What's interesting is that a few games I see on there are shovelware or average licensed games, yet they could still be worth at least $10-15 because they're not in print anymore. Even some trash games from PS3/360 could be worth a fair bit in resell value.

Honestly, that might be the case but I'm also seeing a lot of good games as well, just the few titles I was able to recognize:

Gears of War
Just Cause
Prince of Persia
Battlefield Bad Company
Mass Effect 1 and 2
Hitman Blood Money
Dead Rising
BulletStorm
Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate
Prototype
The Darkness
Dishonored
SoulCalibur IV and V
Shadow of The Damned
Red Faction Guerrilla
Resident Evil Revelations
Fable 2
FEAR
Skyrim

God knows what else is on those piles on the back.

he could've went to a local game shop or sold them himself on Ebay for better value.
Local game shops would've low-balled him to death to get those games, just so they can mark them up. Better to dump them at GameStop who'll take anything game-related just about, than wasting your time arguing with an auctioneer.

Selling them by himself might've been another option, if he's willing to go down on some prices to be competitive or otherwise he has a long wait ahead of him where buyers are just going to also come up to him and haggle him down in price.

The video game market is dog eat dog.

A collection that size should have been sold piecemeal on eBay, no question. This dude lost a metric fuckton of money doing it this way. Gamestop blasting his antics publicly far and wide is just an added humiliation ritual.

If he's one of those people who are like "I just want these games off from me, I don't care" then yeah I'll side with him. But if he came into this thinking he was going to get a bargain, I'd agree with you.

I follow your logic, but that's not really solving any issues that the consoles had for a long time now. Which of course are self-induced.
Yeah I get you, but I'm not really trying to solve the issue. I'm saying consoles are fucked and the sooner people make the transition to alternatives (or learn to love Bing Bing Wahooing) the better off they'll be.

Unless Sony do an Xbone style heel turn the PS5 will be my last console.

COVID-19 really did fuck up a lot of people’s shit. Our boomer overlords didn’t care that there were repercussions that went well beyond the coof’s effect on them. Making people anti-social and acclimated to sitting on their asses and purchasing digitally out of convenience was not in their peripheral.
On the contrary, it got those damn kids "off my lawn" and out of the parks. And all those digital purchases fueled the "line goes up at all costs" investment strategy most of them cling to. Might even argue it was planned, or at least a happy side effect for them.

Before Max says it was all Trump's fault for this too.

Why the fuck that thing costs 60 fucking dollars. Its legit just another capcom vs snk. It has the same style.
Also on steam it costs 20 dollar less thanks to regional pricing.
Apropos of nothing yersterdat we ditched psn plus and the thing went from suspension mode to permanently turn off mode. My brother wanted to buy control for it but he got legit angry after the latests sony jewery

I'm not being snarky when I ask: how is this different than what Valve did with Steam decades ago? If anything the consoles are very late to the party. I don't think that's right by any means, I've dropped out of all consoles on PS4/switch 1 since there's no games anyway but when I complain about the death of physical mediums (search my post history) other spew bullshit about convenience. This shit could be seen a mile away with the current generation with mainstream models that lacked a disc drive.

RIP in piss, Sony won't be missed

The difference is that Valve basically bruteforced thier way into thier dominance by forcing anyone buying thier games through physical discs to deal with Steam and all of the alternative PC storefronts/services from Games for Windows Live all to way to Epic Games Store and GOG are ethier shit and incompetent or too niche to matter, while the three big console makers introduced digital storefronts in the 7th gen and progressively tried to phase physical out to varrying degrees.

If any of the big three console makers did the same thing Valve had, and did the bare minimum consumer friendly and competent moves compared to what they do now instead of Valve, chances they could have had the same effect as Valve had killing physical games for PC for a time, then with competent DRM and security, it would become impossible to convert bought games into ROMs and if they had games you were actually interested in... good luck getting it the free way in that scenario.

Valve gets away with it because PC competes with piracy. Gabe Newell said that piracy is a service problem, not a pricing problem, but if that was the whole truth PC games would be as expensive as console games.
