Sonic Dream Team is getting another update, this time to add moves such as the Stomp, Slide, and a glide that isn’t 06 level bad to the game.

You can still buy Sonic the Fighters on Xbox One/Series for $5. It's a novelty. Sonic characters rendered in 3D for the first time beating the rings out of each other to ride on a one seated rocket to defeat Dr. Eggman. I love the squash and stretch reactions from hits. Being able to literally knock the rings out of Sonic is funny as hell. It's more button mashing than a legitimate fighting game. Just spam punch and you win.

 
I didn't realize Sonic the Fighters was a legit fighting game, and has an active player base. It doesn't even have Shadow in it, he was too busy not existing yet.

It's got Virtua Fighter / FIghting Vipers Mechanics. It's made by the same team (AM2) that made those. It originally came out of a joke that a programmer added Sonic into Fighting Vipers just for shits and giggles. Yu Suzuki showed the result to Hiroshi Kataoka, who then showed it to Yuji Naka, who in turn loved the idea and approved of it being developed further, hence Sonic the Fighters

P.S. everyone should play Fighting Vipers. It's a jacked-up Virtua Fighter with armor mechanics and wall shenanigans.

And then you should play Fighters Megamix because it's the greatest 3d Saturn fighter of all time. it even has Bark and Bean from Sonic The Fighters

Sega saturn and pc engine got to be the best hidden gems consoles.
 
StF is fun and probably has some depth, but I just spam Fang's gun lol. I like the aesthetics of it a lot.

Nostalgia, an admittedly good cute design, and I suspect a lot of kids of the time picking up late to the tamagotchi craze from earlier in the decade complete with carrying one around in the VMU.
