those individuals. Because they are Communists.

The federation does have some elements of a communist society-it seems you don’t have to work for money, but at the same time there is social honor and recognition for achievement.

Whether that’s going into starfleet or medicine or tennis.

I’d say it’s more a post scarcity meritocracy. If you want to sit on your ass, you won’t starve but don’t expect any social recognition or accolades. After all getting into starfleet academy is repeatedly stated to be super hard. With challenging class work and high expectations.

Also should be noted Julian Bashir’s father seems to drift from job to job and is implied to not be very successful at anything he does. Sisko’s dad runs a successful Cajun restaurant, but not because he needs to eat but because he enjoys doing it.

And that paradise has made the Federation weak. Look what happened in the Dominion War. If it wasn't for black Bajoran jesus Earth would be glassed. These guys had the right idea:

My favorite part about this thread is that to an outsider we are speaking nonsense but we are doing so in incredible detail and with sources and images.

I mean, Los Angeles is already a dirty ghetto right on time. Steroid abuse has already been normalized for athletes, so roided-out super soldiers and kangaroo courts are on the way.
