That reminds me, should I go ahead and purchase the original generations since it's probably gonna get scrubbed from Steam after the remaster drops?

To be fair, Sonic fans were always flip-floppy. You have people to this day that say Sonic 4 and Sonic 06 are good games.

2010's Sonic 'hate' wasn't manufactured in a vacuum - the Sonic brand was on par with Bubsy at the end of the 2000's after Shadow, 2006, and Unleashed.

Entering the new decade - Lost World, a Sonic game that had a run button followed by the disaster that was Boom, only further cemented it. Generations and Colours were seen as flashes in the pan by the mainstream.

A trend I've seen with the new guard of zoomer Sonictubers is that everything is uncritically viewed with rose-tinted glasses by them. You'd think that having grown up with those same games they would know why the Sonic brand was seen as a laughing stock.
 
Sonic fans constantly shifting opinions is always a sight to see, I've seen people now saying sonic mania is a bad game in order to defend superstars
or acting like unleashed didn't have any flaws or ignoring that sonic colors is the game that pretty much started the trend of sonic stories going "hahaha so funni"

I will die on the hill that sonic games aren't as bad as youtubers say but I also won't exactly say I think many of them are amazing either
Shadow the hedgehog is a decent to okay game in my eyes despite it's problems but I don't think it's great either and I feel that goes for most sonic games with the exception of 2, 3&knuckles, adventure 2, and mania in my eyes

I'll second this. The worst Sonic game is infinitely better than any actually "bad" game out there, the flaws just make the franchise an easy target for anyone with an axe to grind.

i adore guys like this, not because i agree with them and find it cathartic they ebinly destroy arin hanson and ign - i have this forum for that - but instead because their sperging is so entertaining. exoparadigmgamer is another example of this, where he thinks that people's hatred of sa2 treasure hunting is hypocritical or poorly founded because "erm really it aint so bad once youve played it 50 times"

Yeah, the worst ones are like 4/10s, stuff like Sonic Labyrinth. None of it is unplayable trash.

Which is really not that bad of a game once you realize that you don't have to ALWAYS be spinning around like an idiot.

You can just walk almost all of it and you'd still have time left on the timer. You're only tough parts might be the bosses but even then it's just patience and pattern recognition at that point.
 
I wish for another show in the vein of the Sonic Boom one. Was such a funny shitpost of a show that made fun of things in sonicsphere and at times doing whatever it wanted.
The episode where they heavily implied Chris Chan will always be my favorite episode in any Sonic Show.

The only genuinely bad sonic game I've ever played was 06 and that was the story shit and the bugged the fuck out gameplay with half finished levels. I've seen opinions on 06 shift though between "worst game ever" and "oh no it's not bad just unfinished shadow and heroes and adventure are worse!" from youtube review people that talk about sonic shit. It's like sonic games are just constantly in a state of being treated as either secretly incredible or the worst thing ever on and off for the last decade and a half. You don't see this shit with the mario side of things unless you delve into the rpg spinoffs. Zelda however, is PLAGUED by the same shit as what goes down with sonic games but nobody ever seems to take note of it. Majora's mask, windwaker, and the DS zeldas are on a constant sliding shuffle of opinion every few years ever since they came out.

I can't believe it's been like 8 years now since this thing occurred but then again the political screaming hyper-insanity and "unable to get into any fucking industry unless you were wither there before 2016 or are just coming out of college from wealthy family post 2020s" probably has something to do with that. Surprised they managed to pull off what basically amounts to an answer to "what the fuck are video game characters even doing between games?"
Like if this thing wasn't stuck with the artstyle of the failed reboot/spinoff universe games it was supposed to be a tie in with it'd change nothing aside from the blue arms joke in the episode that referenced Chris chan/richard kuta/every other notable insane internet sonic fan the last 2 decades.

This show and the sonic anime movie from back in the day are like the only 2 pieces of sonic media that actually manage to capture sonic's rude kinda a dick attitude he's meant to have. Like Sonic's definitely not wario tier of funny video game asshole but if you look at his characterization before sonic heroes in the games it's like night and fucking day. This is a character who's default face in the sprites was a mildly annoyed looking expression. A guy who will literally LEAVE in sonic cd if you go take a piss break that takes more than a few minutes without hitting the pause button beforehand. You think a guy like that is gonna tolerate speech policing or go on a speech about the real super power of friendship you are out of your damn mind.

I just didn't give it much if a chance tbh. If I had it as a kid as one of my few games then I'd probably have learned to like it well enough.
