Yeah, bad news about Event Horizon: the developer's not having a good day.
As someone who has followed this guy for a long time he is absolutely an obsessive autistic weirdo who is way too emotionally wrapped up in the fanbase and IP. It was genuinely pathetic to see him do an entire cope stream about how sad he was, and several Xitter posts about how "The Starfox Fandom doesn't agree with me in whole, boo hoo hoo" and basically threatening to take his ball and go home.

Special mention to how in his stream he said he "didn't know Gafford (the fox in space guy) like I thought I did." Because he seemed vaguely interested in the game.
He's working on not only bringing the neglected parts of Star Fox out and up to modern standards, but also intends to do something original once he's wrapped up everything to Assault.
If the guy wants to steal someone else's IP and make a glorified fanfiction for it and dedicated 20 years of his life to it then more power to him but he isn't really bringing attention to shit, and it's pretty intensely hypocritical of him to whine since he ALSO remade 64 in his project.

It's the same sorta parasocial investment that a lot of Zeldafags have where they pour so much of themselves into an IP that they don't own and that Nintendo clearly doesn't value beyond making a fun toy for kids to play with now and again and it destroys them mentally.

I thought it was pretty pathetic when he was sperging about Fox in the movie being "too cocky" and "not muh Fox" and it's like, the dude hasnt had a consistent personality in any game, big surprise.

Also, he shits on Assault relentlessly which was the last game in the series to try totally new shit. Why would Nintendo bother with anything other than 64 over and over if the reaction to the last real progressive game in the franchise was shit on so hard it was considered an embarrassment internally?

Still falls under "ugly 3d for a character that already has good 3d representation".
Star Fox never had a distinctive or even consistent art style to begin with its why the reaction doesn't make sense because most people familiarity with the cast is through Smash which was a huge departure from how he was originally portrayed. Its best to say that the franchise never had particularly good 3D representation within its own franchise, no Smash doesn't count because that's more an amalgamation of elements from various installments on top of Sakurai's OC autism.

This post really hit close to home for me. Not because I disagree with anything you said, but rather because what you said here is objectively true and it put me through some rather difficult self-reflection. I'll admit that I've had a very similar parasocial investment in this franchise as the Event Horizon guy for a long time now, and that most people here don't and never will care about these sorts of things to the same autistic degree that I do. This whole time I've been subconsciously aware that my dissatisfaction with the current direction of Star Fox is largely a hell of my own making, and to say that's a tough pill to swallow would be a massive understatement. I don't blame anyone here for not feeling as strongly about any of this as I do, I just hoped to get at least a little bit of sympathy while screaming into the void. That's about all I have to say for now. If you took the time to read this, I would like to say thank you and that it means a lot to me. :heart-full:

A lot of people are wondering if they're gonna use the new realistic designs in a hypothetical Smash Bros 6. I'm more curious about how they're going to handle the movesets going forward. Fox can stay as he is (since some of his moves are loosely based on the Arwing from 64/Lylat wars), and if Krystal's added, she'd fight like Fox does in Adventures. Question is, if they add Falco or Wolf, would they be semi-clones of Fox like before, or would Sakurai use his brain and re-work their moveset?

If it's the latter, then an easy way to do it would be to take inspiration from Assault. That game had a good few weapons to pick from.

There was like a 6-7 year gap between the first and second episode, and it hasn't even been half that time since the second one was posted

IT WILL BE OUT WHEN ITS OUT, and we like that
That's because episode 1 and 2 had a massive software change. Originally it was animated in some other software, but Fred switched to Blender.

Honestly deciding too go all out in an over 40 minute episode (mostly) by himself for an internet cartoon is the main reason it took so long. But yeah he did learn blender basically from scratch right after finishing the first episode

Iirc he mostly drew the frames in Adobe Illustrator for the first episode. Yes Illustrator, not Animate/Flash. He definitely goes about the process in a strange way but it works for the most part

It definitely has a unique and unmistakable style. Which is one of its greatest strengths.

I think it is just important to realize that it is okay to like something, it's okay to be a fan of something, but you need to be able to divorce your real life mental state from whatever franchise you have a close attachment to and realize that the people who hold the key to that thing are also probably super retarded and don't really care if it appeals to you or not.

The fact that the Event Horizon guy has sank 15 years of his life into a fan project isn't really something to be proud of. He made it work as a job via Patreon and shit, but I dont think any person is ever well served working to prop up somebody else's work when that effort could be spent making your own work where the care and effort you put in can actually be beneficial to you directly.

Gafford at least plans to take what he has learned and apply it to his own work sometime in the future. I think when the Starfox well runs dry the EH guy is pretty much screwed. If anything, he should be glad Nintendo is shooting itself in the foot, it makes his own weird decisions slightly more palatable.

I suspect that the remake has intentionally ugly models, especially some of the girls, because of the whole "we can't have things that men like anymore" idea. That, or I don't get why the cat looks like she became an addict BEFORE joining a gang, and why Falco looks like a crossdresser.
I suppose that Krystal, once she shows up in a future title, will settle things for good. Or maybe they'll change the art style again.

EH is still at risk of being C&D'ed. I have no idea how the A Fox in Space guys get away with it so far.

Also, fun fact: In 10+ years, AFS got 2 episodes, while the Sonic Satam fan-Season 3 guys have fuck-all to show after so long.

I guess the former are slightly less autistic? Or maybe more so?

Interestingly enough he seems to be somewhat self aware about the opinion thing since he said that he feels that in the modern day people get too upset when they encounter different opinions while back when he was younger people in his family just casually made fun about each others hobbies without getting mad.
Interestingly enough he refused to talk about his opinion towards the Mario Galaxy movie for some time until he got pressured to say something and even then he danced around the subject for some time since he was apparently convinced that people would get angry at him, which seemingly stems mostly from people being mad at him for disliking the new Zelda games, though the fact that he complains so much about stuff he dislikes that even the TvTropes page mentions his hour long rants probably didn't help.

He actually has plans to produce his own strategy game called Sigma when EH is done, though I guess we have to see how successfull it will be if he actually gets there.

This is some genuinely good advice and I appreciate that you took the time to write it all out. After thinking about it a bit, I've realized that I'm actually better off currently than I've been making it sound in my posts here. Unlike the Event Horizon guy, my Star Fox fan-writing is merely one of several creative pursuits I've been working on in tandem with each other in my free time. I work a day job IRL, which means I'm not financially dependent upon any of my creative works and can pursue them at my leisure without having to worry too much. My posts here have sounded incredibly doomer-ish, but I'm actually doing quite well, all things considered.
