What are sales even like in general for kart racers? I get the feeling the genre is similar to mon-raising RPGs in that there's one Nintendo franchise that defines it and is the only one most people will ever care about (Mario Kart/Pokemon) and everything else is only played by hardcore fans and weirdos.

The other top brand-character racers are Dreamworks and Nickelodeon. Dreamworks All-Star sells for $39.99CAD at the moment for me per Steam, and Nickelodeon Kart is $56.99CAD. US prices are probably proportional. But you can pick them (and another game) up for $2.29CAD each for the rest of the day through Fanatical. https://www.fanatical.com/en/pick-and-mix/build-your-own-new-year-bundle This will tell you about all you need to know about the state of the genre, if you can call it that, because there's Mario, and a long-tail of garbage without much redeeming merit. CrossWorlds is literally the closest anyone's gotten yet. Sega should be happy. But they're not.

How much of the marketing budget did that animation for SRC eat?

Having the Denuvo cancer doesn't help. Also, wasn't this Sonic game that had an ad attacking Nintendo in the classic 90s way but without going far enough (aka the safe edgy of today)?

It feels like every game that dont sell 10 million first month is a failure in this industry.
"We must have AAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL the money, or else!!!" - games Industry, probably

What I find more retarded is that these are the same companies that claimed they need to add all of the stupid bullshit (paid DLC, microtransations, Denuvo, etc...) to keep them afloat because "making games expensive" and then their shit flops anyways. It's almost like making a good game first and foremost without the unnecessary bullshit makes you MORE successful.

But like everyone said, SEGA pulled a SEGA and decided to release this shit at the wrong time. They really have no one to blame but themselves, but they never learn from their past mistakes. Let's not forget they pulled the same thing with Superstars releasing it close to the much more anticipated Mario Wonder.

SEGA is like that helmet-wearing retard that you tell to not eat crayons and play with their turds but they do it anyways.

but every once in a while, the helmet-wearing retard would paint. and when he paints, he creates beautiful renderings with a blend of realism and self-expression that would make even the great masters stare in awe. And then, just as quickly as he started painting, he goes right back to eating his crayons and playing with his turds.

Sonic Racing Crossworlds is a disappointment according to the bean counters at Sega. Game sold 1+ million so they fucked up the budget in some way. Either the VAs costed too much or 3rd parties did.

What they seem to be planning for right now is hoping that the game will still be able to rack up at least another million in sales through the content drops they're doing throughout the year.
Gee, want to know how they could have avoided this in the first place? They could have started by maybe not pricing a kart racer at full AAA price with a $90 deluxe edition that won't even let you use all the DLC you paid for until it's released. I'm even willing to bet that Crossworlds might have sold more than they believed, but a majority of people were turned off by the retarded pricing and just went on a key site to buy from third party sellers instead.

The Switch 2 edition launching months later probably didn't help either.

Personally, I think that it's more along the lines of how quite a few companies have kept expanding without proportionally expanding their output. I'm not saying that it has to be an 1:1 scale, but you'd expect Sega to be able to read the room and do something more than just crapping out nostalgic shit and racing games (tbf, Crossworlds isn't entirely their fault, but it easily could have been better)

Sonic Mania did it so much better with the classic Sonic parody adds. That was more generalized attacks at AAA gaming and general Sonic meme jokes. It’s not the 90s, Sega and Nintendo fans have a lot of overlap. Conditioned by Sega themselves as far back as the GameCube and GBA era where Sonic advanced was the first Sonic game on a Nintendo platform and SA2 Battle is the most famous version of that game

Next episode: Tangle and Whisper finally get official and canon voices apparently.
Good Thing I Mostly Care About the Classic Sonic Stuff. So, I don't really care about this too much. Though, This does paint a potential bleak picture for the mainline games going forward. But, Who knows maybe a monkeys paw will happen where if Sonic Team is going to use these IDW characters there going to go into a different direction with these characters. So, that they're really only the same character in name only.

good fucking God, Flynn must be holding SEGA/Iizuka at gunpoint to include his dyke OCs in so much goddamn media.
It's so fucking over... They're gonna be pushing these cunts for the next six games and it's going to be insufferable.

The comics were a fucking mistake.
Meanwhile, I'm just sitting here wondering what would even be the best way to introduce them to anyone who doesn't read IDW, assuming they put them in a non-spinoff game in a major capacity.

They'll have to, if someone at SEGA is remotely smart. Doing the full IDW introduction means they'll have to talk about the IDW OCs, which are usually terrible (or were made terrible). See below.

"So, there's this comic where in the second arc a zombie outbreak plague begins that stretched for a year (but worry not, it's totally not one even though we use the same tropes of one!) where many characters die- sorry, "die" a stupid death for shock value over, over and over, like that time Cream saw her mom being ganged up by zombies. Did I tell you that these zombies are indestructible? And that Shadow pounced one with his bare hands and got infected while screaming like a little girl? Or how Charmy got infected like a moron and killed his friends because we needed drama? Oh, and that Eggman's antidote in case of being infected is "don't get touched lol" since there's no cure? And that the OCs keep crying while everyone else shrug it off? And that in the end everything is solved and nothing in that dragged mess mattered? Or how many of the OCs are evil, angsty, or women because there are too many guys in the franchise (which surely the boys will love that, right??)? Or how there's a pair of knock-offs of Sonic and Tails who are a joke made by an evil scientist Mengele playtypus who tortures them for fun? Or that snowflake kid that was almost introduced as a they/them thing before SEGA made me cut it off? Or many episodes with women talking and going to camping while nothing happens?
As for the couple, they used to be separate characters, but later they got repurposed as a totally-not lesbian couple because screw chuds, and our fans wanted more lesbian representation in an all-ages comic, even if we have to degrade existing characters to do so!

Wait, why are you running away?"
