Sony hate thread

That kinda reminds me of the last time people said Nintendo was doomed and it was all over for them. And the time before that. And the time before that. And the time before that. And the time before that…
Ah, I recognize this. TDS sufferers and blackpill/doomers in USPG2 do the same thing -- "things haven't progressed as far as I wanted as fast as I wanted, it isn't completely, absolutely 100% finished to my total and complete satisfaction as I expected at first, the wildest promise some unrelated uninvolved guy made that one time in an off-hand remark hasn't come true instantly, ergo literally nothing has happened at all whatsoever, no progress has been made, nobody's doing anything, I didn't vote for this, nothing good will ever happen, no progress will ever be made, we lost, we're all doomed/fucked and it's all over, why bother trying, I give up, everything good dies, maybe I'll just eat worms, and you're dumb for hoping for anything better."

Very unhealthy cynicism. Don't worry though. Usually it passes. Except Tier-5 TDS'ers like Whoopi Goldberg or Rosie O'Donnell ... they're probably broken for good. But that makes them unintentionally really fucking funny because they can't stop randomly exploding for no good reason, and they don't have the good sense to avoid the cameras.

The case is progressing, and so far Nintendo is losing by all available measures. It won't bankrupt them or break them or likely even change their shitty attitude. But it will get them out of Pocketpair's hair and settle important questions. Rulings have already been made that specific mechanics at controversy did not infringe on Nintendo's patents (either via invalidation or simply being found not being infringing after examination) -- a material victory for Pocketpair and a material defeat for Nintendo. The allegations they've made in their complaint are proving false every time they've been tested. Nintendo has already lost the most important element of their case -- Palworld lives on and they can't stop it (at least with this legal theory).

And there's no changing that they've lost a portion of their patent portfolio through successful prior art challenges now. That's a real, measurable loss. Like, a dollar-value loss (patents are considered valuable assets). If they completely drop the Palworld case tomorrow and walk away and Pocketpair chooses not to retaliate (the latter is likely; they're making money hand-over-fist, are breaking sales records, and would much rather focus on their successful product without the Nintendo nuisance nagging at them), the damage is still done.

They can't leverage those patents against anyone else. They're just gone. A hundred Pokémon clones could come out next week using the same mechanics those patents covered, and Nintendo can't touch them (and if they tried, those other developers can just point straight back at these invalidations with shit-eating grins and send a signed photocopy of their butt cheeks to Nintendo's legal office).

Even if they see their copyright infringement case against Pocketpair all the way to trial and win, no material changes are forthcoming that could benefit Nintendo. They'd get maybe $50-60k in cash, but no substantial changes are left to be made to Palworld (they adjusted the game to address Nintendo's complaints when they filed the lawsuit, correctly anticipating an attempt at injunction preventing launch). A very hollow "victory," and that's assuming they win, which a good number of patent, copyright and game industry experts expect they won't. Yes, yes, "experts" get things wrong, but they often get things right, too. Patent litigation (especially patent trolling, which is arguably what Nintendo's doing here) is an entirely different beast than copyright infringement litigation. The granting authorities invalidating patents is always considered a very strong indicator the side losing the patents is going to lose their case. In cases of genuine patent trolling, the troll generally drops their claims soon after losing their patents.

By dismantling Nintendo's ridiculous patents on painfully obvious game mechanics, Pocketpair have protected themselves and their game (they're free at this point to re-add the mechanics they removed or changed now that the patents covering them are gone) and ensured Nintendo can't really harm them going forward. We get a fun game and get to keep playing it without endless patches to screw with mechanics to keep a patent troll at bay.

yea, @moocow, you are my nigger, but Bob does have a point. It doesn't matter if Nintendo wins or loses the lawsuit, because they're still Nintendo, and Pokemon is literally the highest grossing media franchise on the planet. Game Freak could literally shit in two paper bags and call them "Pokemon Wind and Waves" and they'd still sell like hotcakes.
Doesn't matter. Nobody's expecting or predicting Nintendo to suddenly keel over dead if they lose a lawsuit. Nobody thinks this is a Pokémon killer. It's an obvious affectionate parody that's fun on its own merits and didn't deserve Nintendo's bullshit litigation and Nintendrones' stupid whining about copyright infringement.

Nobody worth listening to expects a change in IP ownership (that's retarded and not at all how such disputes work in any courtroom anywhere in the world, nor is anyone even seeking it, so pretending like that's on the table is disingenuous and just a strawman). The point is for us all to point at them and laugh for being assholes and having it blow up in their faces. They could have literally done nothing and been in a better position (in terms of overall precedent, in their patent portfolio, and in terms of potentially attacking someone more vulnerable later on). But they were dicks, and they're being spanked. Enjoy it. it's the only kind of genuine "win" the good guys (i.e. us -- the customers) ever get. Kinda like when Galoob spanked them in the 80's over the Game Genie. That was satisfying too.

Nintendo have always been litigious cunts and they rarely actually win when their bullshit actually goes to court. This is just their most recent reminder. Seeing them taken down a peg or two, whether it ultimately has any permanent effect on their dumbassery or not, is satisfying, and I'm enjoying it immensely. A bit of precedence setting (invalidating retarded patents in this case) is a nice bonus. Meltdowns by Nintendrones is just extra sauce on an already delicious meal too. And seeing a good game (and its scrappy underdog developers) succeed despite Nintendo faggotry is always worth a smile. Sit back and enjoy it! A good game is enjoying success and Nintendo's getting pantsed. Don't take it so personally, and just enjoy the show.

The real win here is a competitor is competing on merit and succeeding financially and among its players, in defiance of a jealous peanut gallery and a patent troll being a jerk.

because said company has already shat itself and there is nothing else outside a gaping anus while the competition is still shitting itself, call it the sony luck i guess, most of it's competitors shit itself in a spectacular way it draws attention from them shitting themselves.
It's become a kind of bizarre three-way competition to see who can eat the most glue the fastest, hasn't it? :story:

Console warring used to be a matter of dickwaving over specs and content, and people rooting for their Chosen Brand™ were hoping for it (and its parent company) to succeed and stand victorious over its vanquished foes. But now they're all shit in different ways, and for at least the past two generations it's been less about "who's gonna make the kill shot and cinch victory for this generation?" and more "oh god who's gonna fuck up and kill their console hardest this generation?"

It's kinda fun. Console wars are boring. Watching companies shoot themselves in the foot never gets old though. They're so innovative and creative finding new ways to do it! It's genuinely exciting seeing three separate companies, each with (substantial) rabid fan bases, competing with each other over who can fuck up the most. It's not even a competition to "fuck up first," since no matter how bad one of them fucks up, the other two just see it and say "hold my beer." They're all seemingly trying to self-destruct with the biggest boom. This shit's more entertaining than reality TV was two decades ago when it was still new.

buddy-buddy enough with Sony to form something akin to The Pokemon Company
They want to be bootleg pokemon so bad, they made a bootleg version of, bar none, the most retarded thing about pokemon that everyone involved would change if they could, that the brand has succeeded in spite of rather than because. Not to be all "enlightened centrist", but both sides are retarded, the companies and the fans. No, I'm not pretending an asset flip, content barren, early access open world survival crafter is some genius work of art just because modern pokemon has sucked for the past 15 years, and just because I don't suck the shriveled cock of an asset flip, content barren, early access open world survival crafter doesn't mean I think modern pokemon doesn't suck. I want a good game, not to pretend I'm somehow making game freak/nintendo mad by spending my hard earned money on absolute gutter slop.

as if it's worse than being a literal slave to a company like Harman Smith or someone who is visibly upset that the company doesn't make the games they want or acting like a rebel for doing the bare minimum with them not interacting with them directly or just playing thier older content or playing games thinking playing a game makes people who work at said companies angrier than the people thinking that let on about themselves?, i'd rather have more centrists in the "hearing both sides and/or actually using thier brain" sense over that.

This flavor of jealous seething at something succeeding despite all those alleged qualities is what makes me relish this whole thing. Eat shit and seethe, Nintendrone.

It wasn’t a cell-based GPU they were planning on using, it was a second full Cell in the dedicated role of graphics calculations.
Was it, I thought the Cell handled everything. I remember hearing that the PS3 almost neglected having a GPU.

pokemon has sucked for the past 15 years
Gamefreak tried a bit more than not at all with B/W and upon not immediately being rewarded with financial success decided to fully commit to doing the lowest effort technical implementations alongside throwing in random jingle-jangle gimmicks for each gen. Because of the aforementioned, and the fact that all their recent sloppa ended up making boku money, they will never try again. At least we get an occasional good spinoff game (less often than during the GBA/DS era but I digress) from developers who don't hold active contempt for the audience.

I haven't actually played it but my oomf who really likes the minecraft pokemon mod seems to enjoy it. I feel the same way about it as meccha chameleon (I feel one ought to give kudos to the devs for finding an opening in the market and filling it even if it doesn't particularly interest me).

This is my favourite video in regards to explaining the PS3's unique architecture.
I can mostly follow his explanation, the key takeaway is the PS3 was much more powerful than the 360 but so difficult to use that only first party devs or Sony themselves had time to learn how to leverage the system's full capabilities, which is why all the best-looking/running games on the system were exclusives.

For example, Naughty Dog claims they were only using 30% of the PS3's capabilities for Uncharted 1, but had pretty much tapped it out by the time they made Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us.

I looked more into Astrobot and I must say, I am genuinely impressed by the graphics. The gameplay is fine too, this is a perfect inoffensive launch title, except since the console doesn't have any other good exclusives, it is the ONLY good game it has as far as I know. Are there any other games on PS5 that even remotely took advantage of it's specs or was this overpriced PC completely squandered?

This is my major problem with that: it wasn’t a launch title and it absolutely should have been. What was released in late 2020 was a free tech demo, the full game released around 4 years after launch which was absurd.
As I said here, there are barely any exclusive games here which’s ridiculous given the console age. I will be generous here for what to play here assuming you can find them at 10$ each:
  • Demon’s Souls remake: if u never played the PS3
  • Bloodborne: so you can play it smoothly without the console dying
  • Ghost of Tsushima and Yotei: the former released on Steam
  • GTA6 - may God forgive me for uttering it- is the reason why you will not find a PS5 Pro anytime soon
I am grasping at straws here because I don’t see a real reason to buy a PS5 except if you’re a GTA6 super fan. The rest can be played on other platforms, old consoles or will be released to Steam soon.

lowkey, a large portion of the "Anti-Nintendo" side is arguably more insufferable than the actual nintendrones. at least with the nintendrones, you can at least laugh at how much they dedicated themselves to one brand and how blindly they clearly hate things because it isn't thier brand.

meanwhile that large portion of the other side has become increasingly more unhinged and explosive year after year as Nintendo does what they have for decades dating back to the NES to their own sucess where a lot of the critisisms and arguements they did have since like 2017 has devolved into "GRRR THEY DON'T MAKE THE GAMES I WANT, THEY'RE GREEDY FOR CHARGING $X AMOUNT OF MONEY OR DOING SOMETHING EVERYONE ELSE HAS DONE BEFORE, THEY SUE EVERYTHING WITH NOOOOO EXECPTIONS AND HATE THAT FANS CAN DO BETTER THAN THEM (ignoring the many, many examples that they haven't and the two most famous examples are nearing a decade old at this point), THEY'RE MAKING EVERYTHING INTO BREATH OF THE WILD, THEY'RE LOOSING AT A LOLSUIT AND OUR PROOF IS THAT THE PATENETS THEY FOUGHT OVER GOT REJECTED, AND IF YOU DON'T PIRATE EVERY GAME THEY EVER MADE YOU'RE A BOOTLICKER", and like... Yeah, they arn't perfect and they did do some really hanous shit before, but why are you continuing to let a corporation stay rent free in your head to such a degree that it even rivals the actual bootlickers? They used to be "better" when you were a child and ignorant about every little thing they did?, So what? that's both every major corporation in the past centrury and no amount of crying crocodile tears and shaking your fist will make that change when they have thier own consumer base that they were targeting that will keep buying because they think the products they offer is good enough for them.

For fuck's sake, not even a similar part of the "Anti-Microsoft" or "Anti-Sony" side has been as absolutely devolved into being as one note and mind numbing, and the former uses whatever the current Windows fuckup as a means to shill for Linux.

It's become a retarded, purity-spiraling cesspit, where the goal is to prove you're not a heretic, I mean, nintendo bootlicker, by being more retarded, unhinged, and disconnected from reality than everyone else in the discussion. You called nintendo greedy and anyone who buys them retarded for selling a pair of upscaled wii games for $70? Well I said that they're actually selling it for $90, that the switch 2 doesn't come with a dock, it costs $600, every single game is on a key card, and that nintendo is unironically more evil than monsanto, nestle, dupont, and the east india company combined!

Meanwhile, sony literally sues for the right to shut off your internet if you pirate a sony movie or an anime on crunchyroll or a playstation ga- (nevermind, we'll get back to you on that last one when there's something to pirate) and it's crickets.

Always has been. No matter how bad Nintendo gets (and they may be the most unlikable they’ve ever been now), their vocal detractors always, always, find a way to be significantly more retarded. Sony fans since the PS3 (if not earlier) have based their entire identity around hating their competition kinda like the company they worship, and while Nintendo fanboys can get roped into arguments started by other people (read: almost exclusively sonyggers), they’re usually too busy actually playing the games they talk about.
Well I said that they're actually selling it for $90
I really don’t get this one. I saw so, so many people whining about how Nintendo raised game prices to $90. No… they didn’t. At all. I even saw some people posting screenshots as “proof” except the screenshots clearly do not show $90. So where did it come from? Is it some other currency that uses the same dollar sign?

PSN has been down for around 3 hours,

The all digital future is looking great.

That didn’t stop me from being able to play any of my digital library, nor anyone else who was playing single player games.
Damn, a portion of the player base is unaffected, therefore, that nullifies the negative effects this situation has on the people who literally have to pay for a service necessary to enjoy the games they "bought"...

>The company heavily pushing always online, live service titles, put in a 30 day check-in on digitally purchased titles, is killing physical entirely, and also will just delete purchased digital content from your system with no warning or refund is also the company that has massive breaches that result in your credit card info being stolen and their servers going down several times a year
"Wow, just wow, I literally can't even, you guys are being so MEAN, bullying and witch hunting poow widdle innocent mom and pop store, family business sony!"
