Three reasons.

First, using a gay character that exists doesn't earn you applause anymore. They get credit for making a straight character gay. Second, Green Lantern is a name 'people' recognize. When James Robinson took a character he didn't create and disrespected seventy plus years of history, he got tons of puff pieces praising him for 'making green lantern gay'. Third, it's about taking something away. You liked straight Green Lantern. You bad person you. Well, he's gay now. How do you like that?



DC characters should be heroes. I absolutely agree with you.

it's honestly not that big of a deal if you just turn Alan Scott into a maybe Bisexual like DC's implied they're going to do since they've shown Jade/Obsidian in the end of doomsday clock and all that.

Now if they turn him into a full on homosexual? THat'd break too much in the mainstream. Maybe leave the New 52 Earth 2 as its own thing in a backup.

In the Nu52, the JSA were on Earth 2, and much, much younger. So Alan was not old enough to be the father of Jade and Obsidian, two kids in their twenties.

So making Alan gay was a substitute for his gay son Obsidian not existing in canon anymore.

Yeah I don't really care about n52 Earth 2 since it was a really weird mess.

Enjoyable at times but dragged on.

She's seen as having made a sacrifice at the end of the current dark knights death metal event. This is entirely in character for her. I just hope that Yera Flor at least isn't written horribly. We've seen Donna step into the mantle as well as Artemis and they're pretty much Amazons. It'll be interesting seeing a more normal person step in if they're written decently imo.

Oh for sure. The Mary Sue remark was a little harsh, I got nothing against him in particular. He's a guy with a cool mask and a trench coat who shoots people, you can do plenty with that. It's just that the homicidal psycho punk-rock Sorayama illustration is a lot more fun.

It bums me out that the industry has had to un-person Warren Ellis and forget all his stuff existed, because I thought there was a lot of mileage still to be gotten out of his Wildstorm reboot. His take on the WildCATs was fun, and the groundwork he laid down for a new Gen13 could have gone somewhere REALLY cool.

At least the idea of the venom symbiote being corrupted and, once restored, essentially allowing hosts orbital reentry capabilities on top of what we already know was interesting and didn't undo something worthwhile.

I didn't dig too deeply into it when it was a big story, just because that stuff tires me out. My read from what I did pick up is that while he didn't do anything quite criminal, he did cross a lot of lines with women he worked with over the years.

I mean, the guy never hid the fact that he was an asshole. It was half the reason he got so popular among internet fans in the 90s and 00s. He had that very British knack for being a vicious prick that can be fun to watch from a distance. But I have no trouble believing that dealing with him personally was the shits.

Knull isn't a bad idea at all.

This is a theory but I'm guessing the symbiotes are attuned to the element of darkness and given Knull being a god of darkness, he can make them do whatever. It's a copout but hey he's not just a symbiote god, but a fucking buildup that we've been waiting for a while.

Rod Espinosa's characters suck. The way they talk, the way they act, is so god damn flat, limpid and lifeless it's like watching embalmed zombies. His artstyle can be described as anime but with all the energy sucked out of it. It hasn't improved since his earliest works. I tried to read Neotopia, and my mind just went on autopilot.

Speaking of comic people getting metoo'd, there was one guy I remember it happening to - Nathan Edmondson. He was doing a pretty good Punisher run but then everyone dropped him once the accusation came up. Upon going to look it up, however, I could barely find anything on it now; I'm guessing he sued the fuck out of someone which made everyone else drop the story.

Totally fair reaction. For my part I got a laugh out of things like Zealot re-envisioned as someone with a normal haircut who wore pants, but that's me.

HBO/AMC type "prestige" TV is a good comparison. It definitely had a TV season kind of pacing, which made it annoying to read month to month sometimes.

They already mostly don't sell for shit. Alex de Campi embezzled funds away from one prominent creator she worked with in the past and fled the fucking country, but she's still around. This industry has long stopped concerning themselves with operating like a real business.

Troon Ross/Sophie Campbell and Becky Cloonan have put out some okay/decent artwork. As a colorist, troon lunatic Tamara Bonvillain and Alex De Campo are decent.

Gail hasn't written anything genuinely good. At most she has mediocre Birds of Prey/Secret Six that are over praised and barely passable.

What is so galling is that none of these 'women' are notably good at what they do. They have contemporaries, some of them women but most men, who are far better than them at art, writing, color et al. These people would have produced better work.

Gail is the prototype whisperer. She got her job by pulling the Al Sharpton shake down. Step 1, accuse a business of being bad. Step 2, let it be known you can help them with their image problem. (A problem you created). Step 3, make money off of a corporation for doing nothing but cleaning up the mess you made.
