Maybe if the industry stopped producing literal garbage, there wouldn't be any reason to complain about it and laugh at the repeated failures? We're 6 years into the ps5, and it doesn't even have an average of one game per year so far. The N64 had a notoriously bare launch lineup, but it was corrected over the span of the 6 months after launch, and its game library wasn't a joke for 6 years instead.

Meanwhile we get developers having panic attacks due to being made fun of for shit tier products that they were proud of, publishers hiring therapists to be in office(this supposedly happened for AC shadows), marketing teams that have to come up with idiotic metrics to sound impressive instead of just using sales numbers, and executives seemingly clueless as to where billions of dollars have gone. It's not just Sony, but they're at the top of the pile for a representation of how shit the industry has gotten.

I'm surprised that the marketing teams haven't started to trash talk other games to try to get more sales, like the "Genesis DOES What NintenDON'T" ad campaign. One example is if Insomniac makes Wolverine ads that trash talk Gacha Games for using AI in their games, by saying that Wolverine is MADE BY REAL PEOPLE, and NEVER AI.

Or are trash talks ads considered offensive by the thousands of minority game devs?

"Yeah, yeah, Michael Jordan was a big deal for his time, but Lebron James is what really showed people basketball could make money."
No one ever surpassed MJ in influence. He is still the GOAT.

yeah nintendo canceled Mario after 2004, Sunshine was the last Mario game, literally nobody has made anything other than open-world crime games since 2004
I didn't say nobody makes other kinds of games. I said that there was a massive increase in the games that had open worlds and realistic graphics after. CoD was a massive influence too. Are you going to argue there wasn't? Outside Nintendo, how many kid-friendly games released every year on average? Far less than the years before. For every LBP, every were 10 AAA realistic, brown games at least a third of which were open world. The others were FPSs, TPSs or the occasional gory hack n' slash.

They make garbage because gamers, as a whole, seem to have historically bought whatever slop is shoveled in their trough.
Now, whether it’s a straw that broke the camels back, or declining disposable income, or whatever, the garbage isn’t selling like it used to. To me, it’s a beautiful thing, because nothing of value is going to be lost.
Reports are the Wolverine game cost 300 million (not including advertising). That number is so insane to me, I cannot even comprehend it (and I know other budgets are higher). It’s the classic hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, weak men create hard times cycle.

On another note, and I know I'm a few days late on this, I was looking into why Skillup is getting so much shit and it's just a tidal wave of Blue Check accounts and very obvious shills acting like he doesn't count as a reviewer just because he gave Wolverine a bad review.

This is where we're at now: Video game companies are paying thirdies and other people to discredit random guys on YouTube and say anyone who doesn't fall in line is bad and shouldn't be listened too.

ive actually wondered about this. ill tell you a story of 2 ad campaigns
when i was younger burger king would have a little sticker on their drive thru window that said "silly whopper, thats a big mac box!" and it had a whopper overfilling a big mac box
when kfc released their chicken sandwich a few years ago they had an advertisement that said something like "people that have no right making a chicken sandwich" or something along those lines.
instead of calling out specific competitors they now use vague "our competitors" advertising and idk what the catalyst for that was
it may have been a legal thing trying to avoid litigation or just perceived unprofessional behavior, or maybe investors have their hands in multiple pots and dont like that advertising. who the hell knows.

I also remember a Jack In The Box commercial that referred to Burger King, but not by name. The commercial starts by saying that BK (not by name) says that you can "have it your way", and then Jack In The Box's Breakfast at Anytime is advertised. It also reminded me of Cities Skylines's advertising using the "Play Offline" tag to trash talk SimCity 2013 (since it was an always-online game at launch), but not by name.

Also, back in the Call of Duty vs. Battlefield rivalry that happened during the Modern Warfare 2/Bad Company days, COD released a commercial with Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cole Hammels telling people not to spam grenades. In response, Battlefield released a commercial featuring New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia (but the Yankees team was not referred to by name, probably because paying for the Yankees licensing is more expensive) also taking about how grenade spam isn't as effective in Battlefield Bad Company 2 compared to other games in the same genre, which refers to Call of Duty, but not by name. Also, IIRC, the Yankees beat the Phillies in the World Series that year.

Here is the BC2 commercial featuring CC Sabathia:

Also, some car commercials today that make comparisons to rival brands sometimes still mention the rival car by name, but I'm not sure if that differs compared to food or video game ads that make comparisons to competitors.

Bots on Reddit keep posting all over the place, all of them saying "the game is a blast". Most astroturfed game I've ever seen.

Those ad campaigns were done by people with creativity and balls. There isn't enough testosterone left in the marketing departments at these studios and publishers to be willing to call out the rest of the industry because they're too scared of their own shadow and don't want to risk getting called out for their own faggotry.

Imagine if Bungie had the audacity to use such a campaign for Marathon, and then still got caught plagiarizing someone else's art, that would have just made the entire thing worse. And it was an internal group of devs that did it too, not one of the dozen outsourced studios doing crap like every big game has now.
