And even with video games, unless you are Mihoyo, Shiftup or Nexon people won't talk about you anymore after a week on average.
Do not think Mihoyo, Shiftup or Nexon are immune. Nexon fucked up with Maplestory, CS Nexon and even released a singleplayer game with no fanfare at all. And Shitup quality is all over the place.

I never said that they are immune.

My point is that if you are running Gacha waifu games people will actually bother for around as much as they could stay online unless you royally fuck up like what Blue Archive is undergoing RN.

If you look at Atlus (Metaphor and just SMT in general), Bandai Namco (this is about their recent, non-anime slop games) or even Yacht Club Games (Mina the Hollower) or Retroware (Iron Meat), your game probably only has a single week on the headlines before it dissipates entirely unless you go out of your way to shill it.

Meanwhile you look at things like Mega Man, Plants vs Zombies, Mass Effect, Castlevania, Street Fighter, Sonic the Hedgehog, Pokemon etc, etc etc... those stay relevant for multiple decades. Most of them are obviously not on headline level in the present day because big corpo crashed and burnt most, if not all of them in lockstep, but the fact doesn't change that they are still being routinely brought up here and then. In the present day the only new or newer things that get this much clout are waifu Gachas.

eh it's hard to say with south korean companies, fucking mu online is still alive and well in there and it has been how many decades? they even had to kill off sudden attack in order to do a remaster with a planned western release that is in EA too and they still do content for SA.
in the west mu is kept alive thanks to south america.

so in a way they can use south korean money to try international things and if it fails they can always close the servers and go back to the kr version.

This shit happened with Aion, Vindictus, Lineage and god knows how many. The most recent KR game to shutdown was Kurtzpel.

they all got relaunches though, even fucking GunZ got a planned re-release.
although KR mmo is a very unstable place, if you not one of the big ones that have consolidated yourself, you will have a hard time surviving, you can absolutely bank in the nostalgia chips most of the times too, alliance of valiant arms for example is pretty much dead but a bunch of nostalgianiggers keep it alive, plus the whole crypto thing... meanwhile the korean version, you guessed it... it's been fine for a long time while int had to re-relase itself twice.
still, the game is fucking 19 years, 19 YEARS, GOD I FEEL FUCKING OLD, THE GAME IS OLD ENOUGH TO DRINK AND IT'S A FUCKING MMOFPS.

Ya know, I’m tired of all the performative boycotts like the one Soyny Ponys have to boycott Soyny for a week. You really aren’t going to make a dent in their earnings.

It would help your cause to sell your PS5 and cancel your account. These chuckle fucks will only learn once their profits plummet.

Its really too bad modding tools have gone by the wayside. Think of a deck of cards, your standard deck you have had for eons. If all other board games go you could still have that deck, and with that endless games based off of that can be made.

We use to have that in games, hell its why Doom and Duke Nukem 3D still live on. For consoles its why Super Mario 64, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark still live on. Companies in the past embraced that shit with mod tools. But in the digital era they have stomped down on those. This step by Sony is just another turn of the wheel away from that. These games won't last. Sony failed with their live service initiatives but now their entire ecosystem is gonna be solely in their hands on their servers.

A bit of a side tangent I guess but it is just another step away from what we use to have back in the day.

Sony released their first-quarter financial results. "Add-on" content—defined as "in-game currency, in-game items and expansion packages"—sells more than digital and physical games COMBINED. This supports what I wrote weeks ago about how the Fortnite, Roblox, gacha, COD, and sports kiddies were driving up the digital sale statistics with microtransactions. Additionally, Sony makes about $1.2 billion USD every quarter from Playstation Plus ("Network Services"). It really puts Sony's failed live service push into perspective.

Report (.pdf). Chart is on Page 11.

It would be easier to accept that this is the end of an era if Playstation and their shills were just plain honest that Playstation makes most of their money via "Add-on Content." But that's not what's happening. The pro-physical crowd is still being berated weeks later for not buying enough discs to keep up with the 10 year-old buying Robux with mom's credit card and told it's all their fault for killing physical. Not to mention that the physical crowd probably contributed to some of those add-on sales as well via DLC purchases. It's beyond insulting.

Here are the competing customer groups:

1) The diehard annual sports and COD crowd. These franchises are treated as disposable. Multiplayer on the sports games shuts down a year or two after release (I don't know about COD). Physical copies have no resale value. There's not much incentive to buy physical, especially if you own a digital-only PS5.

2) Literal children driving up microtransaction statistics with Roblox and Fortnite.

3) Everyone else. This includes the customers who spent 30+ years helping build the Playstation brand and their IPs. This is the group who overwhelmingly buys physical.

Playstation chose accommodating groups #1 and #2 over #3.

But it didn't stop there.

Group #3 is now being used as the scapegoat for not buying enough Ghost of Yotei physical discs to keep up with the Roblox kiddies and annual sports/COD crowd.

One thing that needs to be mentioned, sony reports 100% of every digital transaction on psn as revenue, even though they only take a 30% cut in the case of 3rd party software, which is the vast majority.

It also puts both thier efforts into porting thier games onto PC and the subsequent retracting for single player games into perspective, as an attempt to convince PC Players to sample thier IPs and if they'd like it, they would buy a PS5 for whatever future games they'd make (and if they didn't know about emulation and or how easy it is to pirate old games, buying the rereleased old games as they come) and eventually end up playing any F2P games long enough to make a microtransaction purchase and become whales, to which they would get a cut from (PS+ would be an alternitive due to paid online and/or the other perks it offers), and when that didn't work, they would have tried to use thier single-player games behind exclusivity to convinvce people to buy a PS5 and cause the above cycle, while keeping the multiplayer games they made multi-plats still get at least 70% due to other platform cuts from MTXs.

The problem with the second choice the went with was they arn't like Nintendo where they both had a consistant fanbase and the actual bare mimimum quality/polish to back it up, or any successful Indie or AAA studiowhere they ethier had some inertia from thier glory days, an IP that people would pay money for, or for most Indie studios, getting enough money from sales to get by. Sony more or less killed most of the IPs they did own if thier studios that they own didn't leave them behind for a different IP with just as much as killing Japan Studio, let alone most of thier western studios ethier jumping to a new IP every console to varrying degrees before clinging onto one for dear life on the PS5 generation, and the best they had for years has been shitty movie "games" and maybe a 7/10 platformer every now and again, which does not help sales (and especially MTX sales) when most of the games they could have used for this was ported to PC with the perverbial Plan A, and the games that have been stuck to PS5 now like Ghost of Yotei isn't selling well and the would be PC gamers who played those games are now a lot more privy in regards to what to expect from a Sony game.

And not only that, companies have started putting extremely invasive kernel-level anti-cheats in games, as part of the modding crackdown. And expect companies to start putting them in single-player games too, just so people can't remove things like pride flags that are put into games just to be there.

the only issue would be the online-only thing that consumers are still pretty much against it but everything hints that bethesda's creation shop is what they want to do but can't because of the engines they use, that includes the two common ones at the time of writing them being unreal and unity for reasons i don't know but technicality is one of them since they have been infesting their studios with people what have a IQ of a jeet and thus can't work on the engine to make it the way they want.
because you can easily bypass these anti-cheats to cheat and mod your game and them getting you banned for it doesn't seem to b a risk they are willing to take yet, we'll see with GTA6, i wish i was kidding because GTA V lets you disable the spyware and you can still cheat and play online even though they said that the reason you can disable it is so you can play with mods :lit:

don't kid yourself though, they fucking hate modding and would have every modmaker publicly executed if they could, it's just that mods are such a high-level convenience thing that it's extremely retarded to do anything hostile to it, but they absofuckinglutelty would kill it if they could.

The problem for Sony is that they don't have any of those, at least not anymore.
They have plenty of great legacy IPs, they just refuse to do anything with them.

You could easily fart out a new Parappa The Rapper game for under $5-million and make a modest profit, but that's not good enough for current year Sony (or any of the big publishers). They want every game to make forever money.
There's only as much retro games or movies (or just anything in-general) one could possibly have.
Even if everyone downed tools right now and never produced another game, movie, book or record there would still be more quality media in existence than any one person could consume in their lifetime.

Selling your PS5 and cancelling your account would achieve nothing because in both cases Sony already got your money. All you need to do is stop giving them more money by taking your business elsewhere.

While true. If you sell your PS5, you more than likely don’t have interest in the PS6. And both will stop giving them money, unless that person decides to give Soyny a second chance.

told you them niggas can bank on nostalgia, 6800 people playing some random korean mmofps, zero mention or marketing done...
guess what? the original version is ancient as shit and easy bet a good chunk of these 6800 people have played it before.

Yeah I suppose it's more a symbolic act than anything. Personally I'm keeping my PS5 for watching DVDs and streaming, I just won't be buying any more games for it. PS+ is going to the hardest break for me because I have several years of backlog to clear and only so much free time.
