PlayStation's humiliation ritual has finally reached it's peak. The jailbroken PS5s have their own store called Overdrive, which is essentially Sony's store but with all the games, updates, & DLC free. Proof from Twitter:

Sony killed the original GitHub, someone archived on Internet Archive (this is actually important cause it contains a necessary resources list & installation instructions), & that led to another GitHub. I'm posting last release & source code here just in case (except the tar.gz).

Now everyone can play PS5's massive library of games such Astrobot, the Astrobot spin-off, GoY, Vulvarine, &... Uh... You get the point!
While not another fine addition to Sony's humiliation ritual for the PS5, the jailbreak saga has another new finding for the "video game" console.

Someone jailbroke a PS5 & got Qwen 3.8 27 Billion parameter running on its GPU at 20 tokens per second.

Below is a lot of technobabble:
That's a real 27B AI model running locally on a games console. The same model on the PS5's CPU did about one token a minute. Same box, same model, & the GPU is what makes it usable.

The project is open source. It's called PS5LM, a llama.cpp port for jailbroken PS5s that runs any GGUF model natively, the dev has ported llama.cpp to the GPU, leveraging the PS5's GDDR6 video memory (more than the console & it's makers do) to turn a "gaming console" (which has no games on it) into a functional AI device. A fork called PS5LM Plus runs as a native PS5 title instead of a payload. That gives the model about 12 GB of memory plus the GPU, versus roughly 6 GB & CPU only. It runs a 2-bit Qwen 3.8 27B & serves an OpenAI & Anthropic compatible API, so tools like Claude Code can point at the console. It also has a TV dashboard showing tokens per second, GPU & CPU use, power draw, temperatures & memory split.

Mind you, this isn't a massive leap by any means. For anyone that wants a point of comparison, pretty much as good asset other mid-range GPUs like the 3070:
39082.png
Also, it's running a low-bit quantized version, so there will be some loss in model capability. But what's interesting is that this project even supports an OpenAI-compatible API, allowing computers and phones to directly call the large model on the PS5.

PS5 Pro might be better as the GPU is much beefier. RAM would be an issue too (16GB), though I do wonder if modders could crank it somehow to say, 32GB. In fact, You can use max 13.7 GB usable memory, & someone even found a way to unlock extra 1.1 GB more than the base PS5.

Meanwhile, after the graphic cards got snatched by cryptocurrency miners, & now it's being taken by AI companies—for both GPUs & memory. DDR4 prices are up 24% in 3 months, AMD just raised GPU memory prices, & 5090s are basically gone.

Just see these key numbers if you don't get it:
- Model: Qwen 3.8 27B, 2-bit quantized
- PS5 GPU: about 20 tokens per second
- PS5 CPU: about 1 token per minute
- Memory available: about 12 GB with GPU, versus about 6 GB CPU only
- DDR4 prices: up 24% in 3 months
TL;DR - You can run AI models on your PS5, this model specifically beats the frontier models running on entire data centers like 6 months ago.

PS5 coming to a datacenter near you.

We're returning to form with the PlayStation having more uses as literally anything other than a game console.

Back in 2010 they created something called the "Condor Cluster" capable of roughly 500 trillion calculations per second! They used it for things like radar processing, image analysis, and AI research. It cost around $2 million, a fraction of what a comparable supercomputer would've cost at the time. The Condor Cluster consists of 1,760 Sony PlayStation 3, & is the US Department of Defense's fastest interactive computer. [A]

Edit: I forgot to include that the public unknowingly helped them in the name of "curing cancer" & shit.

Can it be used to mine crypto or can money be made for adding your jailbroken PS5 to whatever system and renting the computer usage?
If so, used PS5s are about to skyrocket in price.
Yeah there's a chance of that, with it being jailbroken & all.

The funniest thing is, if I'm not wrong even people buying multiple consoles for crypto-farming & AI servers, Sony will still somehow lose money & the PS5 will still be a loss-leading console. That too, ironically due to people using it for anything but gaming. That is unless I'm wrong about how PS5 earns it's worth for Sony.

Edit: I feel like I kinda vagueposted here, so let me clarify what I meant. What I was saying about PS5 earning it's worth for Sony here was that from what I remember correctly (I think?), the main problem for Sony with this specifically is that the price for the PS5 is subsized, losing money on the console to make it back with game sales (despite having no games, yes). That business model completely breaks if you can use the hardware for anything else.

This is also missing Concord, and anything that's come out from April until now. So yes, it's kind of fucking ridiculous. Wolverine had 2, GTA6 has 2, the Gran Turismo one above, 007 First Light, the squinting version of the astrobot controller... so at least 26?

ngl i still like how the controller looks

Perhaps Sony needs to quit the gaming industry and just make supercomputers.

Apparently Wolverine was so bad Debra Wilson herself got the Debra Wilson fatigue.

TL;DW: She called out Western devs for making 100% copies of her face, & prefers characters where she's just the voice. Sure, she’s still taking the money, but at least she’s calling them out. Not every VA needs to be the character.

Honestly, I respect her for this. She got both deserved (she is kinda ugly) & somewhat undeserved (the devs making even her look uglier in Wolverine) heat over the years but she has never said “muh racism”. It is the game devs fault, & it sounds like she probably gets jack shit in royalties for her likeness. Let talented artists create unique faces instead of recycling the same Hollywood actors.

In the world where Erika Ishii exists, she's a class act honestly.

Well damn, I wasn't expecting that and her reasoning makes perfect sense.
Surprised that people forgot her opinion. It has been documented that this had always been frustrated about being face captured. She has played women that looked nothing like her and did so fine.

Ace Combat 8 victory
And many others.

Her face is not used in 90% of her credited roles. It’s just she’s ridiculously prolific, so it feels like she’s scanned into every AAA game.

Hell, she voiced Toadsworth in this:

Edit: I forgot there was another case with her. She played Savathûn in Destiny & even sent players a message in character when it became public that the game was gonna be killed.

It’s basically the same idea as The Grinch just being Jim Carrey painted green instead of what we got prosthetically, or Tom Cruise as Les Grossman. Most actors love the aspect of actually being unrecognizable as a character. Instead developers just want to make characters 1:1.

Playstation investigation calls #NoDiscNoBuy fake (archive)

Half of the PS5 NoDisc NoBuy backlash was fake finds new report

* Nearly half of the replies to official PlayStation posts about the disc boycott came from fake accounts
* Researchers identified 842 inauthentic accounts amplifying the backlash
* Fake accounts generated over 1 million potential views and more than 113,000 engagements
* Some boycott hashtags were amplified by bots in nearly 90% of cases
* The online boycott appeared to have little impact on Sony’s business so far

Yes, let's trust the analyst Cyabra that is in close relation with Sony & potentially paid by them :story:
