I don't have a ps5 or xbox so I last minute preordered the switch version of sonicXshadow generations. Should be ok hopefully unless they incompetently bloated everything to hell. It's coming today but I don't know ifI'll get around to playing it. Saw a friend play through almost all the shadow thing on a screenshare when the digital one came out a few nights ago and wish it was kind of longer or the opening recap flashback thing was actually animated instead of a slideshow using 3d models where shadow's arms are awkwardly positioned like a gmod ragdoll at the end. I get it though budget/trying to go for anime episode recap kind of vibe.
This makes me wonder, though. Kids that get into sonic these days, some of them are gonna have this as their first game, which is going to be really weird if they port/remake the adventure games in a non buggy mess way somewhere down the road. HOPEFULLY WITHOUT REDUBS OR FLYNN REWRITES THIS TIME FOR ONCE PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

Haven't seen anything about the retarded mephiles time eater splinter thing being actualy made canon in the script and my friend didn't screenshare the sonic half so I think it's just not in there though the dialogue changes are seemingly incredibly pointless and/or weirdly worded(retarded in the case of removal of mentions of fat, buddy, or amy's comedic innocent incel thing though)

Tails doll was years before ben drowned, and there were a few others but the tails doll one is the "comically shitty one that got super popular" genre but it's remembered kinda fondly probably because you can tell it was made by some kid that got spooked by the comic relief character from sonic R.

EDIT: Just got the game in the mail, it didn't include a small hardback book like the advertisement showed and I feel gypped. it says It's included on the box but I guess that it's a little pamphlet where the manual would normally be on a game would be they rarely use the space for despite including it. Shameful.

EDITX2: Youtube recommended me a weirdly relevant one of this guy's videos just now.

So the twist is confirmed to still be"it was a robot eggman made the whole time" but it now just spells it out in a wordier way and tells whats being shown instead of just showing literally the aftermath of colors while he just says he found the primordial form of it before making a robot out of it.

lmao anyways they also censored Eggman calling himself crazy, another tick on the "post 2020 remaster english version script change trend" bracket.

You may also notice by the thumbnail the "you got this sonic" people were hyping up as something that was going to be vastly improved upon is now "on your feet." Something weirdly wrong feeling considering shadow has the same general skillset as sonic. The "you got this sonic" line wasn't the issue people had with shadow, that phrase was used as a meme people used to summarize how his friends just stood there and did nothing to help him at the finale of generations for no fucking reason. Something which has not changed. The voice direction in the revised version though feels kinda off in general though.

Well, Sega has an autistic love for celebrating anniversaries to the point where it's almost detrimental. Speaking of which, next month would be the 19th anniversary of Shadow the Hedgehog.

See it'd actually have been funny if that's how that came out. Most of the rewrites seem to be just either over explaining what's already being shown on screen or removal of words that these modern rewriters they keep hiring could "possibly be offensive to someone" like crazy, flirting, fat, snatched, buddy, whatever. You could literally replace Ian with any other clout poisoned "localizer" at this point with how this script rewrite came out.

I've seen the crowd that keeps praising it treating it like these rewrites actually "added a plot that wasn't there before" (it didn't it just worded the same thing differently) now acting like the gameplay and stages were severely changed and improved as well as an extra point. I watched a friend play through this thing before I got it it's literally just the same as before. There's no new content on the sonic side of things as far as I've seen aside from the english only rewrites.

Flynn's at his best with character work (see: Frontiers) and not editing existing games or comics. It's why Shadow Generations has decent story and character writing and base Generations comes off as clunky.

There's some things That still seem weirdly written or out of character in the shadow story like the "ugly prototype" getting replaced with 'tortured soul" thing in only the english release. It's still ugly prototype in the non english language versions which tells me Ian wasn't the only writer on shadow's story. I kind of already said this but the rewrites Ian did to the main Generations plot have the same stink about them as the JP only rewrite of Frontiers, which is cosmically funny considering Ian was supposedly the main writer on Frontiers for the original English version. Wouldn't be surprised if SEGA higher ups are behind this in some form, but considering the behavior of the other US writers and him on social media, yeah, I don't know.

From what I saw of the show , she was basically written like a mix of the current amy thing where they try to showcase her as capable but still have her original writing style of "sonic's kind of sometimes annoying friend who also wants to be/considers herself his GF despite him saying other wise"

Boom was supposed to be a tie in TV show to a new spinoff "alternate universe reboot timeline" series of games that ended up just not even being that when they came out. The Wii U game was a fucking disaster the 3DS game was mid, and then the sequel to the 3ds one was kind of better received but it was too late, sold like ass. The damage was done, and they were more or less at that point just "sonic games int hat weird artstyle that 2 out of 3 times were shittier than most". it's kind of wild because they clearly put a lot of hope and hype behind boom but the naughty do ER I MEAN RED BUTTON guys just completely failed to fucking perform.


The Sonic Boom show generally has that same vibe the DKC show has of "this is the kind of stupid shit characters would get up to between games." Even has them living on some nondescript island that's kind of like the stuff from the games but not exactly an island they may or may not live on from the games. With boom that vibe is really helped by the fact the characters are voiced by the game VAs and not attempted sound alikes like what happened with netflix sonic and sonic X back in the day. You know, BEFORE they replaced the adventure era voice actors with the sonic X english dub ones when Bristow died. Sonic X technically doesn't count because it's a loose adaptation of the games and not canonical events of the games, while the netflix sonic and sonic boom are supposed to be like spinoffs that happen in the universe of the games.
 
I guess they're trying to push the Biolizard connection with Shadow because they are technically family and Shadow might have a bit of empathy for the thing that's literally only alive because of the huge tank on its back. Why it's only in the localized version of the game is another question entirely.

The problem with that is Shadow didn't know about the Biolizard till the end of adventure 2, and technically the mid point of the Dark story when they found out the actual files on project shadow on the databases didn't match shadow's description.

at this rate I'd wager given how the English versions of Frontiers and the Generations rewrite that we'll be seeing a new "Region-based" continuity split in all but name in the near where the English version of things ends up being way too different compared to most other versions script wise and to some extent the other promotional matieral like the YouTube stuff where the only thing different is that people arn't going to be smart enough or willing enough to check the other versions to notice it and assume it's always like that on Day 1 of it's release.

That was what it is in the non english versions so... maybe. However this would also mean the removal of amy's crush on sonic was tied solely to SEGA intervention as that is also in every non english version.

Can't remember if brought this up but this shit is real. He's not accurately colored which upsets me but Lego's brown is apperently really fucking brittle these days so maybe that's why he's orange?
No excuse to not use the teal for the tubes though.
I think this is the only merch we've gotten of this guy and I guess it makes sense given the stinky lizard is the twist final boss of SA2. It's been 2 decades though and he's shown up a decade ago as a boss int he version of generations that isn't getting a remake so it's ok now or whatever. Kinda want it even if Sonic being the post 06 super sonic is wrong feeling when paired with the fucking BIOLIZARD.

My favorite bit of demented nightmare shit around complaining about everything is how if you talk about finding the unnecessary rewirites and censorship kind of funny a ton of places online in any capacity it spirals instantly into people showing up and going UUUH RIGHT WINGER/TRANSPHOBE GRIFTER?!?" because the blizzard breast milk guy talked about something people were already talking about on twitter. Shit was kind of mentioned a bit earlier but like I didn't realize that that whole narrative solely fucking is using that one guy bringing shit up to smear everyone as crazy right wing people.

Clearly the solution is we need to take away his phone and put him in a room with as much refrigerated breast milk as we can to keep him distracted long enough for things people notice like dialogue changes when playing video game ports to lose relevance.
