At one point people will simply realize that there will be no gaming, and the only source of entertainment will come from mass murder and war.

This is the message spread by the elites and they WILL successfully make sure it happens.

It's the same way how the Jews made sure the West will live only the Catholic way during the 5th CE. If you read an actual history book you'll know how well this went.

The licensing / future availability stuff greatly concerns me but I feel like physical media collections are often, but not always, manchild shit. There is rarely anything special about a DVD/Game unless you get some Criterion/Collector edition, and even then its just a fucking box. These aren't unique objects with history and lineage, they are mass-produced in a factory. Nobody is impressed by your shelf of "media". CDs, DVDs, and games all have an expiration date when the data will begin to rot. Maintaining a well organized, high-quality digital collection on a home server is preferable in almost every way.

The exception to this rule is vinyl records because they are larger format art (12x12, look great displayed), lack branding (PS5, XBOX, {studio logo}, GOTY Edition!), will outlast literally any other form of consumer media, and have significantly more "bonuses" (gatefold art, liner notes, lyrics, sleeve art, hype-stickers, posters, download cards, etc.). I have around 50 records that my nam vet neighbor gifted me. He was a field medic and described what his favorite albums were, what people asked to listen to, what songs he couldn't listen to... All of this history is trapped inside physical grooves of a much more emotional and artful medium.

Everything about the GTA6 disc seething just screams "redditor manchild that is upset that they can't larp as a child because they remember how good it felt to put a disc into a tray." We need to focus on preservation of games and making sure we can play them in the future, not getting a disc in a plastic box to fill your goyshelf with.

can you stop posting your accelerationist fetish content

Unfortunately the full-blown Digitalization of Playstation (and everything about Gaming since the advent of Microtransactions and DEI) is accelerationist by nature. There is no choice until things actually get better (and not in a way where we just keep running until we have nowhere to go).

What a combo

The only problem with a gaming PC is having to use Windows.
Proton makes Linux gaming mostly doable now.

I'd be sad but honestly when's the last time I bought a game on disc, the ps4?

Where do you even buy disc copies now a days, Best Buy? They've got like 5 new slop releases there max.

Anything on ps5 (I play shit on my Portal, since I got it for free, decent enough) or PC I own digitally. My PC doesn't even have a disf drive.

Ownership of digital media is a seperate argument to fight for than needing disc copies.

Gamestop but it's gonna be %100 funko pops and t-shirts now

Speaking of combos they're doing this in the middle of a ram and storage crisis where you can barely fit 4 games on a 500gb ssd.

By the time they drop a 1500 dollar digital only console you might as well just build a PC at that point because physical media was the only advantage consoles had over PC until now. But most gamers are cattle ofc.
Piracy and PC disk drives preserve media better than owning old console copies. Burning roms onto discs make console copies redundant if you care about playing games and don't feel like paying thousands for a rare copy.

How can we shoot ourselves in the foot today boys? Oh let’s tell everyone we are going to kill off physical games in 2028 aka “you will own nothing and be happy. 80 dollars please for Troon McNiggertits to tell you to suck the girldick. Sorry racist, we tied your mandatory ID to an X post about not thinking troons are real men/women, no access to your games anymore.

I would like to think people would spit in Sony’s face for this removal of owning the discs (certainly kills the resale market), but I expect there are enough goy cattle who will love paying full price for shit they don’t own.

But but Steam does this and…I don’t have to buy a separate console for it and I certainly don’t usually have to pay full price for dogshit games. If I buy your console, I better get your fucking discs as well so I can play that forever.
The fact they go ahead with announcing this a fucking week after deleting digital purchases on playstation with no refund is what gets me. They do not give a singular shit about how brazen they are with it.

This is true and linuxcels will seethe but most people don't want to have to whip out the command terminal every time they want to change their wallpaper.
As someone who ran Linux as my daily driver for 6 years, I can't argue this. I had multiple issues while attempting to game. I guess steamOS is fairly stable, but not sure if I would want to drop 1k+ on something that I can ONLY game on.

Steam Machine had a desktop mode.
