I made this thread to talk about sports games, and if you love them or hate them, discuss every game ranging from Madden to NBA 2K and beyond.

Not my cup of tea, I did enjoy Mario Kart, but that's stretching the genre.

Oh yeah, I remember when my aunt owned the Wii Fit which I played a lot of, how about that? It's more sports than most other games (because you move yourself).

Only sports games I actually played in my lifetime. I remember the music for both being spot-on, but that's about it.

6th gen Madden games are pretty good. No DLC, fun gameplay, lots of extra content and modes, and impressive visuals that still hold up. Also Mario sports games were always killer, especially 3 on 3 for DS, Superstar Baseball and Strikers
On the negative side, I tried out Blood Bowl because I thought it was going to be a gory football game like Blitz the League, turns out it was a shitty board/roleplaying game

Only sports games I care for are skateboarding games. Prefer the Tony Hawk Pro Skater style. I hate these attempts at simulating skateboarding that make fighting game combos look less autistic. I could dig a my old board out and break my legs if I wanted to skateboard for real.

To this day, 6th gen football games have roster updates. There’s even a total overhaul for NCAA 2006 that updates the game to be more modern.

I played a few sports games on the Genesis back in the day. RBI Baseball 4, College Football's National Championship, NCAA Football, NHL 1996 and Mutant League Football are all titles that I have very fond memories of. I also spent a TON of money playing NBA Jam in the arcades back then, just like everybody else.

Harry Potter quidditch World Cup was the best sports game ever made. I won’t be elaborating. Thank you.

It is far from perfect, but I have been plying a ton of College Football 25 on Xbox since launch. There is nothing like Dynasty mode. But it’s clear that the devs leaned pretty hard on AI and H1B tier “talent” when programming this game. Every patch broke something else for months. That said, it’s the best sports game this generation IMO and I’m looking forward to CFB 26.

Like everything they've gotten worse over time. And I think there's more fun to be had in arcade style games over simulation autism.

Some favorites:
NBA Street Vol 2
Mario Tennis
Tony Hawk (all of them, including the Activision O₂ lineup, aka Mat Hoffman, Kelly Slater etc.)
California games

I've been playing THPS 3 recently. I must have used cheats back in the day because it's more ball-breaking than I remember. Some of the OST comes off as FUCK YOU DAD IT'S NOT A PHASE. This isn't a point against it - obviously a skating game is going to be aimed at teenagers - it's just funny looking back.

The game becomes laughably easy once you master chaining boneless + flip trick + grab trick + revert + manual + ... unending million point combos.

(Z-Axis) Skate And Destoy / Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX, now that I would qualify as ball-breaking.

Much like your Tony Hawk example, the trick to Thrasher is finding the spot that lets you do big flip trick + grind + flip trick + grind etc. You can replace the initial flip trick with fs/bs kickflip/heelflip once you unlock them. Do the initial trick over a gap or something and you'll rake in the points.

I never played Dave Mirra but I had BMX XXX and that game is just dogshit.

Mario Tennis, NBA Jam, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 are good. Mario Golf looks fun but I'm too retarded to play it well. Some of the old N64 wrestling games are good.

Oh, Wii Sports was fun.

That's just the kind of music that was popular with skaters at the time.

That was originally going to be a Dave Miura game. He didn't want his name associated with that.
Oh, Wii Sports was fun.
I liked the boxing minigame.

Fifth generation wrestling games were something else. I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. They all had unique features. I'm not even a wrestling guy and still put many many hours into all of them.

And I don't know if you could classify it as a sports or golf game, but this thread made me think of Sid Meier's SimGolf. Genuinely one of the best games of all time.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4
Total crap compared to the previous three. That game made it obvious that Neversoft ran out of ideas on their Tony Hawk formula. Thankfully, they came up with Underground which was amazing (sadly, they then released that utter garbage that was Underground 2 and even though American Wasteland was ok, they never recovered)

Best sports titles:
ISS Deluxe
Super Sidekicks 3
Nintendo World Cup
Nekketsu Kōkō Dodgeball Bu: MD Soccer Hen
FIFA Street (the 360/PS3 version)
Ike Ike! Nekketsu Hockey Bu: Subette Koronde Dairantō
Super Blood Hockey
NHL Hitz Pro
NHL Rock the Rink
Windjammers (such a shame the sequel is crap)
Nekketsu! Street Basketball: All-Out Dunk Heroes (because 3 basketball hoops atop of each other is that much more awesome than a regular single basket)
NBA Street 2 and 3 (and i will forever wonder how they screwed up Homecourt so bad, it has nothing to do with NBA Street even...)
Street Hoop
Blitz the League 2 (american handegg sucks but those injuries...lmao!)
Mutant Football League (see above, just traps, gore and pure, violent carnage)
Super Slam Dunk Touchdown (why only play one sport, when you can combine football, hockey, handegg, roller derby, basketball and baseball all into one?)
Aggressive Inline (the only game to actually rivals Tony Hawk)
Skate 3
SSX 3 and the 360/PS3 follow up
Ski or Die! (PC version, the others are inferior)
Rocket League (microtransaction shit or not, once you figure out all the advanced tricks and mechanics, it's a ton of fun)
Fire Pro Wrestling, especially Returns and World. Fuck all those mediocred licensed games, they suck in comparison
