I wonder if they'll even break even with the Wolverine game.

It depends on how fluid and viceral is going to be the combat and gameplay loop for Wolverine as a character. A lot of players are very mechanics focused and the whole ugly Jean Grey aspect of it isn't even going to register with them. Also so long this isn't a "Spiderman 2" scenario where a large chuck of the game isn't played as Wolverine but as some lame girl boss, the game will probably manage a profit.

Ironically the biggest limiting factor to sales is being a PS5 exclusive.

Yeah, that's not how it works.

Spider-Man 2 sold like shit because the first one was woke, it barely managed to break even despite releasing at the recent height of Spider-Man's popularity.

The moment people see Karen Grey, they're tuning out, just like they did with Ghost of Yotei and TLOU2.

They don't even have to be coomers, even the dumbest gamer is capable of pattern recognition, and they can smell the woke a mile away.

Sony ruined what could be their best exclusive in years with all the woke nonsense they will inject in the game.

Can’t wait for the Pride DLC that will give Wolverine a rainbow and trans colored costume.

Spider-Man 2 sold like shit because IT was woke. The first game wasn't woke near as I can tell. Yeah, there might've been some elements, but it wasn't as heavy handed with it as it was with the second game. As someone who's actually played through the lot of the first game, the only woke elements I noticed were in the DLC with Black Cat and how they girl boss'd MJ, and gave her gameplay sections (which was actually retarded). The second game went all in on the woke bullshit once they had an audience captured. They did the same thing with Ghosts of Yotei. They're likely going to do the same thing with Wolverine. Keep a good majority of woke shit out of the first game, then go all in with it in the second. This has been Sony's track record for the last two decades since they moved their headquarters to California. Sony's sick of losing money. Do you honestly think they'd go all in on the first game with a new game with Wolverine knowing that if they did, it would sell like dogshit?

Spiderman 1 was woke in a far more subtle way. The miles morales standalone spidernig dlc was very heavy handed though, and it was enough to the point that people could see the writing on the wall with spiderman/spidernig 2, even before any leaks. And then, the actual thing came out and it was worse than pretty much anyone could have imagined. Spidernig 2 probably wouldn't have done as poorly as it did had miles morales not "primed the pump" so to speak beforehand, and wolverine is going into it with the hypothetical pump even more primed, while superheroes are far less in the zeitgeist than even 2023, which at least had an extremely popular spiderman movie less than 2 years prior to coast off of. Granted, they will bundle it and take the loss to push it over 6 million if they're even the slightest bit worried about not crossing that threshold, as disney can yank all marvel game licenses from sony if one of them sell under that, without even having to pay back the intial fee sony paid for the licenses (as revealed in the insomniac megaleak).

The leaks said roughly one third of the game is Jean and after her part the rest where you play as Wolverine is just berating him for being a hecking toxic white male. You spend ages in India being lectured by a jeet woman too.
The opening act is the only part with a hope of being ok

Re: Spidey 2

Sixteen million across PS5 and PC isn't too bad of a flop, especially taking sequelitis and genre fatigue into account. The lack of DLC for Spidey 2 is really what kneecapped its potential in the long run.

Whether or not that'll affect Wolverine's sales remains to be seen.

The 16 million figure doesn't come from sony, it comes from "alinea analytics", a financial guru (scam) type firm with a specialization in crypto that made an offshoot for video game analytics after a venture into crypto gaming failed and they had nowhere else to put the team. They openly state they have no actual sources, yet for some reason, wikipedia allows them to be cited. The 16 million figure comes from some random guy who knows nothing about video games saying "Yeah, it probably sold at least 200k a month, every month since launch, despite the fact no one talks about it. That seems reasonable."

Ah, one of those chestnuts. I couldn't really guess as to total sales myself, but anecdotally, everyone and their mother was playing the thing in my circles.

You could confidently state on Wikipedia that “a perpetual motion machine has been made!” If a journalist said so, it has 0 epistemological standards beyond sucking corporate journo cock.

Well put. Inasmuch as we’d like the masses to have discernment when it comes to their purchasing decisions, it’s simply the case that the avg. goy will chow down on whatever woke slop you feed them as long as it isn’t ridiculously low quality/boring and/or the propaganda isn’t so hamfisted as to resemble an HR training video (à la DA: Veilguard). Snoys were gleefully gorging themselves on the homogenized feed of “cinematic” 3rd person action-adventure games of the PS4 gen. That Hermen Hulst and Jim Ryan managed to fail at pleasing such a receptive audience is an almost impressive feat of sheer incompetence.

It's more that wikipedia won't accept vgchartz as a source, given they're a bunch of retards making barely more than blind guesses and calling them "estimates", but an outright scam service is ok.

I guarantee you it's not going to be visceral. They'll tone the violence down as much as possible to get a T rating, just like with the Spider-Man games.

They didn't make DLC for it because it sold like shit.

It should be noted that it was predominantly Soyny paypigs that were doing this, and only because they had fuckall else to buy for their overpriced brick.

And as you said, Sony actually managed to alienate even this buckbroken and captive audience with the trash they're peddling.

I still maintain that the Jean Gray in the game is probably the ugliest female character a Western developer has made to date. She looks genuinely horrifying, and it's even more pronounced because the original is meant to be a knockout.

How many units did it sell then? Surely there have to be solid numbers out there.

We already know it's rated M. There are many ways that Sony could fuck up a Wolverine game, but toning down the violence isn't one of them. The Dad of War games wouldn't exist otherwise.
