What are you talking about? The Dominion didn't come up until season 2. And only mentioned in passing first in episode 7 before actually appearing on screen in episode 26.

They did have exploration episodes during those seasons and even some after the Dominion was introduced.
No no I mean like, once it became associated with the Dominion, suddenly it was "NO, NO FUN EXPLORATION ALLOWED. THIS IS ENEMY TERRITORY." Or else with the Bajorans it was ONLY "This is holy religious territory, none of us are curious about exploring space." I wish they had held off the Dominion plot a bit longer, given us time to explore the cool, fun side of what was beyond the wormhole.

And yeah, they did have some after the Dominion was introduced. I guess I just like the idea of exploring space. I wish they had some episodes where crazy space travelers passing through DS9 would ignore their warnings and explore Dominion space.

We had TNG and VOY for that. And frankly, not much effort was put into making the Delta Quadrant truly alien.

I have fond memories of "Shadowplay", where Odo interacts with a girl. At the end, he turns into a pot or something to amuse her. Then there's the episode where O'Brien yells at a cloud. His chemistry with Bashir saved that one from being a dud.

Eh, I dunno. It doesn't take a genius to see the 'planet of the week" episodes on DS9 are the weakest.

There's one major space battle versus EarthForce. There's a "war room". A lot of suspense and build-up. But ultimately, Sheridan talks the bad guys into submission. He's cut from the same cloth as Kirk and Picard.
John Nukem Sheridan was much closer to Kirk than Picard as he carried the nuclear boomstick and will use it if talking doesn't work. Plus there's not minor detail of him having a lot of heavily armed friends and allies willing and able to get violent when needed to.

He had the political acumen of Picard, which Kirk lacked.

I'm not trying to argue. That's just what I gather from interviews and the climate surrounding B5 at the time. They were defined by Trek as much as they were opposed to it.

choosing to not be a thing is still to be influenced by that thing
B5's hotblooded diplomacy was basically the best shit ever

At the start of his tenure, Sheridan has a line about how he was trained to run a starship, "not cities in space."

His Eisenhower-like demeanor has a drastic healing effect on the League, which is the main cause of unrest on Earth. (As a rule, politicians don't serve in war. )

Come to think of it, his closest analog is Riker, or at least the writers' intention for Riker. He even marries a low-key Troi. Except Delenn is the lynchpin to the story, whereas Troi is nerfed and has nothing to do.

The Delta Quadrant shouldn't be any more alien than any other part of space. Because M-class planets pop up everywhere and the progenitors put humanoid DNA throughout the galaxy, you get humanoid aliens everywhere. If you're just passing through at high warp, any local peculiarities will be quickly passed over. The only really different places might be the galactic core or the halo, maybe the space between the arms. I think Voyager did a single episode about passing through a void between the arms.

That was obliquely referenced in "Chimera." Such diversity on the station, Odo keens. Laas remarks thay they all have bumps on their heads. Odo deflates and says no more.

I think it was Sirtis who quipped, most "actors who audition" are "humanoid in shape."

Babylon 5 tried doing non-humanoid aliens but cost killed that off quick.

Back to Star Trek, TNG: Force of Nature episode was where the Star Trek writers started fucking with warp drives. With warp travel damaging and destroying subspace cause the writers had to sneak in an unsubtle AF eco message into the franchise.

Kind of funny: TOS is lauded for its after-school messages. But TNG fumbled them all. The one where Troi gets raped is especially bad. Why would Jev decide to physically molest Troi when he'd gotten away with mind rape for so long? He makes a stupid mistake at the end so that Picard can condemn rape.

My read on dukat and Kira is that he wanted the satisfaction of “winning” her to his side. If he could get his nemesis, resistance fighter Kira Nerys to fall for him, than he would be loved by the Bajorans. Dukat always had an odd complex of hating the bajorans and wanting their affection.

I agree she’s super bitchy in the early seasons but by season five to the end she’s bearable. If still bitchy.

Yeah. Dukat outright says this is his philosophy to Weyon.

Yep. Dukat wants Kira to fall into his arms and shout “I was so wrong to hate you, you really are the best thing since the prophets first spoke to my people”

He needs that validation, unlike Garak who doesn’t have an ego or Weyoun who acts out of devotion to the founders, dukat has an emotional need to be acknowledged, validated, and supported.

It’s made so obvious in Waltz-Dukat is outright begging sisko almost to just tell him he was right, he was good, he made the right calls, and sisko refuses to give him that satisfaction. So he beats sisko senseless after that.

Did that happen? I thought that the Mitt Romney lookalike only mind-raped her.

He fucked her mother, right? That probably made him want Nerys also as a notch on his belt. Kind of like if you were dating a twin, "God, I wish I could nail them both somehow" would probably cross your mind.

I don't know what to think of Kira, Something abominable happened to Nana Visitor IRL and I can't help feel like it changed her performance a bit.

Discovery is back. They did much of earth a great service by removing it from Netflix.

Man, that was horrible.

Also, I didn't think there was enough food in the galaxy for Tilly to get that large.
I'm waiting for the inevitable... "Captain, we've found the source of that gravitational anomaly, it's coming from inside the ship."

He did, there was that episode where Kira, Odo, and Garak get sent back in time to the occupation and it's shown that Kira's mother was one of Dukat's concubines.
If we're on the topic of Mothers, I think I'm one of the very few people who actually liked the episodes where Lwaxana Troi shows up.
I loved that she always able to get under the skin of the usually stoic Piccard. Not all of her episodes are winners, but it's always fun seeing personal drama thrown into a 'Monster of the Week' series.

She'll rep a weight loss company, get publicity for it, rake in some dough, then when she loses publicity she'll get fat all over again. It's pretty much Kirstie Alley's 'job' these days.

Her pairing with Odo is inspired. The DS9 crossovers with Lwaxana are 10x better than the lackluster Q on VOY.
