So at most we have four major characters introduced, with two barely at the end. This is not a problem in and of itself, but again the comic assumes you know these characters. If I gave my little cousin this comic, would he have reason to care about these guys?
Yeah, as a companion piece to the games, it fails at that, as it assumes you know these characters, with no explanation given.
(“Can Love Hammer It Out” as if there’s any romance in this comic)
Yep, nothing at all. Due to the comic mandates, relationships between characters range between non-existent to teasing, as the main cast can't have new relationships or interact with people further than what they do in games, and the OCs DO interact with each other... Unfortunately, it's usually between ugly lesbians, or an abusive older sister + younger brother stand-ins.
I think later, one issue features a city from Sonic Unleashed, but it’s dead and no humans are in sight. If you’ve played Unleashed you’d get the reference, but if you haven’t then all you see is sonic running through a weirdly dead city.
Since there can only be what's in games, the world effectively has no central government, or government of any kind, or any authority figure, nada. That's why the bad guys are pretty much plot-devices (even GUN is seemingly gone as they haven't reappeared so far and the comic won't bother to try anything with them)*. I also like how the no-name characters are always generic cowards, incompetents, or both at once.
*This also has the funny result of a bad guy brutalizing an OC, and then immediately jobbing against Sonic because the former lacked plot armor, while the latter has a "can't be defeated" clause for the comics.
