I feel like sonic fans don't seem to understand i'm pretty sure most people like sonic more for the character( or characters) than the games
especially feels more evident with all of the recent pushes for tv shows and the movie

This is a wordy pretentious ass post but SA2 is unironically a great game. We're in the "pretentious video game essayist youtube "DEFENDS" iconic "uNDERRATED" sonic game!!!" Phase of sonic internet content again. They're gonna flip on opinions again the next 5 years and the next phase will probably be 10 hour long video essays instead of 5 hour ones.

Dreamcast's failure was tied to a shitload of stuff that had fuckall to do with sonic and it's been common knowledge for years that sonic only really started truly declining once sega got out of the console market and became partly reliant on multiplatform ports of old games. Youtube guys are doing that thing again where they call out other youtube people for having the "old bad youtube reviewer opinion" again because reddit clout hell internet pervades all regardless of the facts.
EDIT: It's also peeving me a bit the guy is using an SA1 teaser/intro FMV image while talking about SA2.

Seriously Mario and sonic have basically the same situation of people liking the characters more than the specific game shit which is why both of them have so many spinoff titles that get into weird shit. Games are fun, characters are solid goofy guys, par for the course with quality platformers.

Seriously Mario and sonic have basically the same situation of people liking the characters more than the specific game shit which is why both of them have so many spinoff titles that get into weird shit. Games are fun, characters are solid goofy guys, par for the course with quality platformers.

I don't think Mario as a character at all carries his bad games, which is why very few will go to bat for Lost Levels, whereas Sonic fans will cope any Sonic game into an underrated classic.

It was kinda a psyop but less to convince the public adventure was bad but more like get an "in" with games journos who spewed the "sonic always had a rough transition to 3d... actually maybe the sonic games werent even ever really good at all because the 90s were bad!" type stuff. It was a really blatantly transparent one too I remember a lot of people int he comments section of the vids and replies to the vids pointed out. Usually it'd showcase a weird/funny glitch from one of the shitty ports or have the youtube guy suddenly blatantly intentionally playing poorly to stretch out gameplay time journo style.Shit was a bit more genuine back then those years before everyone talking about subjects online acted like clouthirsty skinwalkers.

Lost levels isn't bad, it's literally just an extension/harder version of the first super mario bros. You go into it without playing 1 beforehand you're gonna have a fucking bad time.

3d blast wasn't a bad game, just didn't play like the mainline games. it's closer to the arcade game "flicky" the birds from sonic are a reference to but in an isometric environment you explore. It wasn't 3d either unless you count SMRPG graphics as 3d. There's also an unofficially released official remaster by one of the main guys that worked on it that re-enables stuff that got cut from the final release which is really neat.

Mario and sonic both have had and keep having movie and TV show deals on and off though there was a large drought period for Mario (save for reruns of the DiC show) and Sonic only had Sonic X which everyone hated the Chris kid from. These last few years though both are firing up back into the external media thing with both of them getting movies and TV (streaming) series again.

Yes that is literally the point of the game. That was a conscious decision, not a mistake. Ok so in the original Japanese Famicom mario 2, in a few stages instead of a fake bowser that's a goomba or a koopatroopa after he dies showing up you had a "new character" that was a pallete swapped blue and brown bowser. he's literally just named "bowser's brother" it's the funniest shit. Technically bowser is "Koopa" in japan but since we're speaking english here it's Bowser. I completely forgot about the dudes existence for a while till I somehow ended up getting reminded of him last year. Normal colored bowser shows up in the spots he was in the super mario all stars lost levels version of the game.

He did for one whole game but then the brother kinda got retconned out of existence after he wasn't in the SNES port of the one game he showed up in. There's a trivia thing in one of the smash bros games that says that the blue bowser is like that because of the "fake bowser" from the nes games but the actual fake bowsers weren't blue, it's basically a write-off for those that remember his brother kinda.
