NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Why do they have to do this to my Supergirl!???!

I've been wanting to get into the Judge Dredd comics for quite some time, but given that the character's been around for literal decades and has actual continuity for the most part (in that he actually ages through the years) I've always found it a bit daunting. What's a good point to just jump into? Any good starting arcs or anything like that? Or is it best to start at the beginning?

My experience with him is very limited and I know him mostly from internet memes and two movies, but I have read America (https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/XB320) and found it easy to follow and understand. Core America story was solid from what I remember, but two related stories were not very good.

There is also new edition of this collection (https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/GRN687) that collects different related stories than the one I have read so I'd probably recommend this edition.

2000 AD has been publishing omnibuses called the Complete Case Files, which are probably the best way to read the stories. You can start at volume 1, but I think Volume 5 is considered the best place to start for newcomers. I second the recommendation for America, as that is one of the best Dredd stories ever. IDW has been doing their own Judge Dredd stories, but what I've read is not nearly as good as the 2000 AD stories.

Speaking about IDW I was thinking about picking up their Judge Death since as I understand it is a coloured reprint of 2000AD originals? Or is it better to track down black/white originals?

Morisson's The Green Lantern was so good, I'm actually pretty bummed that it's over. You can tell he was pretty pissed off with the management at DC in those last few issues though, so I don't know how many stories like that we'll be seeing. At least Sharp is coming back with Ennis this summer, so that's somehting to look forward to.

It was refreshing to see a Lantern comic which wasn't just the Green Lanterns fighting a bunch of recolours. There's so much potential for creativity in a Lantern story, with all the crazy aliens and the literal unlimited power to create any construct imaginable, but 90% of the time it seems to boil down to 'make a speech about willpower and then hit the bad guy with a giant green fist/baseball bat/plane'.

Seeing Hal on his own as a sort of detatched figure was really effective, I thought. Since he's distanced himself from the corps and doesn't really fit in on earth anymore, it'll be interesting to see where he goes next. There definitely an oppoutunity there for some wacky space adventures without having to deal with lantern nonsense.

I have yet to read the last issue, but The Green Lantern might be seriously one of the most underrated books to have come out in the last decade. Since they want to put Hal on the shelf, this is the last ride he deserves, his own All-Star Green Lantern.

I can't wait for Sharp's Batman book, He is the perfect fit for the character and the magazine sized book is exactly what his art deserves.

I think he'll still be around now and then, but you can tell that they want to diminish his role. I think that was handled very well in issue 11, although he also got a pretty great sendoff in Spectre the last time they tried to retire him, and that didn't stick in the long run.

Knowing the way that comics are he'll probably be back at the front in a few years, given that I doubt this lineup shuffle is going to have much long-term success in boosting readership. I guess it depends on how much crossover there is between the cinematic/tv audience and the comic-book audience.

Honestly, if Hal isn't around then I don't think I'll read the new lantern books. All the new characters are just very... I dunno, self consciously badass? Maybe if they focused more on the non-human lanterns I'd be more interested. It seems like a waste to have a whole corps of lantern from all over the universe, and then only focus on the humans.

You can tell that the writers really want you to take these new guys seriously, but it's always gonna be undermined by how popular Hal was, and the fact that he's been explicitely stated to be the best that a lantern could be.

I think he threw shit at literally everyone. Some stuff looked like direct jabs at Snyder for his Batman Who Laughs nonsense and it is very likely that Young Guardians are supposed to be new writers in general, what with them talking about collectivism and wanting to focus on non-white Lanterns.

Kinda funny when you think about it. Grant comes out as non-binary and then shits on entire modern USA comics industry. I'm sure that some retarded SJW is taking that as a win.

The shit-slinging was so blatant, I was a little suprised that he got away with it. The series was pratically a love letter to classic Lantern with all the references to Hard Travelin' Heroes and whatnot, so I guess it makes sense that Morisson wouldn't like the new direction. He's got enough clout in the industry that at this point he can pretty much say what he wants. He's always been nuts so the NB thing isn't really surprising.

It's a shame that the series wasn't more popular. His writing and Sharp's art were made for one another.

I always got the impression that Didio loved Morrison's work so I wouldn't be surprised if he green lighted this run and after he was fired other guys didn't catch up to what exactly Morrison was doing here.

Oh god no. If King's other DC stuff is anything to go by, this is going to absolutely ruin all Kara's supporting cast and probably piss off a lot of people by treating the character like shit. Great. Like we needed more trash after Death Metal and Future State.

On a more positive note, I had some time over lunch to read this week's issue of Nightwing. I enjoyed it. It had some really touching moments without feeling too forced. I like how Tom Taylor used Alfred in this, he really hit that family feel that I always got off of Alfred and Dick's relationship. I also really like how Taylor writes Dick, he's got this underlying optimism to him and reminds me of how Tim Seeley wrote him back in Grayson. What I didn't like however is how he writes Batgirl. She came off as overly bitchy and mean for someone who's supposed to be really close with Dick. Like he was clearly trying to write something along the lines of "see how close they are? Look at the family style banter!" but it went just far enough for me that it read more like Babs being passive aggressive than it did banter between people who have been close for years. I don't know how to describe it besides that, she just felt a bit out of character to me. Also I have no clue if that flashback in the beginning is retelling something we've seen before or if it's a retcon, but I really don't think having it so that Dick met Babs before she was Batgirl is really needed.

i hate to say it, but

between Tom King and the Dangerhair Crowd. I'd pick up a Tom King book because he often gets decent artists.

I pirate in minecraft.

Honestly I don't think I'd pick up either. Tom King writing a book is as much of a red flag as the Dangerhair Crowd and all the other trash in this industry. As someone who doesn't have the best mental health at times, a lot of Tom King's recent work has been pretty fucking offensive to me. Besides just the terrible writing and character assassination, his work paints people who deal with mental illness in a pretty bad light. The Dangerhairs go too far in the other direction and try to be so inclusive that they just write pandering garbage that wants to preach at me about how shitty I am for being white, male AND straight. Lets just say that there's a reason I only buy trades.

You're right though, they do tend to put pretty decent artists on King's books.
