The obliviousness of the Japanese will never cease to amaze me, it's been shown time and time again the western portion of a fanbase for something is huge and yet they ignore it, then get mad when westerns pirate their shit because that's their only option to get it or get mad when it doesn't sell over there
And then when they DO choose interact with westerners it's californians that openly hate them and want to subvert their culture.

Is the Sonic-DC collaboration for Batman Day just that short 15sec animation of Shadow murdering someone while dressed as Batman? Seems to be as much.

You just know someone's working on a Generations mod for that outfit right now, if it hasn't been published by now.

The Japanese are mad at screenshots and fan translations of the Shadow manga, so much that CoroCoro posted a statement. (Archive):

Translation via this post (A):

The replies to it are a mix of complaining that there's no international releases, complaining about piracy and quoting Gabe Newell.

Japan may have stricter laws about copyright but it's retarded nobody over there saw this coming. Sonic's popularity exists primarily overseas, not to mention it being known for having one of the most autistic fanbases.

I know it's been a few days since this controversy, but this guy made a video that made me a bit MATI
>NOOOOOOO YOU CANT HECCIN PIRATE MANGA THAT YOU CANT UNDERSTAND, THINK ABOUT THE POOR MANGAKA WHO WAS LIKELY COMISSIONED TO MAKE IT BY SEGA ANYWAY, YOU’RE JUST A HECCIN CHILD!

I'm just remembering wen i was a kid/early teenager back in the 2000s before they officially started releasing them in the US people were uploading unofficial translations of the megaman exe and Legend of zelda mangas. The response to finding out people were interested back in the day wasn't takedowns and calling fans horrible pirates, it was literally just officially importing them in english. Really wish that level of sanity returned sometime.

Also every fucking youtube gaming channel basically turning into clickbait journos without being forced to by higher ups fucking pisses me the hell off though I already pointed that out in other threads the last like what 6 or 7 years?

Maybe if they just kill every single character except for Cheese, that will finally fix this damn story. The series can be about raising Chao in a broken world.
I can envision him giving an existential speech and like all the dialogue is subtitled because the actual audio is just the weird baby goblin thing noises the chao make. He thinks his brown friend the only showed up in heroes and never again is still alive and then he finds his desecrated corpse in a scorched improperly sealed bunker.

but they already made Mother 3 (and made unofficial translation to english too)

speaking of chao, Omochao did nothing wrong

Omochao was nowhere near this obnoxious. I liked how if he annoyed you in SA2 you could just grab him and chuck him off a cliff while he complained about it. They don't put opt outs for tutorials tuff like that in games anymore these days and even fucking sonic generations turned omochao into an unkillable tutorial voiceover instead of an easy to opt out of hint npc you could beat up.

The series ends with Cheese on a beach, crying. The camera pans out, and we see a giant broken Omochoa sticking out of the ocean.

"You blew them up! You blew them all up you bastards!"

Today is Sonic CD's 31st birthday.

I know reactions on its gameplay can be mixed, but visually it's core Sonic to me outside 1 and Chaotix - surpassed only by Mania successfully combining that "arcade art deco"/psychedelic style with the more muted one seen in 2 and 3K. I really wish that "arcade art deco" survived on more than it had to really define Sonic's world's look the way you know how Mario's world is supposed to be in visual terms.

I missed it turned 31 this year, missed my chance to make something for the 30th last year (and every other big thing) shit's bothering me with how fucking fast time is going and how nothings lined up 8 years for me but that's another story.

The "divisive" nature of sonic cd felt astroturfed from the last decade or so as did the shit with 3d blast. Both are games that play solidly but don't play exactly like sonic games "run to the end" method (or in 3d blast's case they go BUT IT'S NOT ACTUAL 3D AAAUGH HORRIBLE GAME RUINED FOREVER).

CD it feels weirder with because they did that special edition over a decade back (that doesn't feel like a decade) that was one of the most hyped things ever in terms of video game port rereleases. It getting gimped in origins and framed like something new till people found out you could break the game and access the menus of the special edition fucking added to the hatred of that collection. If I see aother YT video framing CD as a "hidden/flawed masterpiece" or "SUPER OBSCURE SONIC GAME / FORGOTTEN SONIC GAME" I'm gonna fucking commit HUEH

CD was an interesting game to finally play. It almost feels like they were trying to make an open world (zone) game before that was a realized concept. They made 4 different versions of each act.
It's too bad the game is held back so much by its design flaws. Not being able to easily time travel without finding a "time machine area" and not having a map, and not being able to warp around the zones makes it too frustrating to want to explore the game. You just go to the past, destroy that stupid generator, and get the fuck out.

I weirdly never had any issue with the time mechanic other than having frustration in a way that was clearly an intentional gameplay difficulty mechanic. You can also beat the game without doing the time travel shit but it ends faster that way and you have to fight in the cool looking but probably shit encrusted future fortress instead of the cool colorful but unfittingly peaceful music future fortress at the end. I remember when I first played as a kid I didn't know about the good future stuff so both on the old PC port and the gems collection port i'd just blaze through the game and assumed for a bit that the stardust speedway in the end credits was some other area they removed from the game. Also the end happening abruptly confused me the first time because the US version just uses the same boss theme for every boss instead of having a designated final boss theme like the JP one does with the fifth element opera sounding music. Seriously we were fucking robbed there shit pissed me off when I found out about that back in the day.

What's really interesting about CD's time mechanics is how the OST works. Stardust speedway specifically. You can tell the way the tracks are composed that the JP version of the bad future theme was made with the actual metal sonic boss fight in mind, and since then it's kind of become one of the main recurring themes that plays when he shows up in stuff after they started using him more again.
The intro loop wasn't used in the game but it's been used in various uploads of the OST over the years. Kinda wish some of the variants where it's metal sonic's theme eased into it like this.

So you'd think the bad future theme would be the one they had in mind for the race theme in the US version too, right? HAHA, WRONG.
It's more or less the same theme as the US bad future, but a lot more hype and fast paced/filled with electric noises.
Both of these are perfect boss themes, but in the original release from what I remember they only played depending on what future you got which led to the US one having a more fitting OST for the race if you got the good future. The special edition port changed things so it always plays the bad future theme when fighting metal sonic I think? been a while since I looked at this.

I might've rambled about this a few years back but I forget and I'm too lazy/tired to check again.... again.
Also I like how the psp sonic games tried turning the concept of having to race an NPC through a level into a full on game as mildly janky as those rivals games were.

You can turn Omochao off in the settings, although I suppose that’s not as soulful
I know, I had him off the whole time I played generations back when it came out lmao. Having an "off" option isn't he same as having a guy you can actively completely ignore talking to or try to shut up if he starts talking.

EDIT: I looked up "kill omochao" to see what came up while half awake just now and the first result s a fifteen year old youtube upload.
