Suddenly Nintendo's game key cards, where you can sell, trade or borrow games easily doesn't seem like such a terrible idea in comparison to an all digital world where you own literally nothing, and thus cannot sell, trade, or borrow games easily.
Two of my favorite Soyny warriors are crashing out over their perfect company making such a heinous decision. It's kinda funny how they regularly clown on Xbox doing such shitty practices, and rightfully so, while acting like Sony is too intelligent to do the same.
Nintendo still makes cartridges for the Switch 2, but they are far from the dominant platform currently. Plus, how long can they hold onto making expensive cartridges (which apparently run somewhere between $15 and $20 to make and sell) when no one is even bothering to make cheap plastic discs?

The only reason Sony has sold as many playstation 5 systems as they have compared to switch 2, is because it came out 5 years earlier. Meanwhile the switch 2 isn't even as cheap as the switch 1 was for most of it's lifespan so far. Microsoft and Sony have been fucking up for a decade, hence constantly shutting down studios and projects, mass layoffs every quarter, and so on. With Microsoft announcing another price increase that'll of course be sure to boost sales, and Sony announcing this yeah it'll definitely help their growth(it will help profit by cutting costs, of course when they don't actually have any games worth a shit is it actually going to make a difference?).
Every gaming news lately has been pointing towards total collapse. But since nothing ever happens,I'm sure modern gaming will somehow keep on dragging it's dead corpse for longer than anyone could ever expect.
I'll just focus on my backlog and enjoy the shitstorm from far away. It's not like I can even play all the greatest games ever made before dying from old age anyways, new vidya is not required.

VGShartz is also unreliable as all hell, and their numbers also pretty much always "coincidentally" favor playstation compared to the real numbers when they release. Their europe "estimations" are, I shit you not, taking one random guy's guesses for Spain's hardware sales based on Spain's physical software sales, and then "extrapolating" that to the entire continent. It is not uncommon at all for their "estimated" playstation sales to be nearly double what they actually were in reality for that period. Not even wikipedia will let you cite them as a source, and wikipedia allows the "estimates" from a random crypto scam blog that spun off a "video game analytics" service when NFT gaming crashed and burned, who openly state they have no actual sources and are just guessing, so imagine how bad it has to be that you're considered less trustworthy. Point is, in reality, it's even WORSE for sony.

Oh absolutely. It's just comical seeing someone try to claim that Nintendo is "far from the dominant platform" when they've been the dominant platform for a decade, probably longer at this point.
Although we still do get numbers from Sony themselves. This one being from their FY2025 earnings call from May 2026 where they claimed 93 million in cumulative ps5 unit sales(it's on page 10, where they also try to play up the positives of Marathon and Saros lol)
So we don't even need some bullshit extrapolation for global numbers. 6 years of PS5, and still hasn't broken 100 million units. 1 year of switch 2, and it's already hit 20 million while they're still selling the first gen switch where PS4 and Xbox One sales only did a bit better combined, while having a 4 year head start against it. Both of those companies have been doing awful after the 360 and ps3 era.
