The PS3 was such a fucking shitshow. It's the only console I know where you need a fucking chart to figure out which machine version is the one that suits your needs. Before that it was, what.... the Sega Genesis with it's 3 different models? Not even the 3DS and it's "new" equivalents matched the PS3 Clone Wars.

Besides putting the main storyline on hold for nearly a decade to do a flashback story, it's been said that Kojima REALLY REALLY REALLY disliked fans in the west that disliked the made by committee to appeal to lowest common denominator female fans character Raiden. So to punish the western fans, Kojima essentially decided that Snake's face and body would now be used exclusively for young Big Boss. Which is why Snake was a gray haired old man with a mustache in MGS4 and why Konami has to overrule and tard wrangle to the extreme Kojima during the lead up to the game's release. Kojima wanted to explicitly go full mystery box the fans ala MGS2 and pull a bait and switch, making them think they were getting a new game with Snake as the lead character but not knowing until the day the game hit shelves and people bought it, that it wasn't a continuation of MGS2's plots but a flashback story and you play as Big Boss not Snake. To the point that the first round of screen shots sent to game magazines were vague as fuck and didn't state the lead character was Big Boss.
Well, all that certainly gives further context to why Konami were finished with him after he insisted on going Secret Agent PT Barnum with GZ and full Boyhood with PP. Managing an autist with more power than sense and twice as much money sounds like a nightmare, double when in a culture like Japan’s. Kojipro should’ve happened after 3, maybe; everything after that to me felt like compromises that no one was happy with.
I know I'm a few pages late to this, but fuck, this is a dumb take. Hell, I agree, I think that playstation controllers are absolute shit and their layout is based around imbecilic spite and refusal to improve because that would mean admitting to any form of fault. But when you've got a whole country of people that buys an absolute shit ton of video games and happens to prefer this layout, why the fuck would you force them to use a different layout that completely goes against deep-seated cultural instincts. Again, for another one, this would be like mandating that traffic lights in the US switch it so that red means go "because red is the color of going fast" in india or china or somewhere. They've made devs swap the button functionality between X and O in the english and european releases of plenty of games since the ps1, what exactly does it accomplish to mandate them to change it even in japanese releases?
