I remember photo mode was in Cyberpunk and with a mod, in Skyrim.
Sometimes i use them for backgrounds in my PC but more than that, yeah; it's somewhat useless.

Why are Marvel/Sony fans so fucking full of shit? Or are they just retarded?

This video showcases how the instant heal animation is completely shit compared to how it worked in Origins: Wolverine, but yet they talk about how it's such an improvement over 17 years?
Honestly, what do you expect from Snoy fans? These are the same retards that play the exact same over-the-shoulder, walking simulator movie game every time and think it's a GOTY masterpiece.
Also, I just saw the video of the Laundry devs being interviewed where they say their first introductions to GOW was the 2018 game. This shit is a DNB on arrival.
 
"Photo mode" is fine for games like X4: Foundations where there's cool shit everywhere you might actually want to be able to look at from all angles. But modern FPSes and third-person action adventure games? Nah, that's useless fluff. Go to the straight porn makers for good pics of the females if that's what you're after; the games are engineered to deny titillation as much as possible now anyway.

One of the seldom talked about fallouts of woke game development is how armor design just totally went to shit around 2017 and just hasn't come back. I think they're related but I'm not sure how.

One of the seldom talked about fallouts of woke game development is how armor design just totally went to shit around 2017 and just hasn't come back. I think they're related but I'm not sure how.

The first God of War was made in the early 2000s, the culture of game development and the people behind it were a completely different breed of eager, talented individuals, the cream of the crop working with peers that bounced ideas and concepts off of each other without fear of expressing their thoughts or butting heads with each other to fight for those ideas. These were passionate creators working on a game concept they believed in because it was cool and a homage to great action and adventure games and movies from the past. It was aimed straight to an male audience that loved those concepts. Listening to David Jaffe from 20 years ago compared to who he is now is night and day difference and it is a living representation of what happened to the culture of Western AAA game development as a whole.



Game development turned from a frat house into a longhouse.
 
One thing also where modern gaming but where especially Sony also lost the plot is the whole player character to player dissonance. Regardless of the story being told the player is inserted into the game through the characters they control. Yes Kratos is a character, but he is also the player which is why nu Kratos doesn't land. Sure there is a spectrum to this, something like Gordon Freeman who is nothing but the player to OG Kratos which has a backstory and the like but here is the thing. In God of War you do badass things, Kratos is treated as a badass, so as the player you feel badass. There is very little baggage there. The cutscenes back this up as you go from point A to point B. It isnt trying to be like Schindlers List. No you are doing badass things and badass things happen.


Devs have always tried to fuck with this formula. Hell in the other thread we brought up Spec Ops the Line awhile ago which IMO completely fucks this up. Even back then a game no one played Pariah, it does the plot twist that you were the bad guy the whole time. This doesnt land because you arent doing evil/bad shit during the rest of the game. It works for the Postal games, hell it works for Far Cry 2. But it doesnt work there and modern Sony keeps doing that shit, especially with TLOU 2 and it just doesnt jive with what you are doing as the player.

Yeah they turned Kratos into a fucking bum loser.

Don't forget "fuck bitches" -- the sex minigames in each of the first three games made it clear he wasn't just a badass, but also a smooth motherfucker who took what he wanted and left 'em begging for more.

Can't have that kind of male confidence in a modern work.
