Ironically the only time the characters were fucky in japanese was the JP version of frontiers where they tried making eggman edgy and resentful of his own ai assistant kid among other weird things. Also agree about the OG generations writing not being too bad. It's just barebones if anything. t's so weird seeing media journos AND people talking about the game parroting the same "ah yes this fixes the cringy 2010s writing and adds actual plot!". I don't see any extra "plot" being added. The plot is literally the same from all the cutscenes that have been revealed or leaked, it's SOLELY dialogue between characters that got altered or censored because that's literally all the original game has aside from the basic plot of time travel through old stages. If anything the dialogue has been made longer and less engaging/properly characterized and that's it. Shit makes no sense.I Saw this today and this is just sad. I know Pontac and Graff's writing in the series was controversial to say the least but I thought their in writing in Generations was Okay. Sure, It was nothing Great and There was hardly a story. But, did it really need to be rewritten? It'll be Interesting to see the japanese version and see if that one stays largely intact. Since, the characters in Japanese have been pretty consistent even in the 2010's.
if they wanted to reference it being the chemical plant from west side island they should be like "huh... this chemical plant seems familiar, it kind of looks almost identical like one we saw back on west side island but..." instead of "THIS IS DEFINITELY THE CHEMICAL PLANT"
Sonic reacting the way he does to amy makes no fucking sense in the new dialogue. She literally just goes "thanks for helping me, I'll be sure to return the favor later" implying she's going to save him if he's in trouble. The original she makes a statment about how she's "able to flirt with him again". This is another weird entry in the growing trend of ports omitting romantic implications in dialogue between characters, even if it's one sided advances played for a gag. Actually I think sega america was the first one to pull this shit, the persona 5 deluxe version's english version that came out BEFORE corona replaced the scene where ryuji gets basically semi-abducted by gay guys who were hitting on him. They changed it to some dumb shit that makes no sense involving him being taken to a drag show and is cross dressing or some shit instead of screaming for help on the phone as he gets shown around town by some weirdo gay dudes he's not into. Usually it's the gay implications stay though and the hetero ones are the ones that get censored this way in these deluxe versions and ports, though.
