Wolverine is what happens when a violent, bloody action game is reluctantly made by people who hate violent, bloody action.
It looks so shit and is going to flop so hard that people don't even have time to mention the Wolverine / Sabrewolf homo gay romance.

That is how DSP bad this game is. It is so bad that the sabrewolf gay romance does not even register.

Then why stick with Concord? With Ghost of Yotei? With Spiderman 2? With Fairgame$? With Horizon? With Wolverine? With TLOU 2? With every other slop? No mate, they run out of money and were unwilling to cut in-house fat.
They fired the entire studio that made Concord. Sucker Punch, Insomniac, and Naughty Dog have so far made commercially successful games. That's why they haven't been fired. Haven Studios is on thin ice, wouldn't be surprised to see it shut down after Fairgame$ fails. If Wolverine did badly, given how well Spider-Man 2 did, Insomniac will probably get another chance.

It's really simple with Kojima. He was way over budget and way behind schedule, and his last game sold poorly. Everyone who's been kissing his ass for 30 years because of MGS can be mad, but he's not entitled to money. He's obligated to deliver. Death Stranding 2 did poorly, Physint was his chance to make it good, and he failed.

Yeah, I get that. But they should have done some preparedness. Charging into a new market without knowing anything about it is what Microsoft did with the original X-Box and we know how that went. That is what I mean. They went in BEFORE there was any proof that the market existed. They have no business sense and thus I don't trust them in their decision.
I think that was a little bit different, because it was more about the platform and in an era of entirely new frontiers with consoles: 3D graphics, high density storage and the internet. They saw that they had command of the more powerful pc infra and wanted to enter this market on that basis alone, microsoft basically did a dreamcast on their first attempt, but learned much and recovered quite bigly with 360 while sega just completely tanked, because dreamcast was all they had. but that's getting super off topic and is just me being nit-picky.
Perhaps we won't but why let ourselves take Sony to its word. Also, they are about as desperate for killer apps as MS is so why get rid of the one person with the highest chances of producing one (that they had under their payroll anyway)? Kojima isn't perfect but beggars can't be choosers.
Yeah, them dropping him without any way to make sense of this from the outside was also the main hinge of my attention to this. Regardless, it's actually interesting to see the tech maxed out and them now competing over the actual content more. Sony IS in the market lead, it would be quite amazing to see them fuck that with content starvation. It's getting interesting for sure.

He's out of financial runway.
Everything made by Sony has more problems than Kojima. Sure, they fired the Concord guys but they still greenlit everything everyone hated about the game. Why not reining them in? Sucker Punch had success so that is fine (even if the devs alienated people). Insomniac has two problematic games in a row (Spiderman 2 and Wolverine). Sony talked about "slim margins" and asked them to reduce headcount after S2. ND as a whole is fine but considering the backlash from both gamers and viewers, Druckmann should have been given more supervision to rein him in. As for Haven, they are also clearly another studio that was neglected and ended up with a dud.

Firing Kojima is understandable but he didn't do anything that Sony doesn't allow anyway. Overbudget? Behind schedule? All their studios are like that and some lack the goodwill to justify it but were kept. That is my issue. Not that Kojima was fired but that even worse people remained. Sony needs restructuring. Make guidelines for budgets and deadlines before you fire people for doing what you said was ok to do.

MS learned the wrong thing with the X-Box and had the 360 be a badly made piece of junk that played games but couldn't last long enough to get attached to.

Market lead doesn't feel right. I mean they are but...

That’s a gross oversimplification. They, and Sony, rushed production of their consoles, which caused abnormal hardware failures. I’d say that attrition for Xbox 360 outlasted those hardware failures. Better performance on games, Xbox Live, cheaper price compared to the PS3.

Certainly but I was going for little words. Yes, they rushed production. But I count the attachment to the device as a big factor in my opinion. A device that breaks all the time does not build confidence in the brand.

Which is why MS spent, I think $1 billion, to fix that issue before it could do irreparable damage to the Xbox brand. Speaking for myself, I had an 360 at 2009, but even thinking about the RRoD in the Internet’s consensus, I was attached to that console. YMMV.

Can you imagine a film director saying something like this in an interview?
No, I couldn't imagine a film director ever saying something like that, no
Or indeed a novelist. I couldn't imagine a novelist saying something like that, either
As if that wasn't bad enough, he admitted that he doesn't even play his own games in the same interview

I would argue that in the eyes of many it did irreparable damage. Not for everyone but for many having a single console that won't break down by itself was essential. I am glad that you remained attached to the machine.

Good on MS for being willing to replace the consoles though. That was great.

The only problem that matters in business is not making money.

The people who make financial decisions in a large corporations are not the people who make low-level product decisions. They often don't even know each other.

They really aren't. Naughty Dog and Insomniac in particular have historically been good about getting things done on time. And note, this wasn't the first time Kojima told them he needed more time and money. It's happened multiple times. You don't get infinite retries, not when the last studio who did that lost $400m.

And a lot of their stuff didn't.

Further evidence of Sony's mismanagement. If you can't afford to keep an eye, don't buy their studios.

Yeah, I agree. I am not opposed to his firing. I am opposed to them keeping the worse people. They should draw a line in the sand and do it properly. This wasn't proper.

Yeah, I think it is really that simnple. It has nothing to do with Kojima but that sony has had so many failures lately and lost so much money that eventually someone like the CFO has to step in and reign the spending.

It doesn't matter if it is God himself designing the game, at this point, if you slip behind and ask for more time and money they will likely shut you down.

After Wolverine becomes a disappointment, ND will be next.
I would not be surprised if things get so dire that the CFO will have to step in and take over the creative direction of the game. Can they really afford the kind of controversy they will receive if they continue on the TrannyInSpace path they are on?

I would not be surprised if the CFO steps in and mandates "there will be nothing in this game that can attract any kind of controversy, none" and that will be the end of the SpacetravelingBaldUglyWomxn arc.

I am sure SONY's CFO is personally keeping an eye on this project right now.

I could’ve sworn Insomniac Games had growing pains during the PS2 era into the PS3 era with Resistance and Ratchet & Clank.

Who are you talking about, exactly?
Neil Druckmann mainly. No love for the unworthy that pushed the worthy out of their jobs. Druckmann is responsible for all the bad ideas that were left in the cutting room floor. That is his only contribution. As for a more general answer, anyone who pushes for woke shit at Sony. Quality went down since they started to do that.
