That said, the smug bullshit of people white knighting Magneto and how they've since had Xavier go evil via Krakoa and embrace Magneto's evil mutant belief structure
You know what, Imma say it: I like the Krakoa bullshit. Not every book, but the core story, and the books by Spurrier, Ewing, and Gillen have been good. And keep in mind I usually hate these people (except Spurrier).

You know, we have a problem these days with insufferable POC replacement characters and whatnot. You know the best example? Steel, I reread Reign of the Supermen and he is the best character in that entire story.

I know he’s the only one to not claim to be the “new Superman” and not a “true replacement” due to the nature of that story.

But still, point stands that he’s a good guy, respects the legacy, gets along with his predecessor and isn’t just palate swap.

Plus they do the “Dillon you son of a bitch” gesture and it works. It’s a shame he will forever be tarnished by a shitty movie.

I think people's problem with Cyclops/Emma Frost was less to do with Jean Grey and more to do with pissed-off Emma Frost fans who hated the sudden personality change she got after shacking up with Cyclops and random bullshit like her suddenly talking like a posh British bimbo.
I preferred Emma after she joined the X-Men and started fucking Cyclops. The whole put-on British accent makes sense for her character, because the rich people like her did that shit, and even Madonna was doing that too at the time. (BITCH YOU ARE FROM FUCKING DETROIT. STOP IT).

She got to shine as the fabulous bitch that my fellow comic fags love, and Scott removed that stick up his ass.

honestly, Steel was and always has been a bit of a cult favorite. I just wish we had a scene where he got to meet the retroactively inserted Commander Steel.

Disagree about that. Scott cheating on Jean only made Scott an even BIGGER douchebag and Morrison making Jean give deathbed permission for Scott to fuck Emma was up there with Marvel making Maddie a would be child murderess to justify (again) Scott being a horrible human being. And even later writers ran with this, as one of the central themes for Emma/Scott was watching Emma react in shock and horror at how being with her brought out Scott's worst attributes and the fact that everyone around Scott had to work overtime (as seen with Rogue and Second Coming) to basically cover for Scott's fucked up leadership; which culminated in AvX Scott and trying to force Hope to become Dark Phoenix just so he could use Dark Phoenix as a weapon against humanity, knowing damn well that it would end in the bulk of the human population dying and mutantkind being sent to death camps in retaliation.
I still to this day have no idea why people like Cyclops during his rebel phase. Worse was when Gillen (I don't understand how RC Cola Grant Morrison has fans) just had the X-Men be morally dubious assholes with newer villains being beyond cartoonish so he could justify them letting all of their former enemies in sans a few who were dead or were the token bad ones (i.e. the X-Men editors couldn't use them). The entire San Francisco era was just making Cyclops into Batman and the X-Men always doing something that would damn them, but the consequences never happen.

Emma is from New England and the New England Gentry does have really odd accents. I like how her entire character is leeching onto a high status male and adopting his personality, but she kinda is living her childhood dream with Scott so she can't move on. I just wish Firestar or someone else would break her arm in diamond form and scare the shit out of her again. She never actually became a good guy, a worse guy just out smarted her and the X-Men started circling wagons.

Steel was the guy in the Reign of Supermen who wanted to be the guy helping people. Each Superman during that time was attempting to fill a role. Superboy wanted the fame, the alien robot wanted the authority, and Cyborg Superman wanted the respect to ultimately tarnish it. I think Steel also worked because he literally was just a very on the nose John Henry reference with him being the only human competing against artificial creations to replace the old.

There was an instance where her arm got snapped off in diamond form, and she was terrified of reverting to human form lest she bleed to death, but she eventually got the arm "welded" back on and was able to eventually turn back to flesh after a period of healing.

Speaking of Emma and Firestar, the "Devil's Reign: X-Men" crossover involved Emma's past dealings with Kingpin coming to bite her on the ass, and the mini-series would bring up up how Emma murdered Butter Rum, a pony that Firestar grew attached to waaaaayyy back when Emma was grooming Angelica to be an assassin for the Hellfire Club in the 80s Firestar mini-series.

Nah, I mean in a sense where Emma uses the diamond form to posture (because she has super strength or something in that form, but no telepathy) and someone just breaks the thing. I'm pretty sure that was Gillen's gay Sinister who did that when he made San Francisco slightly straighter by making everyone a gay Victorian man. Also, I really doubt it bit her in the ass and imagine that event literally washed her of sins by being a good guy all along.

Regarding Emma: she actually did reform and mellow out in Generation X; it was only when Morrison took over that Emma got regressed back HARD to her old status quo of being a cunt. Though you could handwave being one of the few survivors of the destruction of Genosha (and potentially being mindraped by Cassandra Nova, if you take THAT scene Whedon's run as canon) for her personality reset.

That said, she definitely was the good cop to Scott's bad cop during the Utopia period as far as "why did I have to fall in love with Scott Summers?" becoming more of a cryptic bit of foreshadowing towards how many messes Scott made that Emma had to help clean up.

(As for Firestar; they've only really had her confront Emma once since Emma turned good and that was in the final issue of Young Allies written by Sean McKeaver and it was IIRC, more or less Emma being a bitch to Firestar demanding she move to Utopia and telepathically mocking her while she was on patrol nonstop to force her to meet with her a second time after rejecting Emma's "offer" the first time; Firestar promptly blasted Emma with a fire blast only to discover Emma's diamond form powers and then tell Emma to fuck off again. Which was kind of shocking given how much Marvel shills Emma plus the way Marvel upped the character assassination on Firestar after Busiek raped her and Justice in Avengers, by having Firestar literally tell Vance she wants to ride the cock carousal rather than enter into a young persons marriage with Vance like Vance wanted and later revealing to him at an Avengers Academy dance that after she broke up with Vance, she made good on the pledge to be a cock whore and caused Vance to have a public scene where he called her a whore and revealed to everyone at Avengers Academy that he was still a virgin, partly because Firestar kept cockblocking him their entire relationship by claiming "she was saving herself for marriage".)

Also, I'll add that of all of the SJW types who creamed their pants towards Scott during the Rightclops period, are the same people who cheered and shared the gif of Richard Spencer being punched, even though Rightclops was basically mutant Richard Spencer minus the random growing of a mustache Richard engaged in.

As for Steel; I like the character but him having the name "Steel" kind fucked over the JLA Detroit era Steel (a white college age male who was turned against his will into a cyborg by his crazy pants super hero turned villain grandfather) ever being allowed to make a comeback. Even though him and Vixen were the only two good additions to the JLA during the Detroit period.

Gen X still had Emma brainwashing kids for her own purposes until her sister started outclassing her and then she straight up shot her sister. I'm still not even sure what Rightclops was right about. It's just chanted that he was right about something where I'm not sure what fans, writers and editors, or the character in-universe means. I never saw why people liked Morrison's run. It just seemed like Morrisonfags and fanboys talk it up about redefining the X-Men when his shit didn't really redefine anything.
Whedon started the horrible trend where the X-Men are heroes solely for publicity and their image and then beat some villain before another group does. The the entire rest of the the series is them being up their own ass.

Busiek is another weirdo who upped the stakes like Mark Millar did and then he went crazy in Indie comics with Astro City, which I never understood why people liked.

To be fair, Superboy was created to be the "new" Superman had the cloned Newsboy Legion not prematurely freed him from the tube. I always liked him and Steel, who both carved a niche in the Superman mythos. I feel robbed that Conner never got to be a big brother to Jon.

His downfall came due to the late 90s/early 00s rivalry between Batman editors and pretty much EVERYONE ELSE at DC; where they declared that all Batman characters had to act haughty and arrogant and basically treat every non-Batman character as "beneath them" due to the Batman editors being pissy that they had to play nice and let other writers/editors use their characters.
Which is why it was satisfying to see Wally West mouth off to him in Flash and Hal Jordan punch him in Green Lantern: Rebirth. Bats had it coming for a long time.

The early Astro City stuff from the late 90s was good, but got worse as the years wore on.

Astro City is fine-ish, but it's declined. I think it's been slipping after the whole thing with the Dark Years or w/e that Astro City series was called. The Dark Ages?

Anyways The more modern Astro City stuff is ok, but I just want them to finish the whole story about the Glamorax/etc. entity, Broken Man, and whatever eldritch horror is the big villain.

Tim Drake as Robin was basically Spider-Man without superpowers and the constant life lessons after fucking up because DC was fucking allergic to making Tim anything other than a borderline perfect know-it-all. I have no idea how the fuck he even became popular, every comic I've ever read with the guy makes me wish for a random mook to blow his brains out over a brick wall. His appearance directly led to the flanderization of Dick Grayson's character to make Tim "the smart guy" and I take an immense amount of joy in knowing that he has become an increasingly irrelevant footnote after Damian Wayne's introduction.
I wouldn't go that far it's just that he's pure whitebread. In Robin his biggest villains are a D-lister like Cluemaster and a snotty war obsessed 10 yr old which means that the superhero side is generally uninteresting if they're not their and Tim's civilian life is a complete fucking snooze because the 'superheroing is fucking with regular life' aspect is lost since Dixon completely brushes over it. The girlfriend Ariana is in 40 fucking issues but remained a complete non character. Young Justice completely fell apart post SoY so while the constant bitching about normalcy was annoying it's wasn't any worse than anything else going on.
It's in TT where Geoff Johns tried to typify Tim as 'the smartest ever' ignoring his actual bland nice guy character which led to him becoming insufferable because every other character had to drop a few iq points to make it work while Tim was a smug prick.
Then new52 destroyed the character snd he's never recovered since.

Thats how I feel about Hickmanvengers. The only unique thing he did was add terrible charts.

Speaking of Morrison, one of the funniest things about him is how all his complaints regarding modern comics is just shit he did to great sucess. Ditching the spandex for 'cool contemporary outfits?' Morrison. 'Writing a Batman story that's just the villain trying to fuck with Batman?' Morrison. 'Increasingly bizarre powercreeped villains from random new universe's?' All Morrison. I say this as a fan but the fact that he complains incessantly without a shred awareness is hilarious.

Astro City went downhill pretty fast, and the new age woke veneer isn't helping.

Still, it has a lot of great ideas.

There's no payoff with Hickman. It's like reading a comic where you're told cool shit happens rather then seeing it. All of his shit is that and scifi bullshit. I don't get what people like from him besides stories that blueball people with time travel bullshit. Time travel is a godawful story device and only works in shit like the original Terminator that addresses it's stupidity.

hickman came so close to being satisfying with the whole saga he had at marvel that ended with 2015s Secret Wars.

Nothing cool actually happened beyond anti-climax. He time skipped around anything actually interesting and anything actually cool was just "All according to keikaku" without any build up or asspulls that just boil down to "But the multi-dimensional anti-god can warp reality harder!" without any of the details to make that cool.

Speaking of Hickman's Avengers, have you lads read the Illuminated Comics' parody? Not only the guy edited the original into a really funny parody, he improved the story.

Unfortunately, most of the links to her stuff are dead if you want to download and not have to go through Tumblr's abhorrent interface.
