All this Kojima talk reminds me that I still need to go through the MGS games. And I might as well ask here: A friend who is a huge fan says that I should start with MGS3 but I tend to read that MGS1 is the best place to start and that one seems like the better pick but I am not sure.
Order of release (just read a synopsis of the plot of the NES/MSX MG games if you don't think you can stomach the dated gameplay) is the way to go.

MGS3 might be the peak of the series, but there will be a bunch of context you'll be missing out on that enhances the experience. Also, there is a lot of flavor and plot hidden in the Codec conversations, just a little FYI if you care for it.

MGS3 can be played stand alone, but you won't get anywhere near as much out of it unless you're familiar with Big Boss, what that name actually means, and so on. A lot of the deeper character and story implications will go right over your head which would be quite sad, IMO.

Are there any good exclusive ps5 games that aren't just 3rd person slop? Horizon, last of us, god of war, their marvel queer struggle sessions.

Only good thing modern sony might do is kill modern bungie, that's what you get for not bring wrath of the machine back faggots.

Q1
So if Wolverine needs SIX MILLION COPIES SOLD AT FULL PRICE in order to stop the Marvel license from being yanked then I absolutely see them breaking their "no PS5 games on PC anymore" thing in order to boost sales and pray they can create another sloppy sequel that costs the better half of a billion dollars for a PS6 game.
They effectively have a PC version on standby for 2027 if things go sour. That will be the true test to how well the gsme is selling. If its on PC next year, then it failed on the PS5

Good.
People should be shitting on those gormless faggots, even if they are shitting on them for all the wrong reasons.

Fucking with IP means you have to act like the Eye of Sauron is blazing over your shoulder.

If you want to do it, there are very simple rules to it.

Rule 1: We don't talk about infringing on IP
Rule 2: We DON'T TALK about infringing on IP
Rule 3: Once your project is done, release it on the net so it can propagate (Can't stop the signal)
Rule 4: There is no profit, you do it for the love of the game (literal or metaphorical)

Advertising that you are creating a product based on someone else's IP and charging money for access to it is the easiest office day for any lawyer they have on staff.
Honestly, if they just released the mod for free and just had a Patreon, they could have gotten away with it. So stupid.

There's no subtext beyond Sabertooth being a violent psycho who really loves to torture Logan for reasons unknown.
In the Wolverine: Origin comic it establishes their blood feud started when they were kids because Logan was rich and Sabretooth was a bum, but that entire plot is a 1:1 rip off of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood so I doubt it's regarded as canon. (Also hard to tell because western comics constantly retcon shit.)
PlayStation Blackout Had ‘No Significant Change At All’, Analyst Says
I didn't take part but I'm embarrassed on behalf of anyone who actually thought this was going to achieve something.
There was a point where it looked like Xbox was going to fail, and then they put Asha Sharma in there and she's actually whipping them into shape.
What has that produced though? The Halo remake bombed hard, and their next major release is Fable next year which looks like total shit and has zero hype.

Asha is taking the right approach, but at this point it's like bringing a dustpan and broom to ground zero after the planes hit.

Astrobot, but it's not worth buying a PS5 for, especially since they jacked up the prices.

Before any more Asha glaze, I will kindly remind you that she tried to import a ton of indians with Visas. She didn't fire the incompetent to clean house, she fired them to bring more migrants.

We know from the insomniac leak that wolverine was originally scheduled for 2025, it's $305 million budget, which doesn't account for that year of delay, and a year of delay tacked on at the end can often be way more expensive than a year of normal development.
But Sony are extremely tight on deadlines and budget over spend, didn't you hear.

As a huge fan of the series who started off at one of the worst points (PW), I'd only suggest 3 if you suspect won't like the series. If you think the series looks cool, I'd recommend MGS.
The ideal way to play is to start with MG1, but MG1 is dated as fuck. Kojima recognized that alongside the platform discrepancy locking out most players, so MGS fills you in on the MG1 and 2 well enough.
3 is perfect as a standalone experience, because it's a 60s spy thriller set in the jungle, but you really do miss out on the overall series if you start there.
And most importantly of all, do not play MGS2 before MGS. MGS2 is one of the most unique sequels to any game, period. It deals with some lofty topics and is purposely very meta and dependent on understanding MGS. 3 is the best, but I understand why some people prefer 2. 2 was intended to be the last game; thematically speaking, it succeeds on that level (plot-wise, no).
Also, V is a great game, but a bad MGS game. Fans who started the series at V, which is far too common nowadays, are obnoxious as fuck.

Man HD-DVD should have won that format war
Why? Aside from being completely region free and not backed by Sony (both good things) it was substantially shittier. It's not like Betamax where I think Betamax were actually better quality than VHS but VHS won out.
A friend who is a huge fan says that I should start with MGS3
Yeah, that's bad advice. MGS3 is for the fans. It is made with the assumption that you know the backstory, you know who Big Boss is, you know who Ocelot is, you know what Metal Gear is. There's lots of little in-jokes that reference previous instalments. MGS3 is the worst place to start if you're new to the series, I don't know why they remade it over MGS1
Order of release (just read a synopsis of the plot of the NES/MSX MG games if you don't think you can stomach the dated gameplay) is the way to go
This is also bad advice. You really need to play Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. It really is one of the best 8-bit games ever made
In the Wolverine: Origin comic it establishes their blood feud started when they were kids because Logan was rich and Sabretooth was a bum
Yeah, Dog Logan isn't actually Sabretooth.
but that entire plot is a 1:1 rip off of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood
I hadn't noticed that before. Holy shit, you're right

MGS2 is one of the most unique sequels to any game, period. It deals with some lofty topics and is purposely very meta and dependent on understanding MGS.

MGS2 is a practical joke that repeatedly calls the player a fat, shut-in loser who needs to touch grass.

The thing about MGS is that they're well-made games with really, really stupid stories. But they mostly start off sane, and it's later in the game when Kojima's mind-bending retardation starts to mold the plot into something barking bonkers. You should probably play them in the order they were made just to see how Kojima and his tard-wranglers fought against each other to make something.

Metal Gear Solid 1
Metal Gear Solid 2
Metal Gear Solid 3
Metal Gear Solid 4
Peace Walker
Metal Gear Solid V

Anyone that tells you to start with MG1 or MG2 on the MSX is insane. Kojima himself considered MGS1 a soft reboot and the biggest plot point of the entire MGS series from MG2 isn't even in the actual game and was retconned/revealed in MGS.

Metal Gear Solid has synopsis of the first two games for a reason, but you honestly don't even need to read them because the only thing that matters from that game is explained in MGS itself.

Things in MGS3 don't have significance unless you play MGS1 and MGS2 first, and IMO will actually take away from the games as Kojima never actually planned the story of the series out.

Portable Ops could *technically* be played before Metal Gear Solid 4, but what it "adds" to the story is about as insignificant as MG1 and MG2 at that point so I'd just skip it because it's not worth the hassle. Fun game IMO, but not required playing.

And quite honestly, MGS V is kind of pointless in the grand scheme of the story but at that point you might as well finish it out.

I.....don't remember that at all
A good chunk of the game is Raiden insisting that he's a badass because he played Solid Snake's iconic missions in VR, and Snake repeatedly telling him that playing a video game isn't the same as being him, it makes you kind of lame and gay.

Raiden is you, the player. You play as Raiden because the whiny, dorky Raiden who thinks video games are real is a fitting representative of the average MGS fan. You are denied the ability to play as Snake to drive home that you aren't Snake. You're a whiny twink.

Edit: This also means you didn't play MGS1 as Snake. You were playing as Raiden training as Snake in VR.
