Probably the best example of the Genesis' sound capabilities. Well, the most stereotypical one at least.

"Wild Theme" from Local Hero, by Mark Knopfler.

""Going Home" from Local Hero, live.

"Going Home" in Edinburgh Tattoo 2014

The same theme covered by Hong Kong singer Samantha Lam. The song is called "Along the Waves"

With the wind, with the flowing water
Drifting, drifting.
I enter an infinite space.

I slide along with the wind
In this tiny frigate of mine.
The boat breaks the waves
The wild geese accompany me in formation.

You ask me what my dream is
Is it something inane and empty
It may be not as simple as I first thought
But I'll look wherever my whim takes me.

Along the waves I'll witness the brightest and the darkest of this world.
To find a beach as pretty as a painting
To discover all the secrets on this planet
And keep every vision in my heart

Along the waves I'll reach the edges of the world
But one day I'll return with the waves
An outlandish souvenir I will bear you.
Sparks of joy will be mine for life.

The theme from a 1990s Japanese TV series "Tokyo Elevator Girl", by Tadashi Namba.

Dude, there’s a few soundtracks I’ve gone out of my way to dig in gaming franchises. But I’ll share a few of the ones in recent years that sound fucking awesome. These themes will have the character name accredited to them; make sure as many were extended versions incase anyone wanted to listen for longer 😉

These of course are only a few tracks that I’ve listed from the 1990’s capcom games, never played them but the limitations of what the consoles could do in terms of sound make these arrangements good, certified classics.

May share more in future but apologies if any were already shared

Any song from the Fire Emblem games.

Road Taken always calms me. (At least this version.)

The battle theme gets me in the mood to fight.

The BioShock games.

Cohen's Masterpiece has piano playing that sounds like madness.

Welcome To Rapture

Will The Circle Be Unbroken (Choir)

All of the music in the original Sims game.

It was simple, yet fun to listen to. I honestly miss the original music.

Here is most of the music that I like from either Video Games or Film.

Really calming music for the main menu.

Really calming piece of music, the part at the end is the best though.

"By The Wall" soundtrack is great and relaxing and its nice to listen to it while you're solving a puzzle.

I never heard this soundtrack in the game. But its really nice shame it was never used in the game.

Overall the sound track for Machinarium is great. I highly recommend listen to the rest of the soundtrack and play the game too.

Really intense but also a really beautiful piece of music.

Really Calming and again beautiful soundtrack. I like the small detail that you can hear at the beginning , if you listen a bit closely.

Overall Indie Game: The Movie has the best soundtrack I think I've ever listened in a documentary, I recommend listening and watch the documentary if you're into game development.

Playdead's INSIDE doesn't really have an official soundtrack but the Shockwave level is really good its mostly an atmospheric soundtrack but I highly recommend listening to it.

That's enough for now. But I would like share more soundtracks that I like in the future. :)

Edward Artemiev - Meditation
From Stalker

Anger Foot has soundtrack that's mostly "hardstyle" (that's what someone in the comments calls it; I don't listen to this genre) and it sounds...

...mostly like this...

...which suits the fast paced run-n-gun-n-kick gameplay, but there's also "B-sides", which is made up of level interlude tracks. Composed by the same guy, but very different. Much slower and trippier and they're all great.

Not a single weak song on that playlist.

I have been absolutely obsessed with Stellar Blade's OST ever since I played it. To a lesser extent, I can say the same for Stranger of Paradise. And before those two, it was Code Vein's OST.

Stellar Blade's OST stands out to me the most because it's so so massive. It's almost 190 tracks, and I think it's close to 10 hours in total. Among those I think I have over a dozen I really like and that are on my driving / working out playlists.

Here are some tracks from SB I really like:
And some from Stranger of Paradise:
And a few from Code Vein:
Other than those OSTs, I also absolutely love the Metal Gear Solid Vocal Tracks album. Donna Burke's Sins of the Father track is so good!.. The Metal Gear Rising Revengeance soundtrack is also bloody amazing and way up there.

Honorary mention to Gothic 3's Vista Point too. Probably the most memorable ambient track in an RPG. It's so serene and relaxing...

Okay I lied, I have a few more things to mention:
  • First, Jarkko Rotsten's Ion Fury OST is sick. I used to listen to it quite often in past years.
  • Second, EYE Divine Cybermancy's OST (by Olivier Zuccaro) is pretty cool if you like dark ambient type tracks.
  • Third, something really fucking niche that you've probably never heard of, the GEARCRACK Arena OST. It was some 2d top down arena shooter game on Steam made by a fellow called Walter Machado, I think he made it to promote his music? I liked it quite a lot and has stuck with me. I don't think the games are available anymore for some reason, but his other games, Ubermosh, are available.
I didn't think this post would end up so damn big. I originally just wanted to sperg about Stellar Blade's OST, but thinking about it, there are quite a few soundtracks that have really stuck with me over the years. There are more but this post is already long enough.

Edit: Forgot one more honorary mention to a single track I really enjoy, the Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Menu Theme....

Edit 2: Saw @sodomy lifestyle post Diablo 1's Tristram theme above... Now I'm thinking I forgot to mention Starcraft 1 or Warcraft 2, but honestly posting about Blizzard's old OSTs feels like cheating, they were so good!... (And still are!)

Still with me 20 years later. GLA sound and art design make you almost want to convert to non-descript oriental terrorism.
