Thanks for the detailed information obtained by The Verge, today we confirm previously leaked details as Sony gears up to unveil the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro, codenamed "Trinity." According to insider reports, Sony is urging developers to optimize their games for the PS5 Pro, with a primary focus on enhancing ray tracing capabilities. The console is expected to feature an RDNA 3 GPU with 30 WGP running BVH8, capable of 33.5 TeraFLOPS of FP32 single-precision computing power, and a slightly quicker CPU running at 3.85 GHz, enabling it to render games with ray tracing enabled or achieve higher resolutions and frame rates in select titles. Sony anticipates GPU rendering on the PS5 Pro to be approximately 45 percent faster than the standard PlayStation 5. The PS5 Pro GPU will be larger and utilize faster system memory to bolster ray tracing performance, boasting up to three times the speed of the regular PS5.

Additionally, the console will employ a more powerful ray tracing architecture, backed by PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), allowing developers to leverage graphics features like ray tracing more extensively. To support this endeavor, Sony is providing developers with test kits, and all games submitted for certification from August onward must be compatible with the PS5 Pro. Insider Gaming, the first to report the full PS5 Pro specs, suggests a potential release during the 2024 holiday period. The PS5 Pro will also feature modifications for developers regarding system memory, with Sony increasing the memory bandwidth from 448 GB/s to 576 GB/s, enhancing efficiency for an even more immersive gaming experience. To do AI processing, there is an custom AI accelerator capable of 300 8-bit INT8 TOPS and 67 16-bit FP16 TeraFLOPS, in addition to ACV audio codec running up to 35% faster.

Not a significant improvement and is kind of pointless when your system has NO GAMES.

At a time when game developers are collapsing due to runaway costs, now’s the time to introduce an even more powerful console so budgets can be even higher so you can pay several people full time just to make women look uglier. Nice job, Soyny.

A rerelease would have made much more sense. A PS5 slim/whatever that isn't a seperate SKU and maybe less expensive. They need to expand their install base not try and fucking make a pro SKU.

Holy fuck the PS5 has like no games for real - and I really liked Returnal and Astro's playroom.

More ai upscalling bullshit, I'm not a fan of playing games with internal resolutions of the ps3 era being turned into an over sharp smeary blob by all these upscalers. It's bad enough on PC but now consoles have FSR 2 and 3 with frame gen, which you cant even turn off, and now sony has 'ai' upscaling in this and the switch 2 is probably going to have forced DLSS as well. I'd much rather have the original resolution output, since at least playing a game at 900p or whatever doesn't have the gross smeary and oily oversharpened or flickery look of these upscalers

A PS5 slim would've been preferred by me. Can act as a sleek 8k media center that can actually fit underneath your TV.

for the price of a PS5 and a PS5 Pro (less the $50 GameStop trade-in value of the former) you could build your own gaming PC that will last twice as long, has a library of more games than you could possibly play in your lifetime, and will pay itself off in the long run with things like Steam sales and Humble Choice. oh, and you can install your own fuckin software without Sony's permission. console cucks stay losing

Imagine paying $1200 (PS5 + upgrade to PS5 pro) to play no games in 4k with rt, both of which are graphics memes used to gatcha niggercattle, when you can build a powerful 1440p gaming rig and play more games than there are stars in the night's sky.

Meanwhile the PS4 is still getting multiplats with PS4 pro features after four years of the Seto Kaiba air filter tower being out

30 WGP = 60 CUs, compared to 36 CUs for base PS5. On first glance it compares directly to the 7800 XT, but slightly less bandwidth. The raytracing improvement either means there are features borrowed from RDNA3+/RDNA4, or they are cheating on that number with the upscaler.

The jury's out on the significance, but even without the upscaler it could boost games that could run at about 4K 40 FPS to 60 FPS. But it might require the devs of those non-existent games to do a little testing.

The industry is completely on board with upscaling, mostly because of Nvidia's success with it. It's here to stay. FSR 4 will probably use an AI-based method unless AMD is stupid or slow.

Just hope it gets better, which it has and will, and don't buy a PS5 Pro.

Incremental console upgrades is going to kill the console market. You may as well having a gaming PC if your stock console will be obsolete soon.

At this point just revamp the design on this thing, and call it a PS6 and put the poor PS5 out of its misery already.
Twice the consoles, but the number of games stays the same: 0 :story:

But really, how the fuck does Sony expect to sell this shit when there's almost nothing worth playing on it that can't be played on PS4 or PC? Not that I dislike getting "timed exclusives" like Nioh 2 to slurp up on Steam sales but what in the absolute fuck is their marketing strategy? Just look at this shit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_5_games, what the fuck on this list is supposed to compel anyone to purchase even a base PS5? Surely the goycattle covid funbux have dried up by now, expendable income is low, you're gonna need more than the status symbol bullshit that drove the initial sales to sell a Pro edition.
